Thats wrong, I am 44 cooking, just dinged it on these and got another skill up after that...so my guess is these cap 45-46
Do I stand a better chance of HQs with one recipie over another? I usually use sardines since they are easier to catch.
cannotlinkto has the cap for the Tuna and Bluetail recipes @ 45 for both. This would explain the skillups people are receiving @ 44 Cooking skill.
I'm at 44 Cooking now and am still able to get 0.1 skill ups with Water Crystal + Gugru Tuna I fish up on the ferry, so this is at least a 45 cap synthesis ^^
Im lvl 60 in fishing so obviously fishin up bastore sardines is no thing since they cap at like 10 or w/

I recently tried making this with Gugnu Tuna and got a skill up at cooking 40, even though I failed.

Yes these caps are wrong and need to be corrected, the guguru tuna one is capped at about 41 or 42. The bastore sardine one is correct. the other one i am not sure of yet.
Bluetail version doesn't cap at 44. I was still getting skill ups after 44. I just finished the few I had left to clear the stack and wow skillups..

On Gilgamesh, these sell for roughly 600 gil a stack. If you're making these for skill, you're going to lose money. If you're a BST, you're better off buying your supply from the AH because it's super cheap.

Well, On Valefor, Water crystals range from like... 300-700 a stack depending on what town and who has jacked up the price. and Bastore Sardines are easy as hell to catch cause you just grab the Carbon rod and a Sabiki Rig and pull in up to 3 at a time.

37 is the cap not the lvl to make it at...great way to lv up though :)
I was synthing these and made "Fish Oil Broth" instead. It's a lvl 23 Jug that summons Courier Carrie. I couldn't find Fish Oil Broth on the Item Lookup. Think that's the HQ synth?

I dunno about lvl 37. lvl 32 I'm making this stuff just fine, and got .1 in about 6 tries and no failure. Sells for half the price of a sardine to a shop. Rare to find much on the AH. Give it a shot, I've not done very many. But I dont think I will again.

I believe the posted skill of 37 is in reference to the skil lvl of when it becomes trivial, can no longer earn skill from making and not the minimum skill needed to synth.

i'll retract part of that earlier statement. Its becoming more common to see up as more and more people get their bst hobby job up to level enough to use em. Still, not really worth it for skill I think.
This is a fine recipe to level up on if you do any saltwater fishing with small-fish lures or bait, as Bastore Sardines come up all the time. With a Sabiki Rig up to 3 can come at once. Liquefying them is a good way to save up on the inventory space.
That said this sells rather poorly on Siren's Auction Houses.
