Description

Master, you have to help us, kupo!

Have you heard of the Feast of Swords?

It's a Far Eastern festival that celebrates the health and growth of boys. People decorate with huge flags in the shape of fish, and dress their sons in fancy armor, kupo. There are also lots of magical, yummy goodies to eat, of course...

Oops, talking about festivals always distracts me, kupo!

After the slight hiccup with the Doll Festival, the M.H.M.U. decided to hold a festival that appealed to the male half of the adventuring population. We sought the advice of a distinguished samurai, and began preparing for the Feast of Swords, kupo.

Our samurai adviser kindly brought in some sets of legendary armor from the Far East to lend an authentic feel to the event. That's when our problems began, kupo...

Someone--or something--broke into our vaults and stole the suits of armor, kupo!

Now the very same criminals have donned their ill-gotten costumes, infused them with their tainted auras, and are rampaging around the countryside!

We took the bad news to the samurai and this is what he said, kupo: "I borrowed those suits of armor from the noble Genji family, a famous line of samurai. While I doubt that any blade could even raise a scratch, any damage to these rare and valuable artifacts could develop into a diplomatic nightmare. However, I believe that the evil entities corrupting the armor can be driven out through the use of specially blessed wooden katana. There is no other way to solve this dilemma."

We must retrieve those suits of armor intact before the Feast of Swords is over. I don't want to be looking over my shoulder for retribution-seeking ninja assassins from the Far East, kupo!

The M.H.M.U. put the festival preparations on hold to order a mountain of wooden katana.

Please help us, kupo! Talk to an M.H.M.U. moogle to get your weapon, and then receive a special blessing from the nomad moogles outside town. Take the fight to those thieving scoundrels!

The peace of Vana'diel--and the fate of the moogles--rests on your shoulders, kupo!

Participation

-Speak to the moogles in three main nations to receive Wooden Katana.

-Characters will be eligible to participate in the event by talking to the moogles around the three main nations.

-Players wishing to rejoin the event must speak to the moogles once more.

-A level restriction will be imposed during event participation. Please be aware that any equipment that exceeds the level restriction will be unequipped automatically.

-Characters who are KO'd during event participation will not lose experience points.

-Characters will be unable to attack or be attacked by normal monsters while the level restriction is in effect.

  • This event is scheduled to begin at 17:00 on April 27 and end at 0:00 on May 9 (PDT).

Fun..

Oh, and by the way the Mithra is not impossible to kill to whoever said, lol. I killed it and I think we got a fish and I think that was it. That was TOTALLY lame, because the mithra was killing everyone in one hit or so. But what was fun, as on rdm I buffed and I mean buffed haste stoneskin prot/shell IV spikes, regen, refresh and subbed whm for cure and used I think Rolanberry Pie for MP+50. It was insane I was soloing armors lol. Well, sometimes they ran away and sometimes they didn't. I also brought along Hi Potion +3 as they were cheap and helped alot when they did the move bringing you down to 1 HP XD. All in all, was fun to watch them hit me for 0 dmg muahaha. :b~!
Again?

Is this feast the first and last time or will they repeat it.

I hope I want the katana ;;
Rumor of Republican Akutan won?
# May 26 2005 at 3:41 PM Rating: Decent
After this event I talked to some people, that were telling me that some people saved up a pile of aura after getting the hard wood kitana and obtained a Reublican Akutan that you would normally get if you were Rank 10. It is a lv. 1, that looks like a Tunica or doublet family. Increases Crystal drops and 15% movement? I also noticed a wide range of people wearing this on them, after the event. If this was just an event to get a hard wood kitana why would SE bother? Movement increase only made sense chasing these things around. Some people wouldn't even say, so if there was this as a grand prize, respond, im sure many would want to know. Secrets in this game kept by others to make a sales is so dirty :(

ok here is a few questions you might wanna think about b4 doin this quest. "am I f***ing insane?" "do I wanna waste my time and get something I'll NEVER use?" "why don't I just get the wooden katana which requires absolutly no time consumtion and go do something with my life" "have I seen the sun"
after thinking about these go get ur wooden katana and say f*** this I'm gonna go do something fun. like tarutaru strip clubs, asking GM's for money (bad idea, I've tried it), pissing off ppl in Jueno :D. those are actually fun
if you haven't alrdy relized if ur on teh Asura server I am the infamous Gordanfreeman who f***ed up the dunes FOREVA!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those that want to try the quest at the very last moment possible..

