Haud's "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Chasm"

First off, head to (K-9). You will be on the easternmost side of the mountain, almost at the lower corner. You'll come to a point where there will be a ramp on either side of you, if you are facing the mountain. Take the left one, heading South. Proceed up a few steps and you'll reach a fork. Head to the right (North). You should be heading upwards now. Next, you'll hit another fork, on one side (left) is a crack in the wall, the other is a path. Head to the left (South, towards the crack). Proceed a bit further and you'll come to another split. Head north, taking the path heading upwards. At the next intersection, keep straight continuing North. You'll reach a spout, but it'll go down in a few seconds. Continue ahead, walking over the giant bone, still moving Northwards.

Now, you'll come to a dark black spout. This will not die down. At this point, fall off to the side (East). You'll then land on a platform directly below. Head North a bit, and you'll see this walkway ends quickly. Fall down, heading North still, however, and not fall to the right (east) like you did before.

If you did this all right, you should be heading upwards and North. YOu'll soon hit another intersection, but ignore it; head North still. You'll quickly hit another spout, and this one will not die either. So, you guessed it, fall down to the right (east) again. Don't fall too far. You want to fall on the platform DIRECTLY below, and not all the way down. If you did it right, you'll be facing north where the walkway continues, and right behind you, the platform will end. Continue North.

After you turn a corner, you'll see this massive bone heading upwards. To your left, you should see that the platform begins to rise. Take it upwards and move towards the bone. IF you don't go upwards, the platform will soon end, and you'll have nowhere to go, but down. Bad. Climb the bone, continuing upwards. At the top of the spiny bone thing, continue West now, moving upwards. You'll hit another intersection, but keep West. The platform will end, and you'll see the top. Too bad you can't get there yet ;-). Fall down to the platform, heading West. Make sure to fall at the END of the platform. If you did it right, a rock should be BEHIND you, not in front. If not, start over ^^. Head West. You'll encounter another spout, but it will disappear soon.

Once again, you'll see the top, but you still can't get there. Fall down again, to the North. Same as before, fall at the platform's END. If you did it right, a rock will be behind you. Head West. This path will wind a bit, and you'll cross over another spine/bone structure as well. Soon, you will hit another perma-spout. Fall to the North again onto the platform below. Do not fall on the ground. You'll be on a platform that will be VERY close to the ground. Don't worry, you're doing fine ^^.

Follow this platform around, heading in the general South direction being careful not to accidentally fall off. When you hit another spine, which is rather short, you'll see a path heading upwards. Take it. You should be heading Northwards and up now. At the top, head to the right (South) towards the crack in the wall.

You'll quickly hit another path heading upwards. Take it. At the top, ignore the path heading South and continue North. You'll hit a spout, but it will disappear soon. Follow the path over 2 sets of bones. After the bones and heading upwards a bit, the path will split.

To the north, you will see another set of bones, so head North. At the end of these bones, you'll hit a dead end. Continue up a bit, and you'll fall onto a path below you. If done right, you will have a rock behind you, and you will be facing Westwards. You'll soon hit another spout, but this one will disappear and when it does continue North. Now, just follow this path up a bit more and TA-DA! You're at the top.

While this looks like a lot, it's really about a 5-10 minute walk up if you don't screw up and you know how to do it. Of course, there are a lot of falls, twists, and turns. I would recommend trying yourself first before using this to see if you can do it; it's a fun challenge in the game. The basic idea is "Head counterclockwise from the southeast corner until you are on the direct opposite side from where you started. Then head clockwise. Fall to the path below you if you hit a perpetual spout."

This fight is a heck of a lot of fun. The time limit kinda sucks if you are having trouble finding him. I found it harder to get to the top of the plateau than to actually win this fight, lol. We went in with rdm, rdm, pld, sam, sam, brd. At one point we had 3 links up but the bard kept them asleep very easily. He buried once, after that myself and the other sam just tore him to pieces with self light skillchains.

I beat this first try with 7 people the other day (you CAN bring more than 6 but you suffer a slight XP penalty, we got 2142XP each.)

With the trouble with pops? Our strat was to KILL the first add that pops, but sleep/gravity the other two. This worked very well, and the adds stayed out of our hair long enough to won.

Got a square of Galetia cloth.

i've done this twice...

drops viridian urushi (sp?) woodworking synth item
also drops harmonia's torque

the NM itself is pretty easy (for 6 level 75's decked out in god gear), has high evasion and resists almost all debuffs.

First time the NM didn't go anywhere when it burrowed, so we had no links.

Second time we got 2 of the smaller antlions, but they went down fast.

I recc a standard xp pt... as long as you have a blm and someone to make lv3 skillchain i don't see why you shouldn't be able to win this.

Melee definantly bring sushi to this. First time I tried it with curry and I had a hell of a time hitting him, second time I used sushi and had no trouble at all.

Lost both times unfortunantly. First time we tried sleeping and died when they woke. Second time we tried to kill adds and it took too much time.

Hmm, I got a "Cloud Evoker" from this ENM. No clue wtf its for, as most sites dont even have it listed. It's rare/ex and says something about a ranbringer song.
RE: Cloud Evoker
# Jul 18 2005 at 8:19 AM Rating: Good
The Cloud Evoker is a fairly rare drop, and for good reason. It will allow you and 17 suicidal friends into an uncapped full alliance Ouryu fight. This is a BCNM, not an ENM so you will lose exp when you die in it. You have 1 hour to kill a fully powered Ouryu (think Jormungand/Tiamat strength), with 2 NM Elemental and 2 NM Worm friends.

As of now this is probably the hardest BCNM in the game.
Drops?

