SummaryExcavate the wyvern egg that lies beneath the Maze of Shakhrami. Protect it from the dragonslayers. WalkthroughNOTE: You need to be able to get into the Chateau d'Oraguille. You must be Rank 2 if you live in San d'Oria, or on the Rank 2-3 Mission or Rank 3 or higher for other nations. Go to Cargo Room A in Port San d'Oria and talk to Arminibit and Ceraulian. Then go to Bostaunieux Oubliette (the prison beneath Chateau d'Oraguille) and talk to Novalmauge. Then go to the Northwest room in the Cathedral and talk to Morjean. Oiheaurese will appear during the cutscene and ask you to bring back an egg. Buy a pickaxe (more than one to be safe) and head for the Maze of Shakhrami. Look for the excavation point at (G-7), (I-8), or (K-7) and start excavating until you get a Wyvern Egg. Once you find one, go back and talk to Morjean. Yachemidot will appear and offer you an option to hatch the egg. Yachemidot sends you on a new quest. In Meriphataud Mountains, at the eastern edge of Doragora's Spine is a ??? at (K-8). You'll have to travel around the north side of it and curve around. Trade the egg to it and you will trigger an event. Go back to San d'Oria and talk to Rahal in the Chateau in the Royal Knight's Quarters. The Royal Knight's Quarters is on the left as you enter the Chateau, it takes up the majority of (H-9). Rahal will then give you a key item: Dragon Curse Remedy. After that, you need to travel to Ghelsba Outpost. At (G-10) you will find a hut with a hidden door. Open this by forcing the lock, which will trigger a cutscene with a dragon named Cyranuce M Cutauleon. Defeat the dragon. I am having trouble starting the quest when i talk to the start npc he just tells me to leave im lvl 30war/15mnk i have the ultimate colletction so all the expansions however i am still on the free trial could that have something to do with it?

Just solo'd as a 68 Scholar/ 34 Red Mage. Stoneskin and Phalanx, and two Blizzard III, and two Blizzard II's,.. Over.

I'm in quite a conundrum. I'm trying to get the quest started and I happen to be the appropriate level and at the appropriate rank, yet Cerulian will not give me the quest. Can anyone help?

Hmmm. Did you find Mojean, in Northrn Sandy's Cathedral? I remember having to talk to him. :/ He's the first door on the, left, I wanna say.Behind the wall, by the bookshelf. But the main guy is in Port Sandy...Cargo rooms. You also need to talk to the Vampire in Bost-whatitsname, underneath the Chateau. It's been so long since I did this quest, lmao, the first job I unlocked as a matter of fact. If it helps any, you're welcome, and if it doesn't, I apologise.

When you talk to the Cerulean, listen to their conversation. They don't actually give you the quest, but once you've heard the conversation, you have to go talk to Novalmauge (the drain quest guy) in Bostoneaux Obiulette to start the actual quest.
Just soloed as 64WHM/32BLM, buffed up, used sleep, repose, drain and other dark spells. had 260mp and 600HP left

All they talk about is how foundamount (sp?) something or other. I've already down the parchment quest for foundamount to i know thats not it *sigh* very frustrated here....

I had trouble with starting this quest for a while, turns out I didn't have Rise Of Zilart Registered

Have you spoken with Novaulmague? (the drain scroll guy gives it after you talk to Cerulean.)
Just soloed this as a level 53 SMN. Used one Carby. Buffed self with Blink, Aquaveil, Protect and Shell; summoned Carby and used Shining Ruby. Cast Dia on the dragon, Carby took hate in two hits or so (I took no damage), used Slow and Paralyze (both stuck); waited a bit and then helped fight from behind (to avoid breath attacks etc). Used Poison Claw a few times and Glittering Ruby once (more for fun than anything), got staff skill-ups and won no problem; 500+ MP and Carby had about 25-20% hp. Yaaay. /dance :D

Ok, i just did this a few hours ago as a 52 blm/26 whm and its not as hard as many people are making it sound.

freeze- (if your feeling gutsy, since it takes so long to cast)
or
blizzard II-
after that, if your bind isnt back, elemental seal, sleep II.
and to make that fast and effective use this macro for it..

PS- if your using one of the mage classes that arent meant for soloing, id use a mage class 50+

So I'm guessing there's no level cap on the dragon? So, what level would you say would be good enough to solo him as a BLU/NIN??? I am currently a 30BLU/15NIN.
Another question I had is where is the best spot to mine for the wyvrn egg? I pretty much just started this quest (17/20 Jobs obtained, working on DRK, DRG, and SAM).

No cap, I'd say you could beat it with lvl 30 Blu /nin but might take a bit of effort. The Dragon is about level 40ish. I persoanlly would wait till at least 35 to try. But thats just me.

