if you have the bronze box in your inventory the quest will not start i had this problem alot i would have the item on me and the NPC will not give the quest just dump it in your mog storage, locker, safe, satchal then try again this item has been in my mog storage for 3 years(earth) now never found out what it was used for til i read this page i never threw it away because of the (rare)(ex) icon in the discription

LOL, i must be lucky. After reading all the comments about how hard this is (supposed) to be, I almost feel like a complete jerk. I got the Bronze Box after one catch aboard the boat, and I didn't even know about this quest!
Also, for some odd reason, she won't accept the bronze box and i can't start this quest. Maybe its because I just now finished the Headline quest and have to wait a bit?

What level is recommended to attempt this quest?
Approximately what level are the crabs? Is this doable at level 30 without getting creamed by another enemy? As far as I understand, there are many high level enemies aboard the ship.

Me and my bro went as lv 11 PUPs heading to the dunes and killed 2 crabs and got 2 boxes so lv 30 should CREAM these things

My LS went Pirate hunting and about 4 of our members were fishing (11 total as we were in Alliance). Every member pretty much got a Bronze Box drop. Seemed like every 2-3 crabs draooped one.
Does it matter what rod you use? Is a bamboo rod ok?? As I was trying for 2 hours and still got nothing, but bastore sardines and qu's all the time and a pugil once. And I've been using lugworms as bait. killed a few crabs on deck, but got nothing *sigh

When I found my box, I was using just the basic Tarutaru Rod and Minnows that they sell on the ship. I don't think the drop is based on the rod/bait you use, just a matter of luck. Hope you were able to finally get it!
i found the box from a crab that was already on the boat i believe but it might have been someone elses catch

before the patch someone fished a ocean crab, I killed it, got the box, however I found out that my bag was full a little too late >.>
This is VERY easy!
Did about 3 trips with only lv 1 fishing, and mithran rod, lugworm....
Got first drop from pop - five dropped by 3rd trip - I was looking for sand charm so this was an added bonus! ;)
Lucky was in pt after sea horror popped (twice ><) - we got one each in the end...
Best drop rate came from sea crab pops btw....no need to even fish

i got the box on my first try fishing with only lvl 2 fishing and a bit of advice if you dont want to go up agenst a sea monk only fish heading to mhaura from selbina not the other way round they hardly ever show up then

I had fishing skill 7 when i was doing this quest... i was using a mithran fishing rod with a fly lure and in my first try i caught... a SEA MONK!! a enormous IT squid!!!!!! i inmediatly ran off into the boat and then that thing killed me before i could escape :_( take care, that quest is more difficult than it seems...

This box was a pain for me to get. I did around 15 trips on the boat, killed as many crabs as I could and fished the whole time. I finally got one dropped off a crab I fished up and killed.
Just a FYI - it might take a while for you to get this but keep trying...

I got this quest as soon as I finnished Making Headlines at level 2 fame.
This quest is gonna be so hard if you can barely catch the mobs that drop the box.

I have found that I average a box dropping crab every 2-3 boat trips. I fished up a few for me and a couple of friends last night. Comp. Rod + Sabiki lure. fishing lvl 27 (though this shouldn't matter much as I said in my last post)
Even if you arn't much for fishing, they will also spawn randomly on deck. Fishing them up is just much faster.

Like all monsters you fish up the bait and rod you use don't really matter. I used a composite fishing rod and a sabiki lure. The only reason I chose that bait was that it can be purchased on the boat and I use that rod for everything (until I get lu shang's).
I was using a Composite Rod and Meatballs and fished up a crab and it dropped the box. Yeah!

um also right whenb you get on deck there are usually osme crabs jsut walking around

I caught my crab&the box on the way FROM Selbina TO Mhaura, so either direction is ok.
Naiko-Paneiko will be rather upset when he finds out the catburglar overwrote the story with "The key is in the cardian's stomach"
I wonder if this means you can open de door by whacking cardians until one drops the key...
