Summary

The editor wants you to gather news articles from the reporters dispatched to each of the four districts of Windurst. In addition, he wants you to confirm the validity of the scoop reported by the reporter in Windurst Woods.

Walkthrough

Naiko-Paneiko of the Tarutaru Times (C-11) wants you to track down several reporters and get their story. They are located as follows:

Once you have spoken to all four reporters, head to the Lily Tower of the Inner Horutoto Ruins in East Sarutabaruta (J-7). Go to (G-9) and open the "Cracked Wall". Once you're through, follow the tunnels to around (G-7) or (G-8). There is a tunnel that is NOT on the map. Take that South and then West, to reach the "Mahagony Door" that you need. Examining it will confirm the news scoop and you can now return to Naiko-Paneiko to complete the quest.

Quest Series

This quest is part of a series of quests offered by Naiko-Paneiko. See the list below to find out which quest comes next.

what level?
# Jan 11 2004 at 10:22 AM Rating: Decent
i've got the quest but with all the talk of tough mobs n such i'm wondering wether it'd be suicidal to attempt it now. Anyone care to give an indication of what sort of level to attempt this. solo and in party. would be really helpful :)

I successfully solo'd it as my L8WHM but it came close a couple times as I ran into some Magiked Bones and a Baloon. Fortunately a higher level group came wandering by and saved my bum. If your careful about aggro you should be fine.

there will be many groups of gobs (thugs + weavers), and low level skeletons. possibly a balloon as well. If you see beady beetles, you're going the wrong way. i'd say maybe lvl 10 could solo this, or maybe a group of lower levels

Here is what I found out after I finally went to get the map :) If you still can't find it, go get the map.. it will be much easier. The thing is the Door is really at G-8, but it's not in the first area u went in.... Its actually in the second area of the Inner Ruins when u go through a crack door :)

When u first go in the inner Horutoto Ruins, u have to travel all the way down to where the big room is(with all the 6 gem charge thing forgot the real name)

When u first reach the big room, turn right and walk until the end of the path where there is a gen charge thing. If you face the thing, on the right hand side, there is a crack and it takes u into another area where it is rough like a normal tunnel.

The easist way I guess is always keep right on the path.. after a while, u will see three skeleton bones and a nice wall. walk till the end and follow the path.. always follow the right path until u reach another same wall. Keep walking and u will find your self in a round area with probably 3 gobs in it.. at its South west side, there is a passege... talk that route and u will find a Mahogany Door..... that's the right one that u have to check..

I started the quest by first going to the head editor and then collecting all the scoops. I then went to the j-7 tower and check the door and got "the door is firmly closed". So I went back to the head editor and then tried the door in the j-7 tower again and got the same message. When I returned to the head editor, the quest was still uncompleted...he still tells me to verify the scoop. I haven't been able to complete the quest now.

Important Addition
# Dec 08 2003 at 4:41 PM Rating: Good
There is a slight oversight in how the description of how to do the quest is written up here. After you have all 4 scoops i believe you need to check in with the editor, who tells you to go confirm the scoop at the mahogany door. Otherwise you dont get the "Cat Burglar's hideout confirmed" notice when you check it.

This step (checking in with the editor) you would always do if you were doing the quest without a guide (cause onc you have 4 scoops you think you are done), but its easy to skip if you are following the guide.

Actually, If memory serves, when you get the scoop from the reporter, says something to the effect of "A good reporter always verifies thier story" something along that line.

Lorkai is right. You are asked to verify the reporter's sources before speaking with the head news Taru.

I completed the quest by speaking with said Taru only twice: once to recieve the quest, and once to complete it (after having already verified the lead).

The Tunnel and door are located in G8 of Inner Horutoto Ruins (the area after the secret door).

How far into the cave area do you have to go? We've tried this quest several times at varying levels and never make it past the mobs. Bombs are nasty and were frequently jumped by multiple gobbies. It's getting very very frustrating.

It is not very far, really. It could take you about 15-20 minutes to get from the entrance of Horutoto to the door depending on whether you fight anything along the way or not.

Just keep on heading as right-most as possible, until you see a door. The Mahogany door is quite a large door, and is rather hard to miss.

As said in previous posts, just hug the right wall. ^^
Naiko-Paneiko location
# Nov 19 2003 at 7:06 PM Rating: Decent
Naiko-Paneiko is at C-11 in southern Windust Waters. Your map will have the Rhinostery and the Federal Magic Reserve on it if you are in the right place. If you are in Windurst Waters but don't see those places on your map then you need to head south, there are actually two maps for Windurst Waters.

-sorry for the previous post. My mistake.-

I'm having trouble finding Naiko-Paneiko after I've completed all the requirements for this mission. I've looked all over waters and cannot find him anywhere. Can anyone tell me where they found him after gathering all the scoops and going to the ruins?