I was helping a level 30 friend do this quest(i myself was a lvl 40 drg at the time) decided i was going to give soloing the dragon a shot, unfortunately i only had rdm lvled to 16 but did it anyways. ended up kicking the dragons **** (on firesday) and the only item i used was a tav. taco. my lvl 30 friend sat and watched :)

Hey i was thinking about doing this sometime this weekend u think i could solo it (besides the dragon) i am a lvl 32mnk/16war mithra ?
I soloed it (except the dragon) As a 30 War/15 Mnk. Depending on where you end up excavating the egg in Shakhrami there's no real fighting at all other than the Dragon.

has anyone completed this quest after tosssing an egg? i have been trying to complete this quest FOREVER and i think i tossed the egg and now i cant find another one
do you have to be a certain rank in Sandoria to enter the chatue? Or can a Bastokan enter it?

Hey, I know Ive seen it before but I seem to be having trouble finding it now. There was a requirment to be able to redo the boss fight. I tried to go with my brother and solo it for him as a 75 smn and it wouldn't let me in.

I'm a returning player to ffxi. I decided to solo this dragon as a 37war/18mnk. I was not sure what to expect as it has been a few years since I unlocked drg. I purchased an icarus wing, 9 Hi-potion +3(they were 500 more than the hi-potion), 6 hi-potions and a Persikos Au Lait. I used rice dumpling as my food. Gear was Horror Voulge, Spike Necklace, 2 shield earrings, brass grip +1, Royal squire mufflers, Eisenbrust, Republic subligar, Eisenschuhs, nomad's mantle, centurion's visor, brave belt, venerer ring, and puissance ring. I am a galka so my HP with rice dumping and 2 shield earrings was 873. Defense was 151 and attack was 221. Had capped evasion and only +3 evasion from nomad's mantle.
Ate the dumpling and rested up before entering. Once in the battle, I popped my au lait. Engaged and when the dragon started to move I used Dodge. Before dodge wore off he attacked 31 times. He missed me 14 times and I got in 2 counters. After dodge was gone, he attacked 26 times. Missed 5 times, 3 counters and one parry. Damage taken was around 35-50 with crits approaching 90. Used chaos breath 3 times with varying damage. The first one was for 431 damage. After that I thought I could not win. However, the other 2 were for 163 and 280. Deadly drive was for a pathetic 68. Used all my potions but I did not touch mighty strikes or the icarus wing. Cleared the fight in 4:46 and ended up with 346hp to spare. Only used sturmwind twice and ended the fight with 99tp.
I added my damage up to be 2249. My HP lost: 2677.

I followed the quest to a T but the actual mining point are different. If you dont know there are different floors or levels in the maze. all the mining points for the egg are on the same floor as when you walk in. you might get lucky and just find the mining point right when you walk in. but for me it was the very last place i checked that had the mining point. it only spawns on or by the dino bones in the maze area. the maze it self is plit into different areas. so when you try to run straight to the far east area you will actually have to go down a level then back up. I went in as a 36whm/blm for warp and teleport when i finished. i only mined once and got the egg on first try. i did spend 1 hour running around looking for the spawn points though. certain points of the map you can only go one way and then you cant come back. so after the egg i did the other parts. i had a level 75 mnk help me kill the dragon once i was that far into quest he did all the work while i stood back to watch and now i am a dragoon

me as a DRG49/BLM and i pwned it in like under 1:30 mins lawl there was also a full drop it was so great i buffed up with ice spikes then i went into attack him (i did this with my my 30 but i was the only one fighting he was helping healing me) i got him to 1/2 health then i was at like 2/3 health then slept him and used 2 potions then used my 2hr and then used double thrust and did 270ish then hit him like 5 more times and raped him it was great
Just mined egg from the Buburimu entrance side. Excavation point was in the dragon skeletal remains. Note that the Buburimu entrance area is isolated from the canyon's entrance area by drop downs. So you can access the Buburima side from the Canyon side, just not vice-versa.

wtf are you smoking? WAR/WHM is a noob combo that i laugh XD RDM/NIN can solo a hell lot more than your wimpy WAR/WHM. Have you ever seen a RDM/NIN in action? I've seen a WAR/WHM in action and it's absolutely hilarious

I just walked my friend through this entire Quest, got up to Ghelsba Outpost and watched him enter the BC without me in it. I would try to select the Hut Door to enter the BC, but it wouldn't let me in. Am I missing something? Do I have to be on The Holy Crest to fight the Dragon with him?
yes you have to have the holy crest started.

i just soloed this dragon in 3 mins 49 seconds as a 58DRK/29NIN he hit me once with chaos breath for 32 other wise i used bio II and Poison II and they both stuck i used Vorpal Scythe once and was one hit away from using it again all in all i was very disappointed...
