75PLD/NIN first try did it, becareful is not as easy at plp says it is , at least as a PLD/NIN, good advice is keep shadow on all the time and flash will save you live
first try, decimated him. barfira'd, protect 2, stoneskin and blink.
hit off the fight with a drain 2, paralyzed. as soon as blink and stoneskin were taken i slammed into dread spikes, and stunned / bashed the tosses he threw at me.
one helluva' interesting fight, but nothing to cry about.
Solo'd as 62 THF/NIN. Was not easy, but the fourth time was the charm in my case. Everytime I died, she was within 1% HP, though.
I used Bluethorne's run as a guide of sorts. I'll paraphrase for the most part. First run: Brought myself, capped evasion, the little extra evasion from gear (Emp pin, Scorp Harness, dodge earrings and jaridah bazubands) bloody bolts, and a signal pearl. Pretty standard fight, but it should be noted that I was only draining 36~ hp per bolt. Fortunately DE was doing 400~ up to 700 with triple proc. At one point my HP dropped, I believe it was one or two hits from Mighty Strikes, so I used pearl. Got 3 cure IIIs and a Cure II out of my NPC before it died. In the end I was down under 100 HP with 96% tp, while gambilox was one DE away from death, hit with bolt to bring TP over 100%: <Unable to use weapon skill> <Unable to use weapon skill> <Gambilox Wanderling uses Bomb Toss> >.<
Second run: Much the same, but brought some potions and blind bolts. Didn't use too many blind bolts as blind didn't stick for long. Was a little better off at the end of the fight this time, but at the end I tried to run from a bomb toss only to realize that I had TP to kill her. Ran back: <Unable to see target> <Unable to use weapon skill> readied Scroll of Instant Warp (I don't even know how....) <Gambilox Wanderling hits for (enough to kill me)> >.<
Third run: Actually the one I really thought I had her on, brought all of the above and a pair au lait. Blinded more often, HP was consistently around 500, but around 10% she went crazy with bomb tosses and I couldn't keep up enough to use the X-potion I had or the signal pearl I still had unused. Was the most heartbreaking of the three deaths.
Fourth (finally, final) run: Pretty much the same as the third run although I actually used the X-potion, brought out my NPC before actually dying, and had a stroke of luck, I'm sure. Ended the battle with 200 hp, and nerves wracked.
I hate Gambilox so much, but another soloing feat with THF accomplished, up there with soloing LB3 me thinks.
Don't let the old posters scare you, it's not that bad a fight, any 75 job with shadows, or a decent curing pool should be able to solo this.
Fought this as 75 MNK/NIN for a 50THF from my linkshell. I was a little worried with all the posts about bomb toss spamming, but I guess I got lucky.. it only used Goblin Rush 3 times, and was dead before it could land a hit with Mighty Strikes. Much easier than I had expected. ^^
Notorious for losing all of his beastcoins, the clothes off his back, and his home in Movalopolis due to an uncontrolled gambling addiction. Adventurers who show pity towards him might give his friends the occasional Lizard Egg, Gausebit Grass, and a little Rock Salt to flavor them. Nothing says skid row like a Lizard Egg Salad Sandwich.
The NM doesn't actually drop the hat. After it dies you have to click the ??? once more to get the "Regal Die" item which you need to finish the quest. You get your hat from Nanna Mihgo, the same NPC you spoke with to start the quest. (you have to go back to the junk shop in Jeuno before going back to Windurst.)
Check here for a nice guide on all the THF AF gear. http://www.bvvp.com/gaming/ffxi/thfaf.html
I just solo'd as a 65 THF. Yes, I know, why the hell do I not have the hat alread? I've been lazy and the hat doesn't really do much for me, I've been concentrating on XPing and NM hunting. So I finally decided to do it.
Sleep bolts don't work, so that hurt.
My first try I had a hard time of it, equipped my Signal Earring to summon my NPC during the fight. She immediately cast Cure III on me, and two more before she died to the bomb AOEs. I should have TA+DE onto her before she died. Oh well. NM took me down to 22 HP as I has hitting Flee to zone. I took away 75% of the NM's life before I had to ditch.
I ran back, cast utsusemi and waited out the time for recast to come back up and hit the ??? to try again, this time with the one strategy: spam Bloody Bolts and use and Acid Bolt before every DE.
Gambilox came out, I hit her with an Acid then used DE for 418 damage (the rest of the fight I did no less than 395 and a max of 587), then started in with the Bloddy bolts (I later forgot about the Acid and concenctrated on Bloody bolts to keep me alive). Each bomb only did 41 damage to me each time, so it was really only an issue of avoiding the regular hits and the Goblin Rush. The Rush is the killer because it'll take all of the Shadows away each time.
When the NM used Mighty Strikes I was gonna use Perfect Dodge to cancel it out, but decided not to. I'm glad I didn't, because not once ... not once did she ever hit me during her 2hr. I did use one or two Blind bolts on her during that time. Later, I had just cast Utsusemi when she did a Rush, cancelling it, then did 2 more for 180 damage total. I used Perfect Dodge to wait out my time for the next blink and spammed more bloody bolts and DE.
When I had a little less than half my life left, I'd say 450 HP, Gambilox was living her last moments. Then she started spamming Goblin Rush again. I ended the battle with 127 life left.
My LS was telling me I was nuts to try, but I felt safe since I had a Warp Cudgel and Perfect Dodge, as well as the option to Flee to the nearby zone.
I'm glad I did!
BTW, I had lots of evasion gear on, totalling +29 evasion. I hit probably 90% of my bolts.
