I found him on the bank, south of the River at the border of J-6 and K-6. To get him to spawn, you have to kill one or 2 crawlers in that general vicinity, then he should spawn shortly thereafter.

*Sigh* I have camped at thses spots for over 15 hours.. (IRL) Im seriously bored, and pitifully poor.. If U happen to have an exact locationn please let me know.. I just cant find him..
lol not, it may be good for a lower lvl but really the only thing good about this is money. It gives like +1 MND and +1 light. Its not all that good, u could ware it though, if u really dont want or need the extra 30k
It is very good for casters until at least lvl 30 or so. ;-) Find a cape that's better for blm/whm/rdm around lvl 12, that will last them until at least their 20's and then lose the +1 MND and +1 resist to light. There are none. At lower levels (10 or so for whm, rdm) it can be the difference between healing 25 HP instead of 22, per cure casted. Makes a difference when lvling up solo, in my experience!
Truly, it's not the be all, end all of all equipment, but is pretty much worth it if you have the time, or gil, to spare.
Ok, I read this whole thread and was wondering what he checks out as on different levels (i.e. lvl 14 RDM he might be tough or even) and what if any exp he gives.
hes an notorious monsters (nm), all nms will say impossible to gauage when you check them... or so i hear. anyways spini spipi and all nub zone notorious monsters are just around level 10 so if your smart you should have no trouble killing it solo
True, all NMs read 'impossible to gauge'... IF you're lower level than them. This may not be 100% accurate, but I'm fairly sure that if you're at a level where it would check as decent challenge or lower, than that is what it will say, not 'impossible to gauge'. Anyone care to verify this?
wow, im sorry, but i can make u really mad right now. ive killed spiny 3 times and it dropped all three times. in ur face lizzie hunters that come back empty handed!!
I have camped spinni probably for over 20 hours all together, somtimes it takes him 15 mins to spawn, and other times has taken over 5 hours,
I have killed spinni probably 5 times now? Each time he has dropped a silk thread
I WOULD ADVISE YOU, if going to kill spinni group with a thief, this will increase your chance of getting the rare item, but if u do get it then u will most likely have to cast LOT for it. I still think having a Thief with you is a good idea, but its your call.
Where does spinni spawn? Anywhere and everywhere, travel a bit outside of the boundries shown on the map above. It seem's to spawn by the river often.
What is his spawn holder? Im not sure what it is... But I seem to have good luck by killing Crawlers and giant bees.
I think I have told you all I know, I hope it helps you in your quest to find SpinnI!!!!!
as soon as i seen him, i fired off a eagle eye shot and killed it one hit with a 647 damage hit. no cape first or second time, but silk threads. he was at j-7 for me both times.
I actualy saw it spawn and it spawned near the top left corner of I-7. I dont think thats the only place he wil spawn though, just letting you guys know.
I have a slight suspicion it spawns at a certain time... i notice 0:30 it spawns on certain days.. i've seen it perhaps 10 times? always spawns around that time...
Having hunted Spipi for 4 days, I know a fair amount of info about him. First, it is possible for him to spawn in I-7, J-7, I-6, and J-6. I have seen him spawn in I-7 and J-7 and have heard reports from other trusted hunters of seeing him in I-6 and J-6. Out of the five times i killed him, I saw him in I-7 four times.
Second, Spipi does not have a set spawn time. I have seen him 45 minutes after his last death, but one time had to wait 3 hours to find him after i killed him. What I eventually learned was, how often Spipi spawns depends on how many monsters, NOT JUST CRAWLERS, you kill in the recommended squares above. I recommend killing all crawlers you see though as they might drop silk thread; the gil from the thread is what kept me interested. Also, i have found Spipi at both day and night.
Third, do not get discouraged if Spipi does not drop the Mist Silk Cape on your first kill. It took me four serious tries to get the cape. I have heard of some getting the cape on their first kill and others getting it on their seventh. Even if the cape does not drop, Spipi usually drops at least one silk thread (One time i got three).
The Mist Silk Cape may not be the most expensive nm drop (20,000 at Auction on Ifrit), but it is one of the best capes for mages until the mid-30s to early 40s. Also, be aware that Mist Silk Cape is a rare item, which means that only one can be held OR KEPT IN MOG SAFE at a time.
I am still working on if moon phase has anything to do with the spawning of Spipi or the drop of the cape. Thanks for your attention and happy hunting!