Talk to your moogle in one of the three main towns to obtain your Wooden Katana (Damage:1 Delay:450, Lv1 All Jobs). Then zone out to the outdoor areas, and talk to the Nomad Moogle to recieve your level cap. Vital to the quest, unless you have the level cap, you won't be able to attack the Armors. While in level cap, no "normal" mobs will aggro you, same, you can't attack them.

Easiest place to do it is in my opinion West Ronfaure, due to it's relatively small size (compared to Sarutabaruta or Gustaberg). I noticed that the Ubuginu (Tarutaru) Armor likes to run around the zone from San d'Oria to mountains, whereas the Tatenashi (Hume) circles the mountain around the Outpost. Hachiryu (Galka) runs from behind the Outpost to La Theine zone. Tsukikazu (Elvaan) I only saw randomly. These were the most common locations I encountered them.

Landed 16 hits total plus one killing blow (means it was your hit that made the enemy fall to the ground - shows in yellow/golden font in the log). Enough aura to obtain Hardwood Katana (Damage:5 Delay:450, Lv1 All Jobs). Other prizes are Mochi Cakes which turn you into a little boy of a specific race, depending on Cake eaten (amount and type recieved = amount of hits landed on a race Armor, unless you have enough aura to get a Hardwood).

Damage is obtained via the "additional effect", basic does 0 damage. MNK is fun, because of Hundred Fists - if the Armor is standing, just getting in range will make it aggro, and you can beat him up.
Two things - when following, do NOT pull out your weapon. That's timedown #1. When he gets out of range, you hide your weapon. Timedown #2. So draw your weapon only once you see him aggro you. And the moment the stops attacking you, do the same, hide your weapon, and start running after him.

Once done, go back to your main moogle in town, and trade the Wooden Katana back to him to recieve your prize.

Have fun!

what is a "killing blow"??? Is this a weapon skill? I killed an armor and didn't get anything so I must be doing something wrong.

This event kind of sucks. In involves the weakest part of this game which is running and running and running and running and running.....

edit: Killing blow is simply killing it by hitting it with Katana... You must then trade your old Katana into the Event Moogle inside the city... Now back to running around...boring!!!

I don't know, but it can't be a WS, for the following reasons

1. chars don't get ws till lvl 3-5

2. first WS for "great katana" is "tachi: enpi"

but I will try and find out when this years even starts (2006)
Check Points
# May 07 2005 at 6:20 AM Rating: Decent
About where the armors run. From what I've seen they have checkpoints that they stop at in a certain order. And they all seem to run around randomly but always get to the next check point. Meaning the armor can come from the West and stop at point "A", but when it comes back around to point "A", it does not have to go the exact same path. It might go east and come back to the point. Just my two cents. Hope it helped anyone who is STILL doing this.

Choco
# May 06 2005 at 3:31 AM Rating: Decent
Yes I meant that you could ride a chocobo from places that offer them with the zones like Plateu and heights. Once you leave a zone your cap comes off even while on a choco. So you can ride one but you can't travel around on one with the lv cap.

This is just impossible.

I log in and I've got an average of 10 minutes to find an armor on low life, survive it's Edge of Death, and kill it without anyone else sneaking the last hit in.

After about that time, I drop from the game and lose my level cap status, wherein someone else kills the armor and I have to start over finding another one on low life.

Edit: Ooooh yes. After a couple of hours of chasing Ubuginu, I had an hour of repeated disconnects and dropouts. I finally made it to Ubuginu - untouched since I last saw it - and Hundred Fisted it for a second time.

After the fourth hit I got an "The Ubuginu Armor falls to the ground." message. Nobody else was around, so I'm taking this to mean it as my kill.

I Traded in my Wooden Katana and got a Hardwood, so it must've been attributed to me. I wonder why it "fell to the ground" though? Wouldn't it have said that I'd defeated it?

no, because it's not you who killed it, it was the "en-light", remember, your katana is not doing any damage, it's the same as a mob dying from dia or something else

Not being a RDM I didn't know this beforehand.

I would have thought the "En" line of spells causing the kill would credit the kill to whoever struck the attack using the "En", since they'd still be hitting it to do that damage.

Ah well, I learn something new every day.

