the walkthrough is correct, just a couple things.
trunk is @I-11 Riverne-Site#A01
the island is full of vultures;
they dont link/aggro, and theres nothing else on the island that aggros.
id suggest pickin off birds there vs. fighting on the other islands.
hawkertraps never aggroed,
hippogryphs have true sight,
wyverns aggro sight
lv40nin can solo birds w/ the right tools.
got my copper key on 4th kill.
TRY TO GET THIS DONE BEFORE END OF COP;
not necessity but it ties in a lil w/ the storyline ^^gl

SummaryHow is little Sanctia doing? Zoriboh wants you to take her a present from her father and see that she is keeping out of trouble. WalkthroughTo start this quest, you will need to have finished the first quest Chasing Dreams and be on or have completed CoP mission 2-5 "Ancient Vows" or you will not be able to trigger the quest. Talk to the Zoriboh in Rabao to start the quest. He will give you the key item: Care Package. Head to the Tavnazian Safehold and speak with Quelveuiat, who is straight across the bridge upon entering. You should receive another cutscene. If he gives you a cutscene about joining the Tavnazian Knights, you must complete the quest A Hard Day's Knight before he will give you the correct cutscene. Next, you will need to head out to Riverne Site #A01. Kill Riverne Vultures until they drop a Copper Key. This area is lvl 40 capped and the vultures will con tough. You can solo them as a Ranger with sleep arrows/bolts, otherwise you will likely need some help. Everyone doing this quest will need a key. Head to the Spacial Distortion at (I-11). You will end up on a rather large island. Hug the wall to the left until you reach another distortion. From here, hug the wall to your right to get to the next distortion. On this island go left to the distortion, then on this island hug the right wall to the distortion here. You should get a cutscene after appearing on this island. After, you will find a Trunk on this island. Trade the Copper Key to open the trunk to recieve another cutscene. Head to Bastok, talk to Vladinek, who is in the Eatery in the Metalworks district to get a cutscene. Head to Bibiki Bay and ride the Manaclipper to Purgonorgo Isle. You can talk to the Mithra on the docks and the blonde Elvaan on the western part of the island for a few sentences related to the quest (not necessary). On the western beach of the island there is a Weathered Boat at (F-9). BE READY TO FIGHT BEFORE EXAMINING THE BOAT. Examining the boat will give you a cutscene and will spawn the NM Rohemolipaud. To end the fight, you do not need to get his HP to 0. The battle will end at about 30% HP. Examine the boat again to get a cutscene. The NM must be defeated for each member of the party taking part in this quest. After the cutscene, you will receive the Deluxe Carbine. Actually, it says in the walkthrough above that you need to have completed "A Hard Day's Knight" quest before he gives you the correct cutscene, this is not true. I just got the correct cutscene but haven't completed "A Hard Day's Knight" yet, just have to zone out of Tavnazian Stronghold and talk to him again.

I made my way as a thf/nin to the Trunk, and tried using a Living Key on it. No go. While many of the Riverne Vultures in the area conned Tough, several also conned Decent Challenge. The birds do NOT link, so if you know how to play your job solo, you should be able to farm the key without too much trouble. For thf/nin, I recommend the usual Bloody Bolts, and a couple Sleep Bolts, so you can use SATA, or get Utsusemi back up, if needed.
I first started trying to farm this with just bloody bolts, and my usual party gear. After killing 5 or 6 birds with no drop (and usually about 200 hp left), I ran out of shihei and warped back to town. Once properly equipped, against a dc bird, I ended the fight with over 80% (500+) health. I also got the key, and found myself with a bunch of extra stacks of tools and bolts on my hands. XD

Definitely one of my favorite quests. ^^ I love how so many of these CoP quests tie into the THF AF storyline somewhat too. ^^ I'd wanted revenge on this Elvaan for awhile (if he's the guy I think he is, from the final cutscene of the THF AF3 quest). He was easy as could be. Didn't even hit me once (THF61/NIN30). He didn't use Eagle Eye Shot on me (I was waiting for it the whole battle, too...). He did use Cyclone, which I thought would wipe out my shadows, it being AoE and all... but no, it only took off one shadow and was absorbed by it (took no damage). I managed to get him down to about 5% life before he ran away. Towards the end he just sat there disengaging and re-engaging (i.e. putting away his knife and drawing it again) over and over, not attacking.
I just finished Chasing Dreams, zoned out and back into Rabao and he would not give me the quest. I have hero fame, and have started the mission in Riverne Site #A01. However, he would not give me the quest. I believe that finishing the mission is a pre-requisite, not just starting it.

i also have PM2-5 in my mission log, but i havent gone to Riverne Site yet at all...and i cant flag this yet, so maybe you gotta zone into Riverne?

Woo-who!! Just solo'd this fight as a level 60 White Mage/Black Mage. I kept Stoneskin as often as possible, he hits slow so it's pretty easy to get spells off. Used Drain everytime it came up. Once I got to 300 TP I let off Seraph Strike and took a good chunk of his health.
When he used Eagle Eye Shot I was nearly out of mp, so I used Benediction, put up one last Stonskin, and prayed. He had me in the red and I had 92% TP. I swung my maul once more, got 101% TP, and Seraph Strike for the win!
Ended the fight with 110 HP and 1 MP. This was a great quest series (with ties to another CoP quest series I just did ^^) with a great story and one Fantastic boss battle!

This was easy for my BST65 with a Funguar jug; Rohemolipaud took my jug pet down to 67% before he gave up. I also saw a THF62/NIN solo him easily.

Mob name in Purgonorgo Isle is an Elvaan RNG called Rohemolipaud. He uses Eagle Eye Shot at 50% health. At 20% he says:
"This time I let you walk away with your miserable life..."
And the battle is over.
Killed him with THF62/NIN31 solo. EES took 430 HP.
This is one of my favourite quests in FFXI (this and and the previous one Chasing Dreams - they form a special story).

Finally some more info on this quest!
The island you want to get to is (I-11). This is where you get the cutscene as well as where the trunk is located.
As a taru NIN40/WAR20 (capped), I was able to solo a vulture on that same island and get my key on the first drop^^ Be careful though, those vultures do some (AoE?) TP attack that ignores blink. It only did the move once during the fight. If it had done it twice, I would've been dead since I was left is 37HP after the fight.
