Battle Notes

In order to enter the battlefield you will need to bring a Cloudy Orb, which is obtained by trading 20 Beastmen's Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno. When you are ready, trade the Cloudy Orb to the Burning Circle inside Waughroon Shrine and choose to enter the battle Crustacean Conundrum.

Up to 3 people may enter and you will all receive a level 20 restriction. You have 15 minutes to win. You will fight 3 Crabs. Two Metal Crabs and a Heavy Metal Crab.

The Heavy Metal Crab has 35 HP and the Metal Crabs have 25 HP. Each crab has Crab Special type attacks and the Heavy Metal Crab in addition has Waterga and Blind. They cannot be charmed but are susceptible to silence and bind. Most attacks do 0-2 damage with a majority doing 0-1. All three crabs also have a Drain attack for 15 HP.

Do you think this can be soloed by using sleep bolts, alternatong crabs each shot? The hard part would be to hit all 3 before they take away your HP...

I really don't understand these tactics ...3 rdm/nin or 2 rdm/nin ...why? I'm also a rdm so i know that rdm sucks at lvl 20 ....and sub nin sucks too ...
3 drg/mage could be a perfect choice,or drg - pup - drg ...this is the best formation in my opinion ...

Rdm have en~spells like Enthunder and Silence is very important. This is why :) It seems to be a large help in this battle. Now you know, maybe you'll do it? ^^ It's fun.

Bst doesn't get call beast till 23, and I don't think any of these crabs are charmable, so bst wouldn't be very good for this

i have done this bcnm like 20 times the body is 100% drop or at least it was the last time i did it and we just go all evasion gear bee sting and platoon dagger and go in buff up with enthunder and pro and shell and one binds the middle one binds the one on the left and the other silences the middle crab then the other comes right to us we murder it then the next one then the middle one then your done some times it can go back if the middle crab starts draining every hit just dont cast any DOT spells on it, it seems to do its drain a lot more if you do that and dont do it on darks day cause it like to drain at lot then to.

these guys are at like, 25 hp and 15 hp, but you can only deal 1-2 (if any) dmg at a time...
well, has anyone tried using drk and pld with weapon bash and sheild bash? ive noticed in normal leveling they tend to do the same amount of damage regardless of the mobs defense or your own attack. so would using weapon/sheild bash allow you to pull off more damage? or would it to drop down to 0-2 damage?
Ive only done 4 bcnms, 1 wings of fury and 3 treasurse and tribulations, 1/1 on astral ring and 0/3 on T&T, so im kinda new to bcnm.

What about rdm/mnk? Couldn't you occasionally counter for an extra 1 damage + enspell damage? And you could use dodge, too right?

Has anyone tried to SMN solo/duo this BCNM? The 2 Mannequin parts I need both drop from this BCNM, but I've never done this one and I'm not really a fan of asking for help. If I need a buddy, I can always use my hubby's laptop and char while he's at work, as long as I don't let him die.

I hope you all realize that nin sub is 100% useless at level 20. Not only is one weapon faster than 2 at that level (it's only when you get dual wield 2 at lvl 25 nin that it gets faster, i.e. lvl 50 main job), but you also have no utsusemi shadows. Bravo, way to use your heads people!

Since dmg is capped against these, it makes sens to do anything you can to get more total attacks in a given time frame. BCNM is not an EXP party, things that don't perform well in one may work in another (melee's subbing whm for example, or /nin way earlier than normal like here).

Its delay reduction not haste. Delay reduces TP gain per hit, haste does not.

I was wondering if anyone has thought of some new strategies for this bcnm? I have a couple that I wanted to try. I was thinking that maybe 3 blms. They go in and each of them elemental seal > bind one of the crabs. they then choose one crab to cast on and spam dia, bio, and stone on each crab one at a time starting with the big one.

another strategy could work but I'm not sure about the DoT spells. It would use a similar set up with the mages except the mages just cast bio on the mobs and let the DoT kill them. However, I read in one of the earlier posts that DoT doesn't work on these mobs. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

Ok we tried the nin/war rdm/nin x2 with great sucess, the key is high evasion gear and fastest daggers you can find (platoon daggers). Rdm/nin binds one smaller crab, nin/war vokes large crab and attacks other small one, dia. poison form a rdm, all three beat down litte guy, move to next little one, on large crab rsm silinces it, and take it down quick. On our third run ever we set record. btw no hi-pot/drinks all i had as nin/war was squid sushi and if you do it right and run fast enough it can last for 3 fights mine did, Good luck hope you can get your manequin

not as fast as other record but at least i tell you the set-up

Because as Drg/Rdm your wyvern will cast cure breath on you when you use ANY spell below 1/3 hp the wyvern also attacks adding more damage, AND by lvl10 Rdm has all 3 Dia Bio and Poison which Dia/Bio and Poison DO stack so when you get below 1/3 hp use Poison (3mp) for cure breath which will cure 30+ hp easy, use a juice or a rolanberry and you won't run out of mp.