# May 04 2005 at 9:07 PM Rating: Decent
with the lv cap on you can still ride a chocobo, you must get off to attack but you can still ride on.

Actually that is incorrect afaik, since you would have to zone into a city to get the choco, and zoning turns off the lv cap status.

Now I haven't tried with the Nomad Moogle, but (also afaik) you cannot speak with any NPC's while riding choco, therefore you can't activate the lv cap status while riding. If SE made an exception to this rule for this event, I was not aware of it.

It's possible that you can rent a boco after getting the level cap status in areas like Tahrongi Canyon.

If so, this is probably both relatively useless for the time it'd save, and costly for the money it'd take.

Event long over by now, but they'll probably run it again next year, so I just wanted to say that likely wouldn't work, since even in Tahrongi Canyon and the other primary crag areas, the level cap was 1, and you'd need to be level 20 to ride a choco from a crag, unless they made special dispensation for the event.

I'm not even going to try to go into my story with these things save to say i landed killing blow on all four and only got Hardwood Katana. Maybe you can get more if you kill all four AFTER you get hardwood, I dunno.

However, I did notice one thing. When you talk to the Nomad Moogle with Hardwood Katana equipped, he says something completely different from when you talk to him with either Wooden Katana or any other weapon equipped.

Is there a possible meaning to this? Meh, like I would know ><;;

Armor tactics
# May 03 2005 at 9:49 AM Rating: Decent
Okay, first off, I found the best job for this event to be MNK/WHM. WHM sub for healing, just pop a Rolanberry Pie and you can cure yourself several times without stopping to heal and losing sight of the Armor. MNK because Hundred Fists DOES work with this katana. Just wait until the armor is down to 10% health or so, then wait until he stops and hit HF right away and start hacking. This is especially good if you are competing with other ppl for the killing blow. As for tracking these guys without RNG subbed, just make sure you know the area very well. Areas with a lot of obsticles force them to take weird paths. I fought all of mine in West Ron, and it was suprisingly easy to keep up with them. For one, all of the hills force the armors to take zig-zag paths, while you can skirt right around the foot of the hill. Just keep an eye on the armor while he is running. If he is running generally East, and then suddenly turns South a bit, he will probably turn back to the East, so just keep headed straight. It will help you keep up with them. Also, while you fight, AS SOON AS YOU SEE THE ARMOR PUT AWAY HIS KATANA, stop attacking. If you just keep attacking he will run out of range, and then you will have the delay of puting away your weapon while he is running from you, which will almost certainly make you lose him. As far as the spots that they stop at, they are all the same spots, it is just random as to which on they will go to next, so if you die, just go to a spot that you fought him at and he will eventually come back. Like I said, I like West Ron because it is a relatively small area, and I found it pretty easy to find/track these guys. I soloed one last night, go him down to 2 HP, then died. Luckily it only took me a few minutes to find him and no one had killed him, so hit him twice and the hardwood katana was mine. About the theories of even better items, I hope it is true. SE has shown a lot of depth in recent events, excluding the Easter event, which drove me nutty. I hated stepping into town and all I see are shouts about eggs, lol. Free eggs, at that, which ppl paid up to 10k+ for. >.< Oh well, sorry for the long post, just wanted to get all this out there.

1. The killing blow is the only one that counts.
2. Any zone's level cap for the event is one.
3. You cannot have more than one Hardwood Katana.
4. You cannot ride chocobos when capped.
5. You cannot force the armor to engage you by normal means.
6. The only way to force the armor to engage is to draw/or have drawn your weapon while within a close range.
7. The armor fights for a short time and then runs. It will always run.
8 Direct damage does nothing. Only enlight damages them.
9. You will not receive a prize without a killing blow.
10. You cannot damage the armor with the Hardwood Katana.
I used SAM/RNG, not for anything but samurai and great katanas just go together. Plus I decided "track" would be helpful. Certain armor run in different ways. You might want to wear your nation aketons if you have them. (Lv 1 I think) The armor runs fast. If you don't feel like heading to your HP every time it uses edge of death and risk losing the kill, I suggest getting some Pamama au Lait's (regen 3 per tick) and making a macro for them. That way if you see it readying Edge of Death you can pop one on. It will save your butt, guaranteed.
RE: Info
# May 03 2005 at 8:19 PM Rating: Decent
just a small correction. the amors will run randomly (and for a random period of time) and then stop for about 10 seconds (maybe less), during that time, anything that comes near it's detection range (it aggroes by lv cap 1, not normal lv 1), it will attack you. so if you're chasing these it's a good idea to for a party or alliance, and have rangers spread around the area, predicting it's movements. that way, when the armor stops, it will aggro whoever's nearby. since when you get aggro you prevent it from running away, you make enough time for the rest of your alliance to run towards the armor.
another correction. yes, only the final blow counts, but that's only towards the hardwood katana. all other blows count towards mochi. it's a good idea to do mnk/rng every 2 hours, that way you can use hundred fists (it's hilarious, and it gets you the 12 hits for a certain race in no time). after that change to whm/rng, since you have the most mp that way and g-katana skill really doesnt matter
RE: Info

