Summary

Raifa wants you to exterminate an ecological threat, and bring her evidence of the feat.

In-Game Text

Description

Before attempting this quest ensure you have one designated leader that everyone will follow so that the alliance works as one big team. This is essential for the success of this mission. Make sure you have a full alliance!!!

Reifa is located in the Steaming Sheep Restaurant. Talking with Reifa he will tell you of an infestation in the Gusgen mines. His group (V.E.R.M.I.N.) is in charge of clearing out the mines, and he requests your help to clear the mines. Reifa informs you that you should meet up with Degga either at or in (he doesn't say which) the Gusgen mines for more information on the quest.

Go to Gusgen mines and talk to Degga. Degga will apply an oil that level limits you to 20 and makes it so that anyone without the oil cannot cast spells on you (no heals, buffs, etc. unless they have to oil also).

After speaking to Degga and everyone in the alliance has the level cap, proceed north to the first intersection. Take the west corridor (VERY IMPORTANT)!

The west corridor will have mostly ghouls and bandersnatches. Fight these allong the way to ensure you do not train them all the way to the ??? or you will die.

This corridor has only one path to follow, it will veer to the right (to the North). Continure following and clearing the mobs until you reach the most northern part of the passage. You will now be in the large room at the northmost part of the map high up on a platform. If you are not on the platform, you have not taken the correct corridor!! On this platform, go a few steps EAST to locate the ??? (LOCATION G-6 FIRST FLOOR). There will be about 5-6 ghouls and 2-3 bogies. Clear these bogys and search for the ???. The ??? are easy to find because they are located on a CHEST in the middle of the deck. When all the mobs are clear, and everyone is buffed and medded, have the main alliance TANK touch the ??? - DO NOT allow any other player to touch it first as they will instantly get the hate. Once the two NM's are dead, make sure that EVERYONE then touches the ??? to complete the quest. Now you get to fight your way back out!

so easy

ive never done eco warrior, but this one (in gusgen) seems easy. you dont need highlevels to clear a path. use sneak. undead aggro on sound, and sneak is a lvl 20 spell. and if the ??? is easy to get to, like everyone says it is, you should only have to sneak everybody once
RE: so easy
# Mar 15 2004 at 10:46 PM Rating: Decent
Raudy, I do not think this will work. The ??? is in the middle of about ~4 Ghouls, and ~2 Bogys. As soon as you start fighting the Puddings your Sneak will go and you will get Agroed.

That is why many people suggest getting a High Level to clear the way and watch the group during the battl. they can't touch the puddings or help, but they can protect from pops.

We got a alliance to do this one at Fenrir some months ago, 18 people + 1 outside the alliance that cleared us a path. 4 of us ended up dead and setting up tactits alone was hard enough since everyone kept talking in each others mouth. ;)
Definitly doable though, just get two well balanced parties and a third filled with whatever jobs you want, someone at lvl 40 or so to clear you a path is recomended also.
As stated in the description, teamwork is essential to pull this off.
interesting

i did the quest lvl 30 war, got the cap and well to put it blutnly we screwed around to long and my cap thing wore off since i was one of the first one there. BEFORE they got the puddings.i could not target the puddingsso i basically looked fo rmobs that spawned. and after they finished i got cap lvl and GOT the item still.so basicaly all the cap lvl does it limits your ability to attack the puddings.
Repeatable?

This really wasn't that bad. We ended up going in twice. The first time, with just the alliance, who were all good people that listened to directions. Unfortunatly, we had a Bogy and three ghouls spawn on us right before (thankfully) we clicked on the ???. Four people died, the oil wore off, we all went back and regrouped outside.

At this point, I found a 41war to come clear the path for us. We all went back in, got the oil applied again, and we were in the room with the ??? in it in less than 10 minutes. Had the alliance (full 18 people), split and have 9 on 1 pudding and 9 on the other. They dropped QUICK. Everyone got the indigested ore, and everyone completed the mission. I even got 5 new members to join my linkshell.

The KEY to this mission is having someone at least level 35+ to clear the path for you that is not part of the alliance. Also have them keep a watch while you're fighting the puddings incase a bogy or ghoul pops. I can solo all these mobs with my 30pld, but I need to rest after every one or two, so 35 at least to clear the path.
Blah!