Not sure what 2 other jobs would do well with that.

Tried this bcnm for the first time with a friend of mine who had leveled pup. We went as nin/war rdm/nin and pup/whm. It went horribly the first time cause we didn't know what the heck we were doing lol but went AMAZINGLY well the second time. Here's what we did.

Battle Plan:

The nin/war voked the big crab and the puppetmaster sent his puppet on one of the small crabs to tank and the rdm silences the big crab to get rid of that pesky waterga.

The rest of us wail on the third little crab til he dies then go to help the puppet on the second little crab. This crab dies fast and we turn to the main crab. and victory is ours.

Even though the crabs drain a total of 94 hp through out we had no problems at all. Only items used was selbina milk the pup noticed he had on the second run.

Sidenote: Do not underestimate Dia/Bio for this fight DoTs are always good.

Morale of the story have fun with the new jobs see what you can do ^^

We do it 2 nin/war and me Nin/mnk i use silence claw things i hate tryin to spell bahkahgangass or whatever the f its spelled. I go in and tank 2 crabs while the other 2 blink tank a small crab then they voke the 2nd small crab when the first dies and then we all 3 lay into the big crab so far we keep getting both body and hands 2/2 and we've not used nothin but a apple au lait which was crafted by our cooker. so its a good way to go if you wanna try it.

For the record, we dont go RDM/NIN RDM/NIN RDM/NIN, we dont go MNK MNK MNK (+hundred fists's), and as a static the three of us have gone on literally a hundred runs over the course of a year+ and not lost once. Only once or twice have the mann. hands dropped, so yes they do drop, but the drop rate is worse than bounding boots...
We are all on Shiva Server, send Sakae, Mordakai, or Dreng a /tell if you see us around.

People have had success several ways.

Easiest way to do reguardless of what anyone says.

RDM/NIN x3 cheapest.

Nin/??? x3 more expensive.

We do this several times as 3 taru RDM/NIN's no items needed each of us takes one crab.

Setup protect and enthunder with 2 of the quickest daggers you can find. Speed is the key all damage will hit for 1 reguardless of what you do. so to make this work well and quick.

Each dagger with an enthunder will now hit for 2 points 1 for the dagger and 1 for enthuder, using dual weild u know hit for 4 points each turn. Timeing your cure's inbetween mob hits is somehting that should be learned and easily done by lvl 20.

A more expenisve way is buying elemantal daggers like wind and equipping a wind fan. i haven't tried this but gives the effect of 4 damage per turn just might have a problem with cures unless u sub RDM or WHM.

Gather 'em up at start; thunderspark for 3 dmg per crab (total) plus para
Send one ramuh after each crab.
All SMN attack same crab.
Once crab dies, move on; save heavy metal for last.

Think it'd work?

We just tried this very strat only to do 1 damage a piece per mijin gakure. I say this myth is busted. We went in 3 nin/war all 2hr on one crab and bam... NOTHING!! lol. Anyway.. this does not work unless SlothManMordy left something out nin 2 hr is useless.

So my static has been doing this BCNM for a long time. We recently tried using a NIN/WAR tank, and after tearing through the first two tiny crabs, we said "what the ****" and the nin 2hrd the big one. All i can say is, HOLY CRAP
The next time we got the seals we used this strategy:
Nin/war w/ Scroll of Reraise
Nin/war w/ Scroll of Reraise
Nin/war w/ Scroll of Reraise
Strategy: Run in, one Nin (the one who used the orb to start BCNM) uses reraise scroll. Each Nin 2hr a crab, the nin who used the scroll raise himself and open the chest. Badda bing badda boom.
It seemed when SE made this BCNM, although melee only hits for 0-1 (crits for 2), they totally overlooked the Nin 2hr.

Did this last night.

1st Party setup:

Nolluz - RDM/NIN
Cane - RDM/NIN
Strangeone - RDM/NIN

ok we tried this and it was an abject failure mainly because the big mob (Heavy Metal Crab) kept draining an rdm on a hit. Not good. We did manage to stumble acrose the "kill the small fry" first technique but that drain thing just killed us. 0/2

2nd Party setup:

Cane - NIN/WAR
Nolluz - RDM/NIN
Strangeone RDM/NIN

first try didn't go so well - our attacks were too spread out and eventualy I killed my mob and died to the next one then nolluz then of course cane. I though I saw what we were doing wrong and volunteered my next orb to the next try. 0/3

That got it right. Ok the technique: there are 3 mobs, 1 Heavy Metal Crab and 2 Heavy Crabs. Start: all zone in and buff, have one of the rdm buff the NIN as well. Pop yag drinks and rest for mp. Both rdm should have barwater and enthunder on. High speed daggers for all are a very good deal in this one. go up to the lip of the bowl and get ready to rock an roll.