I had the Hardwood Katana, and my LS decided they all wanted to take a crack at it. I used Sam/Rng, and I bought selbina milk because we're not talking about a lot of hit's here. Anyway, after fighting the Ubuginu armor for upwards of 6 hours I can verify that drawing your weapon will get you engaged more often then not. Most times if you are just short of catching him standing still, he'll start running. BUT if you draw your weapon within a set radius of him, he'll engage you.

I asked several JP players and have been able to find no evidence of the Redwood Katana, or any other rewards for that matter. I HOPE that someone else has better luck than me in locating other prizes.

I had 1 kill on my wooden katana, traded it and got the hardwood. I now have 2 kills (ubuginu) on it, and if I figure out some secret code (/\ /\ \/ \/ <><> BA Sel Str) I'll post it.

Happy Hunting

Good post with a couple mistakes:
Re. 6. You do not actually have to draw your weapon while within range. As long as you are participating in the event (have talked to the Nomad Moogle while wearing Wooden Katana) it will aggro you if you are close enough.
Re. Nation's aketon only works while in that nation, doesn't work outside.

It certainly is different. The Armor aren't like normal mobs, they won't aggro even if you try to pull them with spells, they'll still run off on you. I'm not sure if they'll actually kill either, because the one I engaged (Tzukikazu) disengaged and ran off when I was down to 2hp. They run in circuits, so just heal myself and wait for it to come back, provided no one else gets him along the way. :P

Was wondering if anybody has tried to defeat all four of the armors one after the other. Meaning that you don't die, you don't go back and trade your katana after you defeat one. You just keep killing them over and over until all of them have fallen. Maybe then there might be a better version of the katana waiting for you to trade?

Let me know. Thanks

Hey.. this should be done as a sam/rng .. you have more GKatana skill & can track them.. & hell you still can be hasted by some one else if they are nice enough for buffs. & if ur doing it in a area with a craig u can ride a choco after them till they stop watch out for Edge of death its a AOE that lowers every1 to one hp.. nasty I think if u collect 3 hardwood swords you can trade them in.. its a theory havent tested them yet.. since it appears you can do it almost every area so i dont know
RE: moogle event info
# May 03 2005 at 1:28 AM Rating: Excellent
SAM doesnt help at all, even if you had godly g-katana skill, it's not the normal attack that does anything to the mobs. if you notice, even critical attacks hit for zero, it's the "en-light" that damages them, the after effect, and it always damages for 1. considering that, those mobs have around 100-500 HP, which means they're probably not high level. also, if areas are capped at lv 1, there's no way you can hop into a chocobo. and last, you cannot collect 3 hardwood katanas because they're rare, and you can only have one of any item rated "rare"

MNKRNG worked well for me and the trick to getting him to attack is wait for him to stop and run right to him til he attacks first ~~

pulling out your katana and charging apparently scares them and they start on that stupid chase again

Am I the only one annoyed by people who whine and cry about every event stinking?

I'm not saying that the Hardwood Katana, or the mochis or anything else is all that great of a prize, but cut SE some slack, they're trying.

I remember when someone in my party told me to take off my Dream Hat +1 because he thought it was stupid. Now I won't argue that for the time and money, it probably wasn't the best item ever. But I thought at the time it was cute. I mean who doesn't want to pull cookies from their hat at Christmas time? I had fun with it. And if you're crazy enough (like me) to go and spend 20k for a wacky event furnishing, armor, prize whatever, then you shouldn't complain that you got jipped.

So for all of you who think this or any prior event was stupid and/or a waste of time. Use some tact and keep it to yourselves, some of us appreciate the break from farming and leveling.