I accidentally accepted this quest a while back and it's been pissing me off since. I can't find anybody in Bastok on my server that wants to do this quest. Just really, really ridiculous. I wish I got ordelle's cave instead. At least I can find people for that quest, even if I can't do it yet. :-/
Awful Quest
# Feb 19 2004 at 11:05 AM Rating: Decent
This quest is horrible. My alliance had the battle won but then 2 bogys and 3 ghouls spawned on us and promptly slaughtered us. Was a very fun battle though :)

O.K. my linkshell is trying to get this qest done. However, I am from Windy and when I talk to Reifa she says can I have a moment of your time? Oh, you seem to be pre-occupied. simply put, I couldn't accept the quest. I have now wasted several hours raising my Bastok fame to no avail. It seems that it is neigh impossible to accept this qust in 2 different towns. If anybody has any idea what I'm doing wrong, please post soon as I'm about to be left out of the raid.

I think once you take one of this quests in the other towns you can't get it on any other town till you are done with the first one.
Shouldn't have accepted

Directions
# Feb 01 2004 at 11:33 PM Rating: Default
wow, this was crazy... tried to follow the guide and we got so lost. Took us 3 hours. I finally read all the post from below to find the right directions.

"At the first intersection take a left then head north until you see a toolbox that has the ???."

It should only take you about 2 mins to get to the area more if you fight everything. This area has a Bogy and 2 Ghouls when we got there. We only had an alliance of 14 people, actually only 12 of us fought the Jellys and it was very easy.

We were suppose to wait for 2 people but some idiot clicked on the ??? after repeatedly being told not to. I thought we were all going to die but everyone used their 2 hours. Finished

EDIT TO PREVIOUS POST = ROOM is in G-12, not G-5 (the room in the very far back)
Organization is the key

Yeah this is a pretty hard quest simply because everyone needs to be organized. Without organization, people will DIE. The main problems you will encounter in this quest are:

1)Lots of undead and other monsters to fight before getting to the final room

2)Level Cap of 20 - makes gear, spells, and skills above 20 useless.

3)The final fight is against a pair of very tough Jellies

First of all, have everyone in the alliance read-up about the quest on this website. This will help GREATLY. Also to make things go faster, you can get a few hi-level players to clear the path for the alliance before getting to the final room (we took the western passage to get there). Also, make sure everyone follows directions explicitly.

Getting to the room:
We took the western passage to the room in G-5. If you have a map (which is needed here) the room is in the very far back of the Gusgen Mines. There are lots of undead and wolves on the way, so take them one at a time if possible. In our case, 5 people died on the way to the room. Why? because they didnt listen to our leader, and they wanted to explore (aggroing too many monsters for the alliance to handle in the process). Simply put, everyone must follow ONE LEADER, and must do as he or she says - otherwise, chaos will ensue.

The room (G-12):
Before even fighting the Jellies, you must clear the room of various undead (Skeletons and Ghost types). After they are defeated, one player must interact with the <???> in this room. This is located in the center where there are some over-turned mining carts. The 2 jellies will then spawn - so attack them immediately. Because each Jelly is very strong, each party should be well balanced so they can handle one Jelly. All casters (taru especially) should stay back from the fight because the have an very hi-damaging area effect attack that can kill INSTANTLY. Also, remember that after the jellies are defeated, everyone must go interact with the <???> in order to complete the quest.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jan 23 2004 at 12:02 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) there is another way to do this, get 2 high lvl friends with you but not party, get the oil apply on you only and tell your friends clear the way to there, you go open the "???" but let your friends kill one and take one to 5% hp and they disengage so you can finish that one off, as long as both of them dies then you get the thing. this is much faster then trying to gather 50 people to go in there
RE: ```
# Feb 28 2004 at 3:52 PM Rating: Decent
You obviously haven't done any eco-war quests or you would know that the monsters spawned by clicking on the ???s can not be affected by anyone who does not have the oil applied to them.

Your method won't work

hi i just did the Quest last night and here is how it went down. we had 16 people in total, took us a while to get ourselves together as is was 2 different LS and some friends that we brought along with us. we had one WHM per group mine being a 4 person group since the other two members dropped from it because they had accepted the quest at other nations and couldn't get oil on them At Gusgen mines. anyway the correct location for the ??? is (G-6) and g-12 like it is posted here, now what we got out of the way let me say that it wasn't that hard at all, we had 2 blm with us and they casted sleep on a jelly unfortunately the jelly resisted every attempt to put to sleep and ended up wiping both the blm and me (whm) as i tried to Cure II him got hit once, tried to Cure II myself and the jelly was a bit quiker. Apparantly Provoke from our Warriors didn't take it off Me or the BLM. The fight was over in less than 2 mins thank God and it wiped out 2 others so a total of 4 loses but we all got the ORE afterwards. so a word of advice don't try to sleep the other Jelly for it will take the BLM and possibly the WHM out too. Good luck and don't fear death so long as one member still kills both jellys you will all get the ORE. simply go back Reapply oil and head back to G-6 to get the ORE.