Now make sure the first target is well established. The first target should be one of the two small fry. We chose the left one. So the approch is as follows: 1 rdm binds the right mob, ninja aggros and voke the big mob (center one) and the 3rd rdm simply attacks the chosen target. As soon as the main mob is voked and the other mob is bound all 3 mus concentrate on the same mob to kill it as quickly as possible. heal self and ninja while this is going on, keep everyone alive. Once first mob is down switch to 2nd small fry. Again kill kill kill keep nin and selves alive. Ok once the small fry are out of the way you can concentrate on the big guy. 1) NIN re-vokes and makes sure utsusemies are up. 2) make sure the mob is silenced (both rdm casting is not a waste in this case as waterga will just drag things out - crab will waterga, strip the nin's shadows, hit the nin and heal himself). During this part of the fight make sure you keep an eye out on the en-, you'll usualy have to re-apply it. Done properly everyone should finish this with yellow hp and over half the mp left. 2/5

3rd party

Isyan - NIN/WAR
Nolluz - RDM/NIN
Strangeone - RDM/NIN

Switch of NIN here and again once technique is figured out it's a breeze. 3/6

So 3 Manequin Bodies were aquired in this run (I already had the body) - took much longer than anticipated due to the slight case of DEATH we aquired while working out the kinks in the technique.

Notes:
1) if you already have a Manequin Body - you can help but don't bother with an orb as that is the only thing of REAL value in the drops. (doh! - oh well enjoy the Manequin Body Cane :) )
2) You can have more than 3 people in the party when doing this - as we discovered. You can even have the people not opening the chest run away before opening it (less running arround). The person(s) not doing the actual BCNM run can still lot on things. The only thing we didnt' test was being able to use an orb but not go on the run. We'll have to try and see if we can do that at some point. If we could, we might even be able to do runs for people without rdm and nin leveled.
3) once you have technique down pat, even the yag drinks are optional, just takes a few seconds longer to rest. no 2h, no muss,no fuss. The yags are realy to speed things up only (the rest for mp part of the fight).
4) everyone was doing sushi for acc+

/Nin - I know what they say about DW1, but I've watched it from a 3rd vantage point, and DW1 does give some sort of help. In 1 minute a Rdm/Nin with 2 daggers will do 5% more hits than a Rdm/War with the same dagger on the same mob.


You got log data to back this up?

RDM/NIN at 20 is a gimp ... hands down

I watched my two buddies fighting tough quaddavs on the way to this BCNM one rdm/pld (for the def & mp boost) and the other rdm/nin (for the dual wield and evasion boost). Both Tarus, They each were wearing 100% the exact same items except instead of the second dagger, one had a decurions shield.

Both of their beggning attacks started at the exact same time. The /Ninja would hit 20 times for the /Paladin's 19 times. The 20th and 19th attack landed at the exact same time. I counted this phonemon 5 or 6 times in the time we were fighting quaddavs on the way to the BC (Us 3 were getting pretty good experience at level 20 fighting those quaddavs by the BC).

i dont think so, any magic, hits, ws, or sc ends in 0 or 1 damage.... i think best thing u can do is rdm/nin, rdm/whm, and nin/war

rdm/nin can be replaced with a mnk with low delay weapon and high evasion imo

I am the NIN/WAR in Somoz's post above from about a month ago. Have done this BCNM well over
a dozen times with various folks and have yet to fail once. Mannequin Body is 100% drop as far as I can tell. Yet, you can never tell with good 'ol Squeenix...
Let me just say, RDM/NIN, RDM/NIN, NIN/WAR is THE BEST way to handle this fight. The hardest aspect of this BCNM is not passing out in Lower Jeuno while shouting to sell the Body piece at 2am.
To the Ninjas out there, so long as you have all your key skills capped (evasion, ninjutsu, dagger, parrying, etc.), and wear the best gear (Bone +1, silver earrings +1, travelers mantle, etc.), you can cruise through this without even using food or potions. Scroll up this thread, follow Somoz's directions, and I guarantee you will not lose. Happy Huntng.

On Lakshmi server, easiest way to sell the body is bazaar it in Rollanberry Fields. Not sure if other servers do this, but here it's like an AH there. ^^

I find I have better luck with BCNM 20 Wings of Fury,better drops,and I've found them to be more frequent.I usually go with 2x BST,1xWHM,BRD,or RDM

I agree, astral rings are much better to get than mannequin peices. You can sell them on AH and all rather than having to sell on bazaar.

One sugguestion with your Wings of Fury setup: Drop the 3rd member. you don't need em. Just bring 2 hi-potions per person per battle, and you should be fine. Do 2x bst/whms and rest when the flurries are killing the boss and eachother. You'll do fine. Why would you want to split the loot 3 ways when its just as easy 2 ways.