It doesn't have a list of drops, so what have you guys got from this ENM?

For me I have got a Galatia. Sells for 2.2mil on bahamut ^^

Yes, you can toss it. I picked one up, threw it away and immediately talked to him again and got the same speech and another pouch. Tossed it too, lol.

only 2500exp? i was under the impression we'd get 4000 like the uleguerand range enm 75... anyway, did this with some ls buddies a few days ago and most of these other people are right, getting to the top of the mountain is the worst part. after you've done it once though it is very easy after that. the fight was pathetically simple. we're all 72-73+ and i'm 75pld so the things weren't hitting me very hard at all. we killed the main mob but within seconds of its death our timer ran out before we could get the exp/treasure.. we wasted too much time in the beginning using buffs, healing mp, seeking out the critter, and fighting the lesser mobs rather than just taking out the main one. once the main mob is dead the battle is over. next time i do this i'm going to keep hate from all 3 mobs if necessary and make sure everyone focuses on only the main one.

did this with my LS the other night and we pwned it.

the hardest part was getting up those ledges. once we all got up there and traded the flaxen pouch we haeded to boneyard gully. the key here is having everyone stick together. we walk in very slowly and wait to be amushed. everyone pretty much just unloads on the main antlion till it goes back underground. once it does we all ease in a little more. A lesser NM ambushed us then. we pretty easily take that one out. the next to ambush us was the main guy again. he wasnt all that bad to kill. we got 2500 exp and some item used to craft SAM JsE with . we all just give out SAM the item so he could get his JSE gloves .

I was bored and decided to randomly run around when I can to Attohwa Chasm got the pouch and decided to do what the guy asked for. But I had no map so I didn't know where he wasnted me to go >_<. runing around lvl 31 whm I casted sneak invisible a lot so I can run the intire map. Found I couldn't and found the mountin/hill thing. needed to recast so I decided to go to a safe spot and found the narrow cliffs by mistake. started to climb and almost got to the top thinking this must be it right, fell off delvled from a mob, so I had too go way back to the Eastern altep dessert.
My question is Can i see the CoP sceen even if I am still on the first one?
My guess no and I shouldn't worry and just work myself up to it in a higher lvl job, but wondering if I fill this now would It be easier or something. . .thnx ^_^

yea i did this the other day, we got owned but it seemed pretty easty

its just like steamed sprouts except the things hit harder and to finish it its alot easier because if you just sleep the babies and kill the mama your done so im not sure the best way to go about this but i would take a Pld, whm, rdm, thf, brd and a blm

u need as much refresh and sleepers as possible

The CoP scene on chapter 3 for this is simply fixing a broken item. And from what I've heard of the rest of the missions, you dont go back to the cradle... besides that Pheonix is currently residing in Tenzen's katana.

# Mar 08 2005 at 12:14 PM Rating: Decent
The Flaxen Pouch is given by a NPC (i think its a Goblin if i remember correctly) at the zone of Attowa Chasm and Shakrami Maze, on the Chasm side entrance on the left. Not sure what the other one does once the pouch if filled...

It's actually a taru who mentions something about looking like a goblin because of a wart on his nose.

I attempted this with my LS friends last night. By far the longest and most annoying part was taking everyone to the top of the mountain to get the item the quest giver wants. I'd been there before and served as a guide, but I ended up making 3 trips to the top before everyone got it. Make sure you're careful on the ledges, and warn everyone not to fall off where you're not supposed to. ^_^;;

Once we got to Boneyard Gully, we ended up losing the fight. It's a short fight (15 minutes), so we tried to focus on the NM and just keep the other antlions slept. It didn't work so well. :( We were mostly 69-70 with a 75 blm; setup was war/nin, thf, sam, blm, rdm, whm (me).

We entered, buffed, and then got surprised by the NM popping out of the ground and almost killing the thief. The antlion was hitting the war *hard*, and I had a tough time keeping up with healing. Flash worked well to let the war get shadows back up, but my stoneskin kept getting burned through quickly.

After we had taken it down by about 1/3 hp, it buried itself. We rested up, then went looking for it again and found one of the lesser ones. In what may have been a strategic mistake, we slept it and kept looking for the NM. Well... we found another lesser one again. Tried to keep it slept too, and finally found the NM. We beat on it a while, but when the others woke up, they killed the rdm quickly. The tank died right before my benediction, and after pummeling me, the antlions wiped everyone else quickly. We got the NM down to about 1/2 health before the end.

Talking about it afterward, it seemed that fighting more than one at a time would be too hard. However, with the short 15 minute time limit, I don't know that there's time to work them singly. We're going to try it again next week to find out. The war and thf should hit 70 by then, which would help also.

Anyway, we'd appreciate any other info people have, especially about successful strategies. SE made a great choice when they decided that these fights won't lose you experience. It's easier to convince people to take the risk when there is no risk, and it lets a lot of strategies be tested. So try them out, and report back on how the fights go!

This one is very easy if your good at controlling your character. PS2 players seem to have an advantage on this quest because the ledges are so narrow that it's so easy with an analog stick. It's basicly taking the item you get from quest giver and trading it to the Cradle of Rebirth at the top of the plateau on the east section map of Attohwa Chasm.

If your familiar with completing the Windy section of Promathia Chapter 3, then this is a walk in the park. Espeically if you had to retake friends up it many times to catch them up on CoP missions. >.>

i've actualy wandered all the way up top when CoP first came out in US, was easy for me to navigate using first person POV, which is what i normaly use (due to playing alot of FPS games).

so you may wanna consider swaping to first person POV, gives more precise control
