SummaryGauntlets wrought by Borghertz, the legendary craftsman, lie hidden somewhere in Vana'diel. WalkthroughYou must have completed Ghosts of the Past - MNK AF1 and activated The First Meeting - MNK AF2 before you can get this quest. To start the quest, talk to Guslam, the galka in the armor shop in Upper Jeuno. Next, go to Crawler's Nest and get a Nest Coffer Key, which drop from Crawler Hunters, Knight Crawlers and Helm Beetles. Once you have the key, you must find a treasure coffer. The coffer can spawn in two places in the room north of the wespes (F-6), in three places in the room with rumble crawlers just south of the wespes (G-7 and G-8) and in two places in the tunnel where helm beetles roam (F-9 and G-9). Trade your key to the coffer to receive the key item, Some Old Gauntlets. After you received the old gauntlets, return to Guslam. He will say the gauntlets are work of Borghertz, but he cannot repair them. You then have to go speak to Yin Pocanakhu in the Tenshodo shop in Lower Jeuno. She talks about a toolbox that won't open. Pay her 1000 gil, and she tells you the toolbox is in Port Jeuno, just outside of the Duty-Free shop. Find the toolbox and examine the ???. In a cutscene, Borghertz appears and asks that you bring him some Shadow Flames from Castle Zvahl Baileys. Go to Castle Zvahl Baileys and examine the torch at F-8. A notorious monster bomb named Dark Spark will appear. Kill Dark Spark and examine the torch a second time to get the Shadow Flames. OR you can help me get both of them!^^ but anyway name is Leorance, I'm on the Fairy server and I'm Lv 52 with 2k TNL. I like to have my AF armor before I get to wear it... like most people I would guess. leave a message on here, or /tell me sometime... i will most likely be on tomarrow, October 19 dring the evening, and maybe even sometime tonight after i finish homework. Lady Luck was with me today! in the form of a mithra :) went there used oil an' powder started the search, few mins later invis wears as i'm runnin' past a mithra. she asks "coffer?" so i reply yes. She told me 2 follow her an' she showed me the coffer^^. Iria of seraph, I {salute} your generosity :)

How did u get to the 5 coffer spawn point Leondel? I have map from print out and tried to go there but died 2 times T_T I tried to walk down into Map 3 and It seems that those coffer points are at much higher ground that I cant get into. Please Help a mnk out!

Finally got AF 3-5; After getting Temple Gaiters, my sequence was Cyclas, Temple Crown (head thingy), and lastly, Temple Gloves. After getting key in party for Garliage and Beadeaux, I soloed the coffer with lots of silent oil and prism powders. Also used Silencing Potion to run around Beadeaux without trouble from Afflictors.
I got really lucky with Nest coffer; went there to scout mobs and maps. Came across a Japanese exp. party fighting Helm Beetles. They offered Coffer Key. I accepted graciously. Offered reward; they did not accept. I returned eight hours later and they were still there building exp. Went back to Map 3 (five coffer spawns) and got to pop and claim. Just in Nest used more than two stacks of Silent oil and Prism Powder. Had them macroed. Good thing too; Wespe, Soldier Crawlers, and lizards kept me very aware of safe spots to reapply silent and invisible. My sweet spot to start and stop a search cycle was just outside room where Dragonfly guard two spawns. This spot worked for couple hours. Till Wespe began floating bye. It became busy and harder to find quiet spot to reapply. Shortly after I got pop and claim. No problems.

Well after getting Gaiters; I jumped to Beadeaux and got Cyclas. Now i'm working on Garliage; so i guess you can skip; at least when doing 3-5. Good luck.
Oooh, cant wait for these! decided to forgo the Ochiudo Kote because they cost 850k+ on Pandemonium server. I cant afford that ><. I'm 47 now.. just have to struggle along w/ Hume RSE gloves till 54. The thing about the Kote too is that for that price they sure have alot of negative effects too. The - light and -evasion isnt worth the +att IMO (well at that price anyways), Dia-ed forever... no thanks. +20 Att is nice granted... but cant justify the bad w/ just that. (price, -light, -evasion).

Saying the evasion- and light resistance- is reason enough to not get kote is just you trying to justify not having it. evasion- is meaningless for monk, and -8 light resistance wont kill you. Get kote.

***** the kote... i made it without them. and never planned on getting them. if anything i was gonna get H. Kote instead. no need for O. Kote IMO just a waste of a lot of money. yes it would have been nice to have them but definitely not necessary.

No, I don't think you can skip any of the hands AF quests because you won't be able to get the next pieces if you don't kick off the hands first.
Once you kick off the hands AF quest, you can get any of the coffer pieces in any order.

I did darkspark at 54, and several times helping friends after that... I just wanted to let you up and coming monks know that darkspark is ridiculously easy (so long as your party has stun or you reserve your tp for shoulder tackle when he tries- if he tries to explode).
The party I was in when I first did it at 54, we had no tank, so basically I was tanking- I didn't even have to use provoke because I pretty much got all the hate. We didn't even have a full party and no big blast damage dealers. It was just me, 2 drks, a rdm, and a whm.
Heres the thing, darkspark is basically an EM to you at 54- he just has a good amount of hp is all. I was doing 80-110 per fist (with meat miths, of course). And on my 3rd attack cycle, I hit him 5 times in a row at 100+ damage each, so just to let you know, you will hit this thing very hard, I just have to assume you will probably steal hate from your tank. Darkspark is a piece of cake.
Just be sure going there, to stay in the middle of castle zvahl's halls at all times and hopefully have sneak and invis on each member at all times (as a DD, try to lighten the load on the mages and have your own silent oil and powders).
Don't worry about this quest. think of it as the level 55 cap quest. Its basically a walk in the park, and you will most likely see tons of shouts for it on weekends.

Unwritten rule that all important NMs will not suicide attack (Final Sting, Self Destruct, Hypothermal Combustion, Meltdown). Only NM known to suicide itself is the brand new Bee NM in Crawlers Nest, Demonic Tiphia.

As I've already completed this, I can't test it, but I'm 90% sure that you DO have to pay her... After all, the toolbox is there all the time - you have to have the right conditions to trigger the cutscene. If you're curious enough, get your old gauntlets, then try triggering the scene with the toolbox. My guess is you'll be unsuccessful until you talk to her and pay her.

You must have the Crawlers nest coffer key, you recieve a key item from the chest which is in fact the gloves but they're filthy after you get the key item from the coffer go talk to Guslam and go from there.

I am level 52 Mnk. I completed the Monk AF1 and got the Beat Cesti already... I spoke with Guslam and he just tells me to speak to the person at the counter for help.
Do I need more Jeuno fame to unlock this quest?

I am working on getting Monk AF gloves. Do I have to get the Crawlers Nest coffer before I fight Dark Spark for the flames? Will I get the key Item fame If I kill Dark Spark before getting the coffer?