What you are fighting:
You will be fighting 3 NM Crabs. Each one has an additonal effect of drain on their attacks. The drain cannot be stopped with any spell. Just gotta hope to make them not hit you. Heavy metal Crab has 25 HP, and the two Metal Crabs have 15 HP. Your plan of attack here is Enthunder. Enthunder lets you essentially hit twice every attack. Enthunder also seems to land with damage more often then your regular dagger. You want to keep them from hitting you, they can't drain what they can't hit. And you want to try to stay alive. With every spell you cast, thats 2-3 dagger strikes you didn't land. Keep that in mind.


Party Setup:
Rdm, Rdm, Rdm.
Your subjobs are up to you for the most part.
/Nin - I know what they say about DW1, but I've watched it from a 3rd vantage point, and DW1 does give some sort of help. In 1 minute a Rdm/Nin with 2 daggers will do 5% more hits than a Rdm/War with the same dagger on the same mob.
/Pld - Def Bonus with a little bit extra mana.
/Thf - Evasion Bonus is good
/War - Def Bonus is good
/Whm - Is very handy for 1 of the members. BarWatera helps a lot. And Protectra saves some time with spelling up.

Alternative setup, is to have a Thief/Warrior in the party. When you switch to the Heavy Metal crab and start attacking it, when it is debuffed and you are buffed and cured, the Thief can hit Perfect Dodge, and Provoke the crab. Which will keep it from its Drain Attack for long enough to have it be killed.


What to bring:
1-2 Hi-Potions per battle.
1-2 Juices per battle.
1 Bream Sushi per battle.
1 Orb per battle - hehe.

Hipotions help you heal w/o depleating your mana supply. Also if you do run out of MP keep at least 20 or so for when Enthunder wears off.
Juices keep your MP up, it won't be a long battle, but you'll use a lot of mana.
Bream Sushi keeps your accuracy up, you need to hit as much as possible, the Damage doesn't mean anything, just need to land the hits. the added Vit helps a bit too.


What to wear:
I went in with 3 rdms in full Bone +1 armor, with +eva earrings, and +agi rings. He can't drain what he can't hit. Platoon Daggers are the name of the game here. 150 delay is perfect for these things. Anywhere you can't put +eva or +agi, put +vit. These things can pack a bit of a walop.

This should leave you with 150 delay weapon, plenty of Def, +22 Evasion, +4 Agility, and +4 Vitality (assuming you have a fortune egg) - Before Food. Obviously you don't NEED all +1s of all this stuff, but the non +1 bone doesn't have evasion, so keep that in mind. But I understand that blowing 200-250k isn't exactly in everybody's abilities... If you had that kind of gil to throw around, you might not be doing the BCNM in the first place.


What to do:
When you enter the BC, run up to the ramp, and start spelling up. Food, Protectra, Shell, Aquaveil, EnThunder, Rest.
Rest up to 100% MP. Get up. Engage the far right Crab (one of the easy crabs) - Don't get aggro yet, just stay just within casting range. Get ready for a synchronous cast. 2 should cast bind on the Heavy Metal Crab and the Metal Crab you're not attacking, the 3rd should pop the engaged metal crab with slow at the same time. The 1st crab should die before the other 2 un-bind. Attack the other Metal Crab next, keeping the Heavy Metal silenced. Try to keep the 2nd Metal crab slowed and paralyzed. But again, with every cast of any spell, thats 1-6 dmg (6-40% of its total HP) you're not doing.
Now the 2nd is dead. Move on to Mr hometown, Heavy metal Crab himself. Don't worry about Dia, Bio, Poison, or any other DOT spell, they all do 0 damage per, and just wastes your MP, and time you could be attacking. Keep this punk Silent, Slow, Paralyzed, and blinded. Keep yourself cured, you've probably used a Hi-Potion or two by now. About now you're EnThunder will start wearing off, recast it before it does. Once everybody is cured, and the mob debuffed. Start wailing (This is where a Thief/War would voke and Perfect Dodge), and try not to stop to re-apply anything unless he drains it back. 25 HP is NOT a lot, and with 3 attackers, doing 0-2 dmg per strike, 1 strike every 2 seconds, This guy can die in as little as 8 seconds. He will not stop draining, and he uses shell which will make your EnThunder almost worthless, which is why you need to keep him as debuffed as possible. He can't drain what he doesn't hit.

I assume 3RDM/NIN is decided as best PT setup?

preps: EVASION equip. cast Blink. Have yag drinks and a pie or two. a few Hi-pots for emergencies is always good. IF one person dies, your chances of winning go down significantly.
Keep up en-Anything. NO Blazespikes. Sheesh.

steps:
1)One person bind LeftCrab, the other Two be sure the HMCRAB is bound- if he's bound quick enough, cast paralyze on the RightCrab.
2)Everyone attack the RightCrab.
3)Work on silencing HMCRAB before RightCrab falls.
4)Paralyze LeftCrab after RightCrab dies, keep MP refresh up with your drinks, and kill the LeftCrab while keeping HMCRAB silenced, paralyzed, and your Party healed.
5)Start on HMCRAB, at best you can do 4 dmg to him with your dualwield- Remember to keep him Silenced and Paralyzed, hopefully with your evasion- he won't be able to drain.