Location of hidden Hallway
# Nov 07 2003 at 11:19 PM Rating: Good
First of all, a map of Horutoto REALLY helps, the quest is VERY easy to do, look it up on this site.

Second, I had a hard time follow other peoples instructions here once I actually got into the Inner Ruins. Finding the rough-walled cave area is fairly simple, and once you're there, look for a round dead-end room on your map in the corner of G-7. That's where you want to go. There's a tunnel from that room that's NOT on the map, but you'll see it once you're in that room. The doors are just down that tunnel, fairly simple.

Well, after many many many deaths, I finally tagged along a higher level and found the door and the path.

Here is the real deal:

You enter the Inner Ruins as listed. When you enter, you'll go along a hallway that will ultimately dump you into a larger room.

There are goblins and bats all over in here, usually.

Once you get in the bigger room, hang an immediate right and follow the wall until you come to a sort of cubicle. Clear the room if you need to. On the NORTH wall of this room is a secret door. Click it and enter a rough cavern tunnel.

You will work your way through bats and goblins until you come to what appears to be a building patrolled by skeletons. It's not a building and not part of the quest, although it is an area with a circular hallway and a "tip" (on the western wall).

Turn south, then west at the intersection, then south again, then west again. If you look at your map, you should see a big U shaped area that you're moving around. Continue to move around the area and head up NORTH to the other circular-ish hallway area.

Be warned that the mobs here are tougher and meaner. There's often a Beady Beetle around and a "Balloon" both of which can cause problems!

Once again, you'll see another dressed-wall that looks like a building, but isn't. It's patrolled by much tougher skeletons and goblins. If you look at the map, you'll see that you're in the NORTH-WEST part of the map. To the northish-westish of the fake building, the map shows that the passageway ends in a "blob" of a room.

But the map is...wrong.

Enter the blob-shaped room hugging the left wall and you'll find another passageway. Follow that down just a tiny distance to find the Mahogony Door.

Well, I'm getting frustrated. So far I've not found any useful help with this and I've been fighting it for 3 days now.

"Look on your map for a circular hallway with a tip..." Wha? There's two of those. Both have skeletons and dressed-stone walls, which might have been handy to know. One, has lower level skeletons and the other has higher-level skeletons and sometimes has the hateful "Balloon" monster. Which area is it? We'd find it a bit easier to locate if some of those minor details were provided.

I've visited both, by the way but I don't see a secret door. Where is this secret door supposed to be? In a North wall? South wall? In the dressed-stone wall? On one of the cave walls leading to the area? ..away from the area? On one of the tips?

Really, what I'm trying to ask for is a bit more information than "It's over there in that direction."

# Nov 04 2003 at 10:22 AM Rating: Default
I don't have the map to look at but I'm pretty sure I know what you're talking about. Those areas have more than one way to enter the circle. You want to look on your map for a circular hallway that has only one direction to enter from and is also the only exit. When you first enter the choke point there are goblins, if you follow the right wall you may run into a ballon but will see a carved wall with skeletons. Keep following the right wall and you'll find the "tip" that opens up. Inside there are two goblin weavers and one goblin thug. On the left side of that room is another hallway that is not shown on the map. For simplicity sake you can keep following the right wall and you won't miss it. There is no secret door, the hallway is very much obvious just not marked on the map. Follow that hallway and there should be two blade bats and then another goblin thug and goblin weaver right in front of the mahogony door. Hope this helps.

The building is not marked. I still can't figure out how the hell to make a marker and put it wherever I want.

Its either 9 c, the northmost building beyond the two near it, or its at the opposite end of the trail (the southmost building around 15 something which is also the southmost of the two bulidings near it.)

The door is labeled, TarTaru times or whatever, so you can click on it from some distance.

RE: 9 C I think, windhurst waters

It is the south=western most house, at 11-12/C-D.

Clicking on the door shows "Tarutaru Times"...

I just collected my 560 Gil.

The coordinates of the tower in East Sartabarta are J7. Also, you REALLY need to have the map for the ruins to do this quest. When you go through the secret door at G8 look on your map for a circular hallway with a tip. This is where you want to go. There is a hidden hallway not on the map that's by this area, find that and go a short distance and youll see the mahogony door.

As a side note: On the map there is one area at the very end that has a solid room look (it doesnt look like a cave basically) this is NOT where you want to go, and it takes a high level to get there anyways. I died three times trying to run past enemies long enough to get there.

It's the northwest white spot that looks like a tree on your map (it actually IS a tree.) The southwestern white tree is the entrance to the OUTER ruins, which is the wrong place

I've been trying to find the mahogony door behind the cracked wall... is it the same door that you click on for the Mission 1 quest? I've clicked on it and nothing special happens, can't seem to finish this quest up.

well, there is a second hidden door in one of orb rooms (top left room on the map)
