Showed as Decent Challenge to me on 75 DRG. Saw him walking around right outside the Campaign Battle area. I wonder what made him so Impossible to Gauge after the war, seems like any other mob in the past.
Also, Sneak/Invis seems to work around Ruby in the past as he did not see me standing in front of him. Must have gotten some better senses as time goes on since he is true sight in Qulun :P
Just fought this guy for my rdm testimony. Easily pulled him out and got him slept and dispelled. Tried thunder II and stone III only did between 250 and 290 respectively. Figured I'd try aero III. hit for around 350 with wind staff and elemental reasonably close to capping. kept him slept and silenced, and kept myself refreshed and stoneskined. It had a little over half HP left so decided to chainspell aero III. was dead on the 6th cast. it got lucky and slept me once and at the end it hit me for a critical of about 256. but otherwise very easily soloable. got my rdm test and a ruby off it. was hoping for water IV as well but oh well
I recently was really bored and decided to go down there where this NM spawns and just play around with some of the mobs as 75blm/rdm. I buffed and decided to try to kill this for the fun of it, besides, the zone is really close.
The first two times I tried to pull the monster, it automatically linked others, and I was forced to zone. The second time I didn't heal outside and just zoned right back in-to realize NMs(even in the new patch), do not respawn, they just walk back like they used to. So I zoned and this next time I pulled, and linked them all, and just zoned. I came right back in and fought it.
The fight was really easy. I just kept it silenced, which is important because it will chainspell you, and bound/gravity. It has a TON of HP even nuking with 75 Blm I had to heal up while I slept it to get some MP back. Remember that this NM can be slept, and it will last a minute or two if your enfeebling skill is decently high or capped. Dropped Rubies each time-90k on my server. GL killing!!!
Just to claify, This mob does have True Sight, and yes Sneak has nothing to do with it, but thats because the Mob AGGROS to Sight, so yeah sneak wouldnt stop it seeing through invis, there are some True Sound Mobs, which are impossible to get by almost, because even running behind them doesnt help ;) happy huntin everyone :D
Solo'd this guy earlier today as a 68BLM. A guy in my LS was telling me there was no way this could be done without subbing RDM for Dispel...well, he was wrong.
Zoned into Qulun Dome and saw him standing at the Mute, along with 2 Darksteel Quadavs. Used Sleepga II ( to kill the Ruby's Blink ) and woke the other two Quadavs using Stone and Water. When they were both on me I simply zoned out, leaving them to disappear. Walked back in, and there's my Ruby, all by his lonesome, still snoozing.
I proceeded to sleep/nuke him, alternating Sleep II and Thunder III and making sure I kept Stoneskin and Blink up at all times. He definitely had Shell IV up, as about half of my nukes were resisted. He also resisted my Sleep twice, which was a little scary. Whenever he would resist I would simply throw Sleepga II and he would resume napping. I made doubly sure to sleep him during Chainspell, and I ended up only taking 146 damage the whole fight, and that was from a lucky hit from his degen.
When he fell, I received 160exp, 95g and nothing else. All in all, the fight took probably about 20 minutes total, and I was never in any danger. Dispel would have been nice, for sure, but it is in no way necessary to win the fight. In fact, I think Erase came in much more handy, as I was able to remove Bio III and Dia II.
me BLM61/WHM30, and a friend RDM70/BLM35, were fightin this guy a bunch today, trying to get RDM test so friend could fight Maat again(like the 20'th test he has gone through -.-;) fairly easy fight, like said previously, Blink and Stoneskin are a must, RDM just kept it asleep, and i used Burst everytime it was ready and i had mp. Fights were about 5 minutes long apiece, all we got was exp, and a beastman's seal i think, no test ;-;. but the fight was easy and fun.
After getting pounded into the floor by maat I decided I need practice... so I went and solo this guy as a RDM69/BLM34... it's really not very hard to do... Here's what I did...