A thing to remember: These lower level BCNMs are a Bit more based off equipment than skill. It doesn't matter if you have all the skill in the world, you Need to have that Astral ring for the MP boost- face it, you don't have a sub job. You Need Evasion+ and you need to dual wield some daggers- Beestinger and Platoon are best choice- any knife with a delay under 180 should be fine though. a Low delay sword might possibly work okay as well....



A Few quick questions though:
1) Can the mobs Drain off avatars?
(Could you use 3 summoners to do this?)

2) Do multi-hit WSs do more than 1dmg?
(In two minutes, you'll get more than 100% TP I'm sure, does Double Swing, Double Thrust, Fast Blade, or Tachi:Enpi, or Blade:Retsu(Paralyzes enemy..) for examples)

3) War/Nin for dd if multi-ws work, just use weapons that have enchantments, or batteries for spark sword or whatnot. It could be worked out. Might get more bang for your buck.

4) Would other job ablities be worth considering?
MP loaded redmage using Chainspell casting say dia/stone/water etc. anything that will land and do 1dmg. Jump with dragoon (but you also have the 2nd hitter, Wyvern, and semi-effective Healing Breath for 6mp (barwater) when at 33%HP or less. :/ (A bit more than CureI) Oh, and then you have Sneak Attack for a thief- but three thief/ninjas working on evasion might possibly be able to get through it without being hit much, what level are sleep bolts? blind bolts? I'm sure it could be worked out... anyone know more?

5) Has anyone effectivly skillchained / magic bursted with these things? :/ Burning Blade -> Fast Blade for example? I wonder if that does a bonus 1 damage or if perhaps more than just 0-2dmg. And what about the magic burst part?

Congratulations, Somoz and others, on developing a strong strategy based on RDM plus NIN/WAR. Inspired, I've levelled my NIN past 10 just so that I can do this BCNM as RDM/NIN.

But now I'm there, and studying this battle carefully, I don't fully understand what /NIN brings to it and wonder whether the strategy can be refined even further.

Presumably, the RDMs sub /NIN to take advantage of dual wield; but (surely) DW1 simply adds all of the weapon stats together? According to posts in the NIN forum, reduction in delay doesn't appear until DW2 at NIN level 25. As far as the stats themselves go, DMG is unimportant. The Beestinger offers +DEX and +AGI but is "rare"; Beestinger and Platoon Dagger both have delay 150. So Beestinger + Platoon Dagger gives a double attack (and two En-spells if they both hit) every (150+150)=300 time units. This produces exactly the same damage over time as a Beestinger alone. So the extra weapon slot could surely be used to increase some other stat important for this fight, such as ACC or EVA. Here's an extreme example: equip Tropical Punches +1 to add +12 ACC; the drawback with this is the 480 base delay on Hand-to-Hand weapons -- you'd hit every time, but a lot more slowly! More practically, a Decurion's Dagger (DLY=178, ACC+2) will increase the time between swings by 10%, but might make up for that by allowing you to hit more often. Then again, since keeping the Heavy Metal Crab silenced is a key factor for success, it might be worth equipping Silence Daggers (+1) [or even better, a Hushed Dagger, if you can find an alchemist to make them!] Any views?

To round off thoughts on different weapon choices, does anyone know whether the "additional effect" on the Spark Dagger (+1) really does its additional damage on these crabs? Or whether that additional damage stacks with En-spells (easily tested outside the BCNM)? If so, this would add 50% to the damage done by a Platoon Dagger at a small extra delay.

Then again, if my thought that Beestinger+Platoon Dagger does no more damage over time than does Beestinger on its own, why sub /NIN at all? I see others using the RDM+NIN strategy have used RDM/WHM and RDM/THF. /WHM gives Barwatera to add some protection to the NIN and save the other RDM casting Barwater, in addition to "Magic Defence Up I". /THF gives the "Physical Evasion Up I" trait.

I appreciate that this may be gilding the lily -- the strategy plainly works well -- but I'd appreciate responses, even if only to tell me I've got it all wrong.

Again, my thanks to Somoz and others who have developed this strategy for sharing it with us.

Hi, I was the Nin/war on 6 of the occasions Somoz talks about. It would be possible as far as i can see to do this without the nin sub for rdm. But from what ive experianced you do NOT want /thf. The bonus to evasion would be barely noticable at that level and you DO NOT want the crab hitting the rdms at all. Hitting rdm's almost always ends up in him draining to full life. Other then that /whm is not a bad choice, although in this case your focus is on hitting with your dagger and not so much Barwatera.

