I've been catching Noble ladys, Cone Calamary, and bluetails with a Minnow and a Halcyon Rod and I'm only lvl 14 fishing, they are a little hard to catch but the Calamary is easier to fish up X.x Bluetails suck to get up ^.^
These fish DO stack.

wow it caps at 66 and i caught it at 21. Fishing is weird like that lol. You can catch stuff that is beyond your skill lvl sometimes, but you wont get skill ups. I think... yeah... maybe.

crafting is like that too. It's not that you won't get skill ups ... they just won't be as common than with things closer to your lvl range.

You can definitely skillup on fish out of your range. If you're below the minimum, there's just a chance for, "you lost this fish due to lack of skill." It's rare, but it happens.

On a side note, I lost a fish due to lack of skill once AND got a .2 skillup.

Here's my info on this.
Location: Ferry(Selbina/Mhaura)
Rod: Halycon
Bait: Shrimp Lure

My skill was at 18 when I was fishing for Nebimonites. Out of 5 trips on the Ferry I caught (9)Noble Lady and (18)Nebimonite. Canceled all catches with "!!!" message, also most "Bad feelings". Out of the 5 "Bad feelings" I had, I snapped my line 1 time, caught (3)Noble Lady and (1) Neb~. Only received 0.2 skill up total during the hour or so on the ferry.

I was trying my luck on nebs on the ferry and caught a few of these at level 11 with a shimp lure. I lost my lure after an hour and had to go home.

This fish is a very good gil profit. You can catch on ferry in selbina/mhaura with hume/composite rod and a minnow/sinking minnow/shrimp lure. I would recomend a minnow because they are cheap and sold on the ferry. They cap at ~65.

Does anyone have any tips for what rod/bait is best to use for catching these, and where to fish?

These are also sold at the fishing guild in windurst, or was when I last checked it. The cost was around 4.5k each. AH showed much lower costs so check there first, although I only saw one single selling atm (history showing singles going for 1-2k)
Also people please note this is a fish so it can only be eaten my mithra. I would post corrections but I am at work =P

This fish costs a whopping 11,000+ gil from the NPC inside the fishing guild in Selbina!

Edit: It also sells for 9,000+ gil from one of the NPC's on the ferry.