1. Blink and Stoneskin (Absolute must) 2. watch for an opportunity to pull him out of the room somehow... aspir is fun because you gets ome mp back 3. move into the tunnel and sleep him 4. refresh 5. dispel like crazy 6. make aure your buffs are back up 7. Nuke (Aero III for me) and sleep 8. repeat as necessary
takes about 15 minutes to kill.. ugh... but most of the time I do not have to convert... it's just time consuming. I imaging if I was fighting maat, once I got hit down to about 1/2 hp. sleep, convert, pop some potions, rebuff, then chainspell nuke the hell out of him... it is definitely good practice... I even tried it on the Darksteel Quads.. ^_^
soloed as a lvl 66rdm/blm. he really isn't that hard...Was actually pretty good pratice for me. Now i kinda know how maat will act. Hopefully i will have flawless sleeping on maat like i did this guy. Dropped Shell IV (don't have to buy it now :D) My stone III dmg was doing about 292 solid hits, 174 resisted (only twice) and two criticals for 329. gotta love being an elvaan. Wish me luck on maat guys...if the maat fight goes the same way this fight went, it will be a race against time.
I don't think this guy drops Water IV. Alla is the only site I know that says he does. I've personally only seen shell IV drop. Same for several freinds that have farmed him for rubies.
I'm not thinking he does. I have killed him about 15 times over the weekend farming for ruby and drops were 7 -rubys 2 -shell IV (hehe saved me from having to buy it) 4 -RDM test 1 -KS I go to ffxi.cannotlinkto for my drop info and its not listed. Plan to continue till i have a stack of ruby to sell, first ever on ah XD, so i'm probably going to end up killing him about 15 more times.
Just killed one 10 min ago. Well, I went on a skillup/coffer party to level up my GS. So when we got there( 9 persons 54-66, I was the highest Drk 66) it was full the 4-door room. So a friend of mine (]Sirgustav, lvl 62 Drk) decided to camp at the Qulun Dome. So I zone first and this guy comes by me. I check him and go "Holy Moly a High level Quad NM!" So, we decided to engage it. Oh....my...god...this guy is serious trouble if you dont silence him, and since he´s a mage type AND a NM it resists it a lot. So there i was casting silence after silence (rdm sub). My friend Gustav died when it was 3/4 of hp but all else were doing ok. At 1/4 of health it spams Cure 4 so be careful, finished it with a Crosss Reaper hitting for 550 =)
It's an NM, they dont really obey the typical rules of mobs. =P Its like a lvl 9 rabbit owning a lvl 12 monk. Or a lvl 55 beetle owning a party of 65's. Its just not fair T.T
these are easy beat them easily at lvl 67 rdm they are even 30X more easy at 70. use stone III untill 70 when u can use aero on it because water III will do bad damage considered hes based on water. if stone III starts getting resisted a lot just switch to thunder II tho it will take a lot longer to kill him with thunder II. after every nuke you should aspir if your subbing blm it speeds the kill VERY quickly and u pretty much dont have to rest. people who say this is good practice for maat are actually kind of wrong maat is totally different from ruby u have to be quick with maat with ruby u have all the time in the world.
Ok, to all you rdm's who want to beat this guy senseless... this is what you do. Recommended buffs: Stoneskin, Phalanx, Blink, Pro, Shell, and ofcourse Refresh. Your macros should include equipment switches... Enhancing Torque+Dark Staff for Sleep II, Elemental Torque+Wind Staff for Aero III. You might also want to start camping Profblix for your Moldavite Earring for that extra bit of help. Don't forget your INT gear either.
First off, be wary of how you pull. When you pull, make sure he's far away from his buddies. If he links (as others have posted) sleep him right near the zone line (with Blink/Stoneskin up, you shouldn't take too many hits). You want to pull with Silence by the way.