About the question on getting this quest in different areas. you can actually get the quest no matter what country you start in. I actually have this quest activated for all 3 regions... no one else wants to do it so cant make an alliance but I do have it. you just need your friends to get the same quest as you or the NPC in the tunnel/cave/etc wont talk to them and apply oil

G-12 is incorrect!!!!
# Dec 29 2003 at 11:34 AM Rating: Default
G-12 is wrong. if you try to find it you will die. If you ever see a Wendigo, you went the wrong way. You should be seeing mobs like Ghouls, Bandersnatch, and maybe 1 Bogy, thats it. At 1st intersection make a left. then go north until you see the ???
no matter what
# Dec 22 2003 at 2:09 PM Rating: Default
i died before they died and still got the ore, so it doesnt matter, as long as they get beaten and you reapply the ointment, you can get the ore
important
# Dec 19 2003 at 11:30 PM Rating: Good
IMPORTANT: if you do happen to die, yet the monsters still get beaten, you can still get the key item. After you get a raise, travel back, recieve the level down again, and go check the ??? again. this time you will get the key item without having to fight the monsters. This happened to me!
On thing though, is i died exactly when the monster died, so maybe it only worked cause it was a double KO.
RE: important
# Feb 28 2004 at 3:55 PM Rating: Decent
As long as you were in the group/alliance when it died, it doesn't matter if you had the oil on you or not, you will get the credit. All thats needed after that is to apply the oil again and click on ???
Multi Eco-Warrior quests?
# Dec 19 2003 at 8:17 AM Rating: Default
Me and a few friends plan to do this one, but some of them have already accepted a similar quest with the same name from their own home nation. If someone has accepted the San d'Oria Eco-Warrior quest, and someone else has accepted the Bastok Eco-Warrior, how can they both go on 1 of them at the same time? I've already got a quest called Eco-Warrior in my quest list, so I don't see how I can take the San d'Oria one without finishing the Bastok quest first.

You cant ... the quests are mutually exclusive. If you start Eco-Warrior in 1 nation, you have to successfuly complete that quest 1st.

i saw some people post they didnt know where the mines were, just go to the highlands and directly east of the craig will take you to the mines.. degga will be close to where you enter
the quest in a box
# Dec 15 2003 at 11:53 AM Rating: Default
ok, everyones explained it, but to make i quick and simple, talk to the npc, goto the mines, degga will be just a few steps ahead after you enter, talk to him, he applies ointment, you drop to level 20, the place is like a wooden bridge with a chest in the middle with ??? click it, puddings spawn, killem, click the ??? again and you get some type of ore, leave and go back to the city, ointment will come off when you leave the mines, give it to reifa (bastok) or if you did it in san d'oria norjeaji or something, she gives you 5000gil and a page from the dragon chronicles, use that on yourself and you can get up to 1000 free exp depending on your level.

WHAT YOU NEED: a tank to get rid of enemies, and a white mage or red mage that can raise, there will be deaths no matter what.

WHAT YOU GET: 5000gil and free EXP from the page of dragon chronicles (exp varies on your level, i was given 643exp for level 25rdm/10blm)

FOR YOUR INFORMATION: we had 17 people, two of which werent in our parties, our tanker and healer (very high levels) we had in all 7 deaths from just two hard blows the hurt everyone.
Very very difficult
# Dec 15 2003 at 12:23 AM Rating: Excellent
Just finished this quest. My god was it difficult.

We had 3 groups in alliance, I would venture to guess you could do it with 2 groups of GOOD players, with healers...provided you all have armor/weapons appropriate to level 20.

You cannot have high levels help you, the chest spawns 2 puddings which only people with the oil on (which caps you at 20) can attack. Others cannot even HEAL people with oil on. No buffing, no healing, nada.

Reward was 5k gil plus a page of the Dragon Chronicals (usable by level 4) no clue what that does yet, I haven't 'used' it.

If people die while fighting the pudding they can still get the key, which is a key item ore something (I don't even remember) that you take back to the inn (there's no actual physical item).

All in all NOT worth the 5k, you can make 5k much easier..but worth getting a quest out of the way, and maybe worth that page...if I find out it's a good item ;D
re:
# Dec 14 2003 at 8:27 PM Rating: Default
no- the item that you get is a keyitem. You get it by after defeating the beast, reclicking on the ???. Then you will be good to go!
PROOF
# Dec 09 2003 at 5:12 PM Rating: Default
what item do you get to show that you have completed the mission so you can recieve your 5,000 gil. Wouldnt it be easier to just buy that item at the AH?
RE: PROOF
# Dec 17 2003 at 2:26 PM Rating: Default
The item obtained from this is a key item. After you defeat the monsters, you click on the ??? again and receive the key item to turn in. So no, it's not that simple
