Katayama Ichimonji  

Well I just got my sam the other day and a friend said theres a good katana that drops of this guy. So I waltz up the mountain and Carnero was already there. Kill, bam, drop. Guaranteed 100% drop for anyone else going to get this. Might not get as lucky as me with him already being there but oh well.

Was fighting on Vomp hill yesterday as my 9 NIN and saw Carnero, new its lvl and what it dropped so thought i'd have a go, was owning its ass when 2 Ornery sheep decided to link, thats when i died, HP'ed and got my 31RDM and raced back to the hill just to see someone about to engage, so franticly typing Carnero Can I Have It on universal translator hwen the guy engages and kill it and sends a message back in english sorry don't speak english and runs off, so i camped, killed all the sheep i could see, all the skellies and Wolves that spawned at night and no Carnero. /fumes. Gonna try again tonite, my SAM's only lvl 5 but this is one nice weapon to own.

Hey - Brand new to FF XI... ( man there is alot to learn in this game) anywhoo I was walking around Vomp Hill , harvesting beehive chips, while my friend was on the second level and saw Carnero... he asked me if i knew what that was - I didnt. He decided to attack it ( lev 11 monk) and got killed.. I went up myself ( lev 12 war) and fought him and got him to a sliver of live left - before he killed me. We grouped and went up to exact revenge. killed him and He got the Katayama Ichimonji. I've read this is a rare/exlusive peice of equipment. Is this weapon sellable or tradeable at all ? Neither one of us is / or most likely going to be a SAM. Is there any way we can get rid of the Katayama Ichimonji? Is all Eq recieved by NM kills non sellable/ tradeable ?

got the drop on accident looking for onery sheep for fresh blood drop for chocoboleech's Gassen, i just keep getting more and more reasons to play SAM lol.

kill a bunch of sheep....1 triggers the nm 2 pop...its like lvl 15....kill it and

well this GK is not a 100% but maybe 75% cause i went 3/4 with it i got this bad boy last year and took it up to 21 cause the extra str made it stronger and after that noticeable drop in dmg so it's good GK for 10-20, it's good to camp this while waiting for LL window lol good luck btw sam75/war37/rng37/thf37 most combat skills capped

100% drop rate ?

Can't vouch for that statistically but i did kill it and get the drop first time.

I'm am also intending to take this sword to at least level 20, maybe further. Beats all the other weapons available until then hand's down.

BTW killed Carnero with Sam9/Rng4, no problems with some meat jerky and 300 tp and a little Meikyo shisui if it all goes wrong.

So I am bored off my mind right, and my friend died like 4 times doing some mission in the dangruf wadi, so i say sure why not i'll PL you to get your lvl back other wise she would have needed to buy new gear. SO we hop on to vomp hill, and she starts killing bees, i see this guy, sais impossible to gauge, so my first thought it... hmmm.... how impossible to gauge is it >.> its is south gustaberg after all, so i decided to throw a stone III on it... he died, I laugfhed and got my Katayama :P So i quickley went over and changed to my lvl 10 samurai to try it out and Damn is this a good sword, i partied with my friend and i was owening lizzies like nothing. She left as soon as she lvl'd up but i decided to stay and test out my new blade in every mob i could find, soon enough leapin lizzy spawned.. me still lvl 10 sam decide to take her on, danm i owned her got no drop, but it was pretty sweet, kept soloing got close to lvl 11 when she popped agian, killed her and got drop this time, some thief got mad that he was waiting for like 4 hrs and i claim and kill it twice as a lvl 10 sam/war, so i decide to stick a round a while and like an hr later now as 13 sam/war, i get the claim once more, i inv this thf guy to my party hoping he gets the drop and to make sure no one else gets claim, but no luck. :\ So i decided to call it a night and to make sam my new job to lvl thx to Bounding boots and Katayama :P The next day i got my Sam to lvl 20 :P now i need to find out what sword to get ^.^

whens a good time to get a new weapon? lvl 20?

Ok so I was lvling whm in Gustaberg for a sub to my DRG. I was on the second level of Vomp Hill and I saw this sheep that was bigger than the rest called Carnero. I looked it up here on Alla and saw it was lvl 11-12. I tried to take it with my lvl 9 WHM and died rather quickly, so I HP'ed, changed jobs to my 26DRG, and came back out hoping he was still there, after about 3 minutes of searching I found him again and swiftly took him down. I got the katana so it should be very useful when i need to lvl SAM sub for my DRG.