This guy is fun. New Paladin Buddy of mine and I did this last night/ this morning. (God it was early). Party seyup was Me 66 Ranger/33 Ninja and Johnz 75 Paladin/37 Warrior. Grats again man. The guy really wasnt too hard. SPAMMED BOMBTOSS. I'm talking this guy would throw 2 in a row sometimes... Fun stuff though. Mighty Strikes was fun, Shadowbind>>>> Run Away! So that eliminated that. Not too bad, doable with 75 Paladin and 66 Ranger. Very fun. look me up on Gilgamesh if you want help. Nddare member KDRDemonhunters cya Vietsins, gl bro.
I solo'd this nm today for my THF hat, I solo'd him as a lvl 75 Brd/Whm...not incredibly tough, but he does SPAM bomb like crazy, and he also does quite a few Goblin Rushes.
What I did...
Protect 2 Shell2 Stoneskin Blink Barfira Fire Carol Paeon V Regen
With this setup, his bombs only did 14 dmg to me... I could not lullaby him or Requiem him, but I was able to Elegy and Dia for some reason. I countered his Mighty Strikes with Soul Voice and Double Paeon.... 38/hp per second, weeeeee..... he never got me lower than 650/hp
BTW, I was using, Genbu's shield, Joyeuse and Empy pin. Without these I wouldn't have gotten tp back so fast and the battle would have gone much slower. I would definently recommend bringing some potions or yag's drinks if you're gonna try this guy solo.
It seems like this guy calls in help from all the goblins down in the ravine. Our THF tried to blink tank him but we had 2 goblins come seemingly out of nowhere and just knock his shadows down.
im a rdm61 and i just soloed this thing for a thf friend. took like 10 min. ninja sub, stoneskin, and so on. drops bombs alot but no big deal. fun kill.
She went down really fast when I fought her, wasn't any trouble at all. That's because of my help, of course. ^^;; We had 50THF/25NIN (me), 55DRK/27WAR, 59PLD/29WAR, 62RNG/31NIN, and 75BLM/37WHM. I don't think she even got a chance to use Mighty Strikes, cuz when we got her down to about half health, the RNG let loose with Barrage and Sidewinder, and the BLM with Blizzard IV and one other spell I think, which killed her.
Just solo'ed this guy as BST62 (THF activated ??? and then just moved away out of Bomb Toss range).
And with BLM sub too, that I'd been using for Warp and forgot to change back to WHM (so no Protect2, Barfira, Dia, or Cure spells). Whoops >_<
The fight was pretty close admittedly, I finished with less than 300HP and my FunguarFamiliar jug pet died just before Gamblinox did. I called another one and the gob dropped next hit. Pretty sure it would have gone a lot smoother with WHM sub though :p
We were able to beat Gambilox with only two people. First time as 60 THF/NIN and 61 RDM/BLM. Second time as 60 THF/NIN, 60 WHM/SMN, 62MNK/WAR, 60SAM/WAR. Stay on the east path (the path you zoned in from Dangruf) to reach the correct ???. Gambilox is a smithy type NM, which Zalakria stated. He is a lot easier to hit than Climpix Highrise but has more defense and HP.
You do NOT have to be a Thief to spawn him, if this information helps you. Once RDM spawned him, I did a 295% SATA + HIDE + Dancing Edge for ~800 damage instant and put hate on the RDM, who was buffed with as much possible - Phalanx, Protect 3, Stoneskin, Aquaveil, Blink, etc.
After getting 100% tp second time, I did SA+DE on him alone, since RDM was getting his defenses tore through. Mighty Strikes is indeed the ugly part of the battle, because if it gets a double attack in that part it hurts big time. RDM binded him and he got any buffs he needed, and cures from all the bomb tosses we were taking. Gamblix didn't stay binded very long before we finished our stuff so RDM sleeped it for some more seconds.
The third time I was able to get 100% TP, 5 minute timer on Hide was up and i did another hidden dancing on the RDM and Gamb was close to death.
I can imagine a NIN/WAR being a better tank, if he has the +evasion and is good at timing when to cast the Utsusemi Ni/Ichi routine, it would make the battle a ton easier. The only thing you really need to watch out for is A. Mighty strikes and B. Bombs
This is indeed a fight for THF AF2. We did this with a 60 WAR, 50 THF, 51 RNG, and 60 RDM with two deaths. (the THF thought this NM was a THF-type like Climbpix Highrise... how wrong he was)
Gamblivox is an NM Warrior type Goblin (like a Goblin Smithy), which means several things. a) He has a lot of HP. I, as the WAR, started out with a 1595 Raging Rush coupled with the RNG's ~500 Barrage, which took off around 1/3 of its HP. b) He hits fairly hard and double-attacks frequently. Anyone who has fought a Goblin Smithy should know what to expect there. c) He will use Mighty Strikes along the way. This is where you should be prepared with extra healing, a pld or thf 2hr etc. (assuming you can get hate on the THF), because with his many double attacks, this part can get ugly fast. With only a RDM for healing, my 1400 HP dropped much too fast, and the RNG folded soon after when Gamblivox tore through the RNG/NIN's blink.
Based on the damage he did and took other than with his 2hr, this should be doable with a good party of ~50s. Just recognize that he's a WAR type and be prepared for Mighty Strikes + Double Attacks, on top of a liberal use of Bomb Toss.
this guy was easy as hell! i killed him in a few hits with banish 2... or was it just normal.... o i dont know (i dont speak much english just learning but know lots learnt english for 5 years now pretty easy now......)