As for the weapons, I actually used a Decurions dagger because there were no platoon daggers in stock. Also a poison dagger (which does nothing don't use it ^^). The silence dagger on the other hand is something I thought about using as well, but u do not want to rely on that. The enfeebling rdm should always be watching for silence to wear off and recast as soon as it does. You do not want waterga to be cast.

On a note for those Tanking Nin/War's out there as well since most of the points are about the RDM side. You must be very quick with all your abilities to keep hate on you. You must also pay attention before the 2 easier crabs are dead. Many times one of the rdm's will get hate from the Heavy Crab before the smaller ones are dead. It is better to provoke the Heavy Crab if this happens as 1. The smaller ones dont hit the rdm's as hard. and 2. If you kill the smaller crab in 15 secs, thats 15 more seconds you will NOT be able to pull off the rdms. The second focus is very important. Keep Utsusemi up as much as you possibly can, as his drain attack is VERY irritating. My last point of advice is to ignore atk/str items and focus on DEX. As a mithra im already stacked in this department, but I find the reason I keep hate in this battle so well is the damage I do from critical hits. Critical hits are a tanks BEST friend in this battle.

P.S. For the person who wrote about the mnk/war strat. That sounds like it worked well for you but there is one distinct difference between the 2 stats. There is no 2 hour abilities used in this BCNM. As a party of mnk/war you would have to wait 2 hours between each fight. I have done three fights in less then 45 mins, and most of that time is spent running back to the BCNM circle ^^

We went in as Mnk/War. Each of us attacked one crab. I attacked the Heavy Metal Crab and later, then the two other Monk's finished the other crabs, they helped me with the Heavy Metal Crab. We had very unique Equipment and we had all Cougar baghnakhs, Cotton hachimaki, Cotton Dogi +1, Warrior's Belt and Cotton sitabaki.
Everybody used directly at the beginning his 2 Hours ability Hundred Fists.

We three had each two hi-potion's with us, but we only needed one of them. The two, who attacked the "normal" metal crab used Meat mithkabob and I used a blackened newt.

We got these:
platoon dagger
bronze ingot
bettle quiver
mannequin body
mannequin hands

We made the new record on the Hades server. We killed the crabs within 2 Minutes and 44 Seconds. The old record was 5 Minutes and 7 Seconds, so we were much faster than the others.

We are playing on the Hades server. Our names are Medtoa, Cloudts and Danys. We are all
german and we have a german Linkshell with the name Darkfighter.

I've done this BC 12 times now, 10 of which were wins. The manequin body is 100% drop rate from what I've seen, sell anywhere from 400k-700k on Odin. Recently I've seen the manequins hands drop twice, like 2 out of the last 6 that I've done. I think they may have added it in the last update but not sure.
I'm not gonna bother talkin about every pt set-up I went through, but I will tell about the best;
nin/war, food: Jack-o-lanterns
rdm/nin#1[healer], food: Rolanberry pie, yag drinks
rdm/nin#2[enfeebler(me)], food: Rolanberry pies, yag drinks
Step1: Eat pies outside BC, rest up (won't need max mp if you're lvl 21+).
Step2: enter BC, buff up. Rdms cast protect (one rdm casts protect on nin), shell (other rdm casts shell on nin), barwater, enthunder. Aquveil could be usefull, cause rdms might get a few spell interuptions. Blazespikes does 0 dmg always, or at least from what I've seen. Tried usin it 1st 3 runs, waste of time and mp. After those buffs, rdm eat yag drinks and rest up. Nin casts utsusemi, and eats a jack-o.
Step3: CHARGE!! All 3 run up to the lip of the circle, rdm#1 binds the left metal, rdm#2(me) silences heavy and keeps it silenced through the whole battle, nin vokes heavy. all attack right metal.
step4: After right metal dies, all attack left metal (which might be beating the rdms @$$ by now that cast bind on it). Nin will have to voke heavy and the one all are fighting, so the left crab might get to have some free hits before it's squashed.

Don't bother casting utsusemi this whole time, you'll most likely suffer interuption, and even if you do make the cast, 2 crabs on you is gonna tear away those shadows in seconds.

Step5: Heavy metal...this guy can be one mean SOB. This is the only semi-hard part of the battle.
As soon as left metal dies, nin casts utsusemi and uses every hate tool he has (voke, kurayami, and daggers :P) to keep it off the rdms. Rdm#2 enfeebles heavy with paralyze and slow (nin should have it blinded with kurayami, dia and bio are useless). If enfeebs wear of, cast them again without hesitation, ESPECIALLY silence. Heavy really likes to cast waterga as soon as silence wears off, which is devestating, but you might get lucky and get hit with blind. Rdm#2 cures. If heavy goes drain crazy don't panic, it happens.
Nin keep shadows up, rdms keep enfeebs and enthunder up and you should have np beating heavy.
Step6: Run over to the middle of the BC and open that big juicy treasure chest! :D

Important things to keep in mind through the whole battle: Keep heavy silenced, keep enthunder up, one rdm cures, other rdm enfeebs and cures other rdm + back up cures the nin, nin keeping hate on heavy.