Since it's rare/ex it can't be sold.

im lvl 30 WAR/13 WHM with BST and PLD im going to get this sword no matter how long it takes. just because this sword looks hot as hell im going to get it then doing the quest for SAM

Same post in the Sheep's section. Pure luck. I had just zoned out of Bastok Markets, my Paladin friend was going to PL my BST to 10. Soon as we go out, some person zoned this mob. I checked it and it conned Impossible to Gauge. I was partied with my PLer and I was like "omfg KILL IT!" So, the Paladin pwnt it good and the sword dropped. We were like "Hrm?". "Lotted!" lol. I out-lotted him and now I feel bad; but what the hay..we're looking for it as I level. Nice GK, too. Perdy-lookin'.

this great katana is good till 16 but to get its a pain i ran up both hills to get it and spent 3 hours to get it but i highly recemend this great katana to all samurai

I've seen people saying that this katana is better all the way through 20 by virtue of attack alone, but what you need to realize is that changing weapons doesn't affect attack. The only reason the attack for this is +1 is because of the little STR boost. You can swap between a DMG:1 and DMG: 33 weapon, and your attack will not change.

Attack is affected by +STR, +ATK, and your actual skill level with the weapon. Don't be fooled by the number for Attack, it isn't the only thing determining damage.

I got this wonderful weapon when my SAM was level 9 and have been using it since I hit level 10. It really does make a difference when fighting!

I'm just wondering when does it "run out of steam?" At what level should I look at upgrading to another weapon and in your opinion what should that weapon be?

IBHalliwell - Discovering meele can be fun. Yeah, I shocked a lot of people when they saw me as a SAM! After all, I've been a mage for over 18 RL months.

yeah i was lvling a mule and saw carnero impossible to gauge so i tried killing it with 300% tp hit it for 50 with hard slash on my war and still had to use mighty strikes now i have to lvl up my elvann war to 30 so i can do quest to weild this beautiful peice of weaponry

I got this awhile back. Camped for 10 minutes, Carneo spawned, I killed it and got drop *of course*. I'm 22 at the moment and i still use it. It's better than the katana at lvl 20 by one attack if you try em both on.

Heh I got bored and decided to get this. I camped this for around 30 min, killing every single sheep I saw. RNG sub is cool but its not nessessary. The GKT droped seems to be 100% like everyone saids. hehe cool GKT to have

Ok, I just got my Katayama Ichimonji Today, and i'm going to share everything that I know about it.
First off, getting to the NM.
Carnero is easy enough to get to, being in South Gustaburg on the second level of Vamp hill. As of all of the other posts i've read, he seems to only pop on the second level. I camped him for well over 30 minutes, however, as 43monk with Ranger subbed for Widescan. Widescan is helpful when there aren't many other campers, because it allows you to cover the entire I-9 I-8 range for Carnero's spawn. Although many believe it to be a 30 minute respawn, I feel that it is most definately a lottery pop, 30 minutes - 1 hour plus. I was there for at least an hour searching for mine, and I don't see that anyone else could have killed it, unless they were very lucky and it spawned right in front of them, and they were strong enough to kill it in a few hits :P When I got there, there was a 75Rdm/Nin and a 54Pld/War, both hunting for the NM. The Rdm and I were both hunting Ornery Sheep in the "intersection" of paths, lower I-9, second level of Vamp. We chatted abit, but then he went to the center of the path and didn't move, or attack any other mobs. The Paladin drifted off somewhere, didn't see him leave, and I continued to kill everything. After 45 minutes, the Rdm D/Ced, and I screamed like a little fat kid eating cupcakes. He never came back on, and I constantly checked widescan for Carnero. After about the 70th check, lol, I see his name on widescan, > Track > Run > Attack! I got him with no competition around. He died before I was able to fire off a Raging Fists lol. I was exstatic when I saw the item's name on my screen. Carnero popped at 9:53, in the top portion of I-9, right where other Ornery sheep spawned. The sword itself is very nice, incredible. Luckily, my Samurai job is level 10, so I ran into my mog house to equip it, and it is lovely^ ^ The stats are Lv. 10 Samurai, DMG: 28 450 Delay STR+1 DEX+1 I think i'm going to have to level Samurai now lol. I also have two pictures of my character with Katayama Ichimonji equipped, one a fashion shot, one of it in action wooping an easy prey turtle's ass, its very cool. They pretty much had to make this one a rare/ex. It's too easy, too close to a city and too good a piece of equipment to have it otherwise. They probably wouldn't sell for much if it wasn't because of how many people would be camping the NM.

10hrs ago Carnero poped, killed and got the katana, maybe is 100% drop?

Dmg is very nice, i hit as drk's in dunes, is awesome till 16.

Just acquired it, too. The extra dex and str is very well welcomed. I posted a little information about getting it in the Carnero thread.