Posted:Dec 30 2003 at 3:50 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) A note on the ability to only hold one cape at a time. This is false. I curently have 2 of them on me. It is items that are stamped ex that you can have only 1 of.
I also have noted that you may only carry one Rare stamped item, but you may carry many exclusive items...check out all your beastmen's seals (and exclusive items may not be sold or traded, only dropped); they are stamped exclusive but not rare. Now note smooth stones or two leaf mandragora buds, most are rare and exclusive, you may never have more than one. It is possible that through a glitch to carry more than one rare item, usually this is when you are in a party with members that do not yet have a rare item but you do. I have heard that if you let the computer lottery, you may actually recieve a second rare item when in a group. I believe that square would have corrected the error during beta testing though. Put another post to let me know if this still happens (has never happened to me).
Read the manual. It clearly states that items classified as Exclusive may not be traded to other players. As for Rare (which the Mist Silk Cape is classified as), you cannot carry more than one item classified as Rare. This is no typo, believe me. Furthermore, Rare items will not drop if you and everyone in your party/alliance already have one of that item. I'd check and recheck to make sure you actually have 2 Mist Silk Capes on one character before you go spreading false information.
Rare items will not drop if you and everyone in your party/alliance already have one of that item
Not true, unless you meant rare and not rare/ex. Last night 5/26/2004 farming wadi grass and gobs in Dangruf. I had a Dangruf Chest Key (rare/ex) on me and received another one, it was immediately lost and showed me the 'you don't meet the requirements to receive this item' message.
The several times I have found SpiSpi and killed him, all but one had been in the same place and time. As you run up the mouth of the north-most river, on the left is the clump of rocks. SpiSpi spawns there, or further north. One time only did I see him in a different location, and that was right at the very mouth of the river.
I waited for around 3-4 hours just killing stuff, when he spawned it was right on the obrder of J-6 and K-6 on the S side of the river. I had a hard time soloing him War12/mnk. and only got silk thread which isnt too bad I suppose. But there were several high lvl ********* "waiting" by killing all the low lvl creatures..i.e. ruining the exp for everyone who was actually there to lvl.
I found him twice the other day. Both times he was on the border of I-7 and J-7. I will be hunting him more when I gain a level or two and can solo him.
I have also discovered you can only have one Mist Silk Cape at a time, so if you already have one, sell it before hunting again.
Last night, my high level party and I spread out over the radius we thought it would show up, just killing stuff while we waited. It showed up near the middle of your range. We only got a silk thread drop, though...which was too bad. It was sooo easy to kill though! I was playing as a 16 BRD with a 50BLK/25WHM LS friend, and I mutilated it with perhaps two his of my fists and a cast of banish? Sad...but definately worth it.
Also, its spawn times are not activated. It spawns every three hours, regardless of somebody killing the previous spawn.
Yeah made it spawn and killed it 2 days in a row and on my second try i got the Mist silk cape hehe
First spawn was right beside the tree near the river (its a little outside the range showed on ther map) and the other spawn was right in the middle of the red circle.
And to make it spawn ... im killing the mobs spawning near the trees near the stone monument and thats all i do.
I searched for four hours yesterday, lots of normal crawlers but no spiny.

#Anonymous,
Posted:Dec 05 2003 at 9:21 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i know this is the section on spiny but i need as much exposure here. when dose he spawn how often?
I would definately like to know this as well. I have travelled all around the zone where he may spawn for hours and hours and the only time i ever saw him was when I logged on the game to start looking for him again, and he was right on top of me. What luck. Of course, no drops.
So maybe all you people out there that say they kill him all the time can fill us in on some info and give us a chance at the *******. Does he have a specific spawn rate? Or does he spawn after so many crawlers are killed? Or are there Crawler place holders for him in that area, and every time you kill a crawler, there is a chance the next crawler that spawns in that place is Spiny? Or does he spawn on certain days, certain weather, certain times of the day, or after a specific event occurs?
So many questions. I have seen many posters who keep track of how often they killed spiny spipi, so maybe they can answer some of these questions, please. Thank you. Or email me if you want to hunt one with me on Alexander.