Our 1st run we set the record at...{hmmm.}{I don't remember}, I'll find out and come back for edit.
Second run we did even better and beat our own record.
Third time heavy put up metalic body, which was a bit of a delay, so we didn't beat the previous record. With enthunder bein the only thing doin any real dmg, nin couldn't hold hate and rdms got drained a few times (one drain brings heavy back to full hp in most cases).

Good luck to anyone trying to do this! For 20 b-seals, 400-700k ain't bad :)

A couple of my LS m8's felt it was time to try something new, so we decided on this BCNM. Using your strat, we took it 3/3 and plan on doing these again in the future.

Yo somoz, Yes this is the best BCNM ever. So easy and the drop rate is 100%. I have done this with somoz, i think 7 times now. All times was the rdm/nin Healer. And all time we got the body And two times hands drop. i have made about 2mil on the 3times i have done this, it is clearly a REALLY good bcnm. And this guide has it all Rate up! Are record is like 4mins 56 secs set by me ^^ Edit: somoz forgot to put: Everyone MUST!!!!! use daggers.Best daggers with lowest delay are Platoo dagger and Bee Stinger.

me and two other buddies went in as three mnks, first time we died because we didnt have a strategy. Second time we go and buy three hi-potions each, just in case, what we did was they would be on the heavy metal, and I would be on the metal. I kill metal they kill heavy then all three gang up on third, turns out it worked, 2:32 seconds new record on remora, and we didnt use the potions. Now yesterday we go in do it again see that we have the record still, and this time we knock em out in 2:13. Our names our Malic Hadriel and Evangeline on remora server, send a shout!

We didn't really use food, just Barwatera, Enthunder, Blink, Bind, Silence and a lot of curing.

Of course I gave my life for the second fight with Benediction. But the RDM's came out fine. =)

We went with
NIN/WAR (friend)
NIN/WAR (friend of friend)
RDM/NIN (me, with dual Platoon Dagger)

We only did one run, but our strategy was the same as the one my friend did just earlier, which he was was an incredibly easy win...

Well, it was. Standard buffs, Enthunder on myself, Yagudo Drink, NINs eat Jack'o Lanterns. Friend vokes and kites Heavy Metal (and aggros one Metal crab) while I Silence Heavy Metal. Meanwhile other NIN vokes the other Metal Crab, which we tear into, while I am casting debuffs on Heavy Metal and throwing the kiting NIN light heals. We grab the second Metal Crab and kill that just as quickly.

Then we get to Heavy Metal, where I refresh Enthunder. Silence is crucial, as its Waterga is unpleasant, but otherwise you are simply blink-tanking it between 2 NINs. We won before my Yag Drink wore off :O

As for the reason for me to sub NIN, he only said "well, 5% delay reduction is better than nothing, you're the damage dealer :P"

Other notes - we decided not to try Binding the second Metal Crab, because we weren't sure whether we would have time to throw another provoke on it, and one of those smacking me around would be trouble. Also, I did let one Waterga slip and it did about 80 damage. I didn't experience any resists on normal debuffs (Paralyze, Slow, Blind) and they seemed to help greatly.

What about 3 RDM/SMN with fast daggers (like beestinger or so), evasion-equipment (+22 is possible) and evasion food (jack-o-lantern for additional +10 eva) and some mp-drinks (melon / grape juice or yagudo drink).

The RDMs cast Enthunder (so the do double damage on the physical attacks) and BlazeSpikes (so they do damage, when the crabs hit them).

After that they use Bind (so they can fight the crabs one for one) / Slow (so they won't attack very often) / Paralyze (some hits get canceled) / Blind (even if they attack, the won't hit) and Silence (no spells).

After that they cast carbuncle and start to melee the crabs. With a pet, a double-damaging (or better: double hitting) weapon and spikes to deal additional damage if the crabs attack, they should be able to kill them rather fast.

For the buffs, debuffs and carby every RDM/SMN needs 75 MP and for the rest of the fight carbuncle will drain 2MP/Tick, so the avatar will be around for 50 ticks or so + the ticks the RDMs get back from the juices.

Anyone know if Sneak Attack could break their defenses?

Also, a good idea might be 3 thieves using 2 hours so no draining. Can't repeat for a while but still could be effective.