Once he's at the zoneline, alone and next to you, sleep him (if he's not already asleep). Debuff as follows: Dispel until Shell drops off, Silence, Paralyze. No mas! No more. :P Any DOT effects would make this battle hell for you, and you don't want that. Now slap him with a Aero III. Immediately afterwards, Sleep II. With AF hat equiped at level 70, you can chain these two together at around 80% casting (i.e., when the casting timer for Aero III hits 80%, hit your Sleep II macro). With Paralyze up, your quadav friend won't have much of a chance to hit you on waking up. With silence, he won't be able to cast anything. If Sleep II doesn't go through, go for Sleep I. Make absolutely sure that on each subsequent casting of Aero III/Sleep that his Paralyze or Silence (Silence, btw, takes priority) is still up... so watch the log.
After two or three Aero III casts, you may want to start healing for mp. Make sure your stoneskin is still decent enough to take a few hits if he wakes up. If you really want to nuke him hard and you believe you're fast enough do the following: Hit him with Thunder II, Sleep I, Aero III, Sleep II. It's harder on your MP but will be harder on his HP. Just remember... Silence~>Nuke~>Sleep. Sooner or later he'll use Chainspell. If you've followed what I've said, he'll most probably be silenced... and then a second later be asleep (Aero III~>Quadav's Chainspell~>Sleep II). The first few times you may need to Convert atleast once per fight... but as you progress, you'll notice that you Convert less and less.
One final note... Do not draw your sword to him. If with a friend, advise them not to draw their weapon... The only time I duo'd these was with another RDM who requested my help for his testimony. We just did the same thing pretty much... Both Thunder II'd, Sleep, Aero III'd, Sleep II. If with a non-mage (for instance PLD), don't let them get hate... I've seen PLD's take massive amounts of damage from EP's... an nm which is approximately VT to them would turn them to mush. Only exception maybe would be NIN's and anyone who subs NIN. If with a RNG, see if you can have them use Sleep Bolts. It'll save you the trouble of casting Sleep II... plus it'll be a mini nuke (although it doesn't always sleep... >_<)
After you've gotten a hang of these, you might try your hands at Sapphire Quadavs... the level 60+ BLM's of the Quadav family. Happy hunting.
If you're able, take a 67-70 THF with you to tank...they can get a testimony from the Platinum while u wait on Ruby to repop, all the THF will need is an occasional silence put on the Ruby and you'll have no trouble at all.
Did Genkai 3 as a LV56 THF with a LV60 BLM friend of mine today. When we first zoned into Qulun, he was on the far side of the room, but we didn't take the chance offered - neither of us had Echo Drops, so we just got cursed by the afflictor, and the curse dropped right after zoned. Red HP and MP = BAD. So we healed, and he moved around. And we waited.
And waited.
And waited.
If you haven't figured it out now, waiting for Ruby to go the hell away is the biggest challenge of the Beadeaux section of Genkai 3. After a while, Ruby went up against the wall to the left of the north tunnel (the one you need to reach to get to the ??? room) facing the wall and nestled into a little corner, and I got ballsy. Remember, sound detection range is a lot shorter than sight. Anyway, I snuck past him without any problems at all, as did my BLM partner, and we both got our crests. My BLM started casting Escape rather than Warp 2, however, so my sneak dropped in the middle of the room and I ended up bloodporting back. ;p
I find it ironic that I dashed past a LV70 True Sight NM and didn't get detected, only to die at the hands of a mundane mob.....
all these messages on how easy this ruby quadav is and i couldnt even take half of his hp down and i was giving it all my best and i was told to be the best rdm on the ramuh server. what am i doing wrong do I need my sword to be capped or what. I am a lvl 70rdm/35blm please tell me what i am doing wrong ohh when i did beat him with help of someone he didnt drop nothing, zero, crap, nada.
I know this a pretty old post... but I can't help but chuckle at this post. Using your sword to fight a high lvl NM? ::snigger:: I sure hope you hadn't planned on fighting Maat that way at the time...