I'll post more late, right now it's late so I'll put the general idea.The abvoe posting has great information, problem is it's jumbled. Quick points:Weapon damage doesn't matter, you'll always hit for 1. RDM are vital because Enspell will give you an addition 1 damage. This alone makes RDM a DD for this BCNM. Drain is not a spell it's an effect. Sometimes when the Heavy hits it drains HP, this is very frustrating when you've almost killed him and he drains to full health. With that in mind a NIN or THF tank is needed, the less the tank gets hit the better. The idea about potions to heal himself is good. Any job can steal hate with a cure when you hit for 1 damage only

First off, Metal Crabs are EXTREMELY weak. Granted they got the highest DEF and Magic DEF in the world, but meh. They don't have 25 HP, not even close. Can't be more than 15, and personally I'd say 10 each. The Heavy Metal Crab has about 35 HP, and better def, you'll hit 0's alot more on him.
We did it three times, setup was,
Taru Mnk/war <--me!
Taru Rdm/whm
Hume Rdm/war

We all used Tavzania Tacos, and the rdm's had Yagudo Drinks. I can't say exactly how they rdm's were equipped, but the taru was wearing bone harness set, and hume one had on lizard. This based from appearence only, no idea on weapons, I don't think I checked them at all. I was wearing All Cotton Gi set, Metal Knuckles, Stamina Ringx2, Warrior Belt+1, Dhamahl mantle.

We buffed with Barwatera, Shell, and Protect. Both rdms used Enthunder.

I provoked the Heavy Metal Crab, the rdm/war provoked the left one and cast silence on Heavy Metal and rdm/whm cast Bind on Heavy metal, then we all killed the right Metal crab, then left one, and finally Heavy Metal Crab.
First battle went off without a hitch, I don't think they drained us once.
Second battle the Metal Crabs died easily, but they Heavy Metal Crab kept draining over and over and I used Hundred Fists.
Third battle went just like first, although Heavy Metal Crab drained once, but he was only hurt about 5hp at the time, so it didn't matter, and he never drained again.

It is extremely hard to keep hate in this fight. Since you can't hit above 1dmg, you can't tank via damage, and although they don't hit hard at all, about 10-15 each attack, and Waterga was about 30 (had Barwatera and Shell up) the rdms got aggro from curing. I lost hate about 15 seconds after voking. We spent probably 40mins on this, about 10mins in each fights, the remaining 10mins was just running back to the Burning circle.

Just going to add a bit more. Me (Mordakai), Dreng, and Poki did this agian yesterday. Same setup as last time. This time though Dreng lent me his courage rings and we ate +acc food. This time I was noticeing alot more 1 damage hits on the crab with my platoon dagger. We flew through the first two rounds and decided to try to break the record on the third. We ran in guns blazing after buffing and drinks. We only had a little trouble on the Heavey Metel crab because of Drain but Poki Hundered Fisted it and it went down. We got the record on Shiva with
2min 59 secs ^^

To add on to what Poki said, the other Red Mage used a Platoon Dagger, and I used a Beestinger. Either of these daggers are great because of the low delay, naturally.

Something I would like to point out, is to not skimp on armor at all, and to wear as much plus Vitality or Agility as possible. I was wearring two Eremites (+2 int) rings, partly because I lent Poki here my Stanima Rings, and also because I wanted to land Bind effectively on the Heavy Metal Crab, and when I pulled hate I took far more than I would have liked to, about 15-25 per hit. The first time I did this BCNM we had three Red Mages and one didn't wear any armor since they thought they wouldn't get hit, but the pulled hate, and went down quickly, the other one and myself followed.

As far as food goes I think that boosting Vitality and Defense is crucial, I tried eating a Mithkabob for our third fight, as my Taco had worn off and I wanted to see if there was an effect, there was not however. With or without the Mithkabob, I would occasionally hit for one point with my dagger, with the enspell doing most of the damage, hitting for the one point almost constantly. I wouldn't bother with accuracy food either, I didn't notice myself missing alot, and I had no accuracy boost and a mere +4 dex from my taco.

The other Red Mage and I tried a few spells to see if they worked, Blazespikes does no damage, Bind and Silence both work great, Bio does no damage but does lower the attack damage, Paralyze stuck but the crab never lost a turn to the spell, and Slow was heavily resisted. Stone does do a point of damage, so I guess in the event of an emergency a Red Mage could potentially Chainspell + Stone x 35 for the kill, although it costs 280 mp to do so. I did not try to see if Dia lowered the defense much, and I guess I forgot to try Blind (woops).

I remember you saying something about fighting the smaller crabs Barefisted Poki, something about it being more effective than using the Knuckles on them?

ok well the last update (May 2005) this bcnm got a lot harder. we (Me, Sonadora, Miraa) used to win almost every time (about 8-9/10) but since the update we are 0/3.

we kept the same tactics, brought the same items as we always do (5x hi potions, 1x yag drink, 1x fish mihthkabob for tank (Me), 1x meat mithkabob for the mnk (Sonadora), and 1x ether and 1x yag drink for the rdm (Miraa)) but havent won yet >.>

i hear best setup is rdm/nin, rdm/nin, nin/war

nin/war tanks heavy while other 2 rdm/nin takes out crabs