This guys really easy all you need to do is sleep, defbuffnuke nuke sleep heal. I killed him about 3 time (no drop yet /twitches) it took about 9-10 min. best thing to do is to take out one of the other quadavs first then go for ruby to prevent links. Oh ya. When you need to get rid of his shadows cast sleepga.

I just easily soloed this as 65RDM twice. I don't see any respawn time listed here, so I would like to add for those of you camping it for the testimony that it took approximately 15 minutes for it to respawn.
I just finished soloing this thing as 66RDM/33BLM sometime last night, and figured I'd give a few quick points of advice about the fight for any RDM that wants to do this (along with a few details about my experience).
Basically, the whole fight took me about 30 minutes, but that's including the fact that I had a bunch of mishaps as I learned what to and not to do along the way. Do keep in mind, though, that if you're intending to win, this fight will take a decent amount of time.
Anyway, down to the meat: When I killed Ruby, it was by a pretty significant margin (though i had a few close calls) as a 66RDM/33BLM Taru. All of my skills, with the exception of healing, were capped. When nuking, i had 72+23 INT, and +25 elemental skill. When silencing, i had a Wind Staff, along with +23 Enf. Skill, and when sleeping, i had the same with a Dark Staff.
My strategy: Start with Blink, Phalanx, Stoneskin, Prot. 4 on. Keeping Refresh up at all times is a given. Go to the edge of the first hallway, and pull with Stonega (to get rid of the shadows). If you see Ruby beginning to cast, just run straight to the zone- its not worth trying to silence him so he chases you. Zone, come back in, and with any luck, all the mobs should be back in place, and Ruby wont have his Blink up anymore. Pull him with Silence this time, and all of the Quadavs in the room (him included) will chase you to the zone. Before you actually scamper back out to Beadeaux, Sleep Ruby. After sleeping him, zone, and wait about 30 seconds or so. When you zone back in, all the others should be back in the room with The Mute, and Ruby should be waiting for you at the zone, sound asleep. Cast Sleep II on him to extend his period of slumber, and proceed to cast Blink and Stoneskin on yourself... don't worry about Phalanx this battle, it's a waste of time and MP, seeing as if you're doing it right, Blink should be taking care of everything. Cast Dispel on him until he has no buffs left. Silence him, and start casting Stone III (if you have it, use either Water or Aero III, Stone III was just the best I had). When your bar is about 80% full, start spamming your sleep macro. With any luck, he should be sound asleep before his Silence wears, and before he can break through more than 2 of your shadows. Once sleeping, use Aspir, renew your Blink, if he hit your stoneskin, renew that, re-silence, lather, rinse, repeat. When you run out of MP the first time around, layer on an extra Sleep II to make sure he doesn't wake up at an inconvenient time, and Convert. From that point forward, if you run out of MP, you can actually heal about 300-400 MP while resting after Sleep II'ing him... he'll stay out cold for quite a while. Just always remember to keep renewing Blink and Stoneskin when they get damaged, keep Refresh up, keep him Silenced when waking him with a nuke, and don't get careless.
A few warnings: Ruby, at around 1/2 HP, will use Chainspell. This, as you already well know, is extremely dangerous if left unchecked. Fortunately, unlike Maat, this guy will actually sleep while his Chainspell is up. So, if you're following the pattern, you should be sleeping him when he Chainspells without even paying attention to it. Another warning is in regard to the whole silencing dealy... because he'll often wake up and decide to start casting a Tier 3 spell, ppl begin to feel comfortable with not using silence, because Sleep hits him before he can cast anyway. Don't fall into that trap. He also has Bio III and Cure IV, which are major pains in the rear (especially Cure IV), and are too fast to be stopped by sleeping him.
All in all, despite the lengthy nature of this post, it was a pretty smooth battle, and shouldn't be too tough for any RDM 65 and above if they play it right. I got a nice 240 exp from the battle, which was a pretty satisfying reward for all of my time spent there.
