Tree Cuttings, Farming and growing.....
# Jun 27 2005 at 3:53 PM Rating: Decent
Hey fellow FFXI players. I have not postted in a while and thought i might try and help you all out a bit with the whole issue of "tree cuttings".
I have been planting these for quite some time now .. I have 2 mules with 10 pots in each mog House. I have ALWAYS planted my tree cuttings on darksday. If I can, I will plant them at full moon or new moon. Not sure if this has any true bearing, but I am sticking to it. Once you have planted your tree cuttings make sure that you check on your cuttings once a ( Real Time) day. If you want to grow saplings... DO NOT feed them any crystals when the time come to do so. Just keep checking them like normal. After about 15 days your Cuttings will be ready to harvest. Do your best to Harvest these on Lightsday for best results. I have tried Watersday, Earthsday, etc.. and I seem to get better harvesting ( 2 tree saplings per pot.
Now.. if you want to grow other things like nuggets, coins, clusters, etc... there is a great page by PIKKO for growing tablets...
http://www.swapsonian.com/pikko/recipes-item.html

Now.. as for gil sellers... I HATE THEM WITH A PASSION !!! It is because of them that the drop rates on tree cuttings from Gobuues is what it is. If this mob was not farmed 24/7/365 the drops might be better. ALSO... because of gil sellers.... the price for stack of tree cuttings is a steady 90-100k per stack on Sylph server. Just about every stack sold on Jueno AH is a gil seller. weather it be Sanctuary of Zi'tah, Pashow marshland, Rolandberry Fields, or Boyhada Tree.. Tree Cuttings will always be one of those item that will not drop every time. Just like Silk Thread, Spider Webs, etc....

On a last note...IMO... there is a huge difference between "GIL sellers" and "GIL farmers".

Gil Sellers- Characters that stay in one zone 24/7/365 farming over and over and over and over.... to just sell that item at AH for gil to sell to a Internet company.

Gil farmers- Character/Players that go out and farm items for synthing, desynthing, growing, Planting, or jsut plain selling at the AH to make gil, NOT FOR PROFIT, but so that they can buy items that they need ( i.e.- Armor, weapons, food, medicinals, etc... )

Thanks for listening.... BTW... Did I tell you that I HATE GIL SELLERS !!!!

dude, nice post, thanks for the advice. First off let me just say I agree with your feelings about gil sellers 100%. However, what is a bigger problem gil sellers, the people who buy the gil, or the web sites for providing an avenue for this type of activity? My opinion is that they are all to blame! The people who want a quick fix to their gil problems go to these sites, buy gil, and spend it in game causing inflation the same way counterfeit money does in our real life economy. My suggestion is that SE take legal action against these web sites for trademark infringement because they are conducting a profitable business using the ffxi name. Without the sites who will gil sellers sell to, and just as importantly, how will people buy it?

My 2 gils.

ARRRRRRGGG THE PRICE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SELLERS OR THE BUYERS THE PRIC IS CUZ OF PPL WHO CAMP AGAINST SELLERS AND BELIEVE THAT THEY SHOULD GET A CRAP LOAD OF MONEY FOR THIER EFFORT AND PPL WHO CAMP AFTER THOSE JACKED UP PRICES JUST KEEP IT AT THAT PRICE, GILSELLERS DO NOT MAKE PRICES HIGH PLAYERS DO!!! <END> rant...

When I first started out farming cuttings, i didnt have thf sub (newb mistake lol) but in an hour, i had managed to get a stack of cuttings. Now, with a thf sub of lv 15, I'm lucky to get one an hour! This is bullcrap! Did SE change it up or something????
Drop Rate
# Mar 15 2005 at 11:57 AM Rating: Decent
I don't know if its just a string of bad luck or what. I used to be able to get a stack of these things no problem in 3-4 hours. Now I'm lucky if I get 1 in that time.
Zi'tah
# Mar 09 2005 at 12:45 PM Rating: Good
I was recently heading to boyahda tree for a exp party and we were in the zi'tah zone waiting for everyone to get there so we started killing gobbue for warmup. we had thf with th2 and we killed about 8 before everyone was ready to go. 3x drops off those 8. next day I go back hoping to skill up while farming and place is crawling with farmers. /fume

added the following comment in retrospect.
Confused about prices now. Both the cutting and saplings go for 10-15k on fenrir. Why would someone waste nearly a month to grow these when there the same cost as the desired result. Other than the chance of harvesting multiples, I see little reason to grow these.

Ok,

I know everything in gardening depends on the element associated with every item and day. The elemental breakdown for pots is this:
Brass=Fire
Earthen=Earth
Ceramic=Water
Porcelein=Wind
(I know all pots have the Earth Element at the bottom of the info tab, but that is not their actual gardening element)
The elemental breakdown for seeds is this:
Grain=Fire
Vegetable=Earth
Fruit=Water
Herb=Wind

There is a real good guide in the guide section on Allakazham that explains this. My question is, what are the elements of the missing Tree Cutting and Tree Sapling? Does anyone that understands the elemental system that governs gardening know the answer to this?

Thanks in advance.

Alright, I'm on Midgardsormr server, and we are haveing a fairly huge problem with the Gil Farmers, they are takeing over bassicly everything. The cuttings are a huge example, they were going for about 50k a month ago, they are now up to 90k and sapplings are up to 150k. Reason? Seams like a pretty low gil thing to farm, but look at this. Tree Cuttings > Tree Sapplings > Element Ore > Element Staffs. Let's say your a Gil farmer and you have a lvl 100 woodworking. If you go to zitah and farm goobbues, you can EASILY get a stack in about 2-3 hours, then you jack up the price. People buy them and want to make money so the price of sapplings goes up. Well, people who grow the ore need to buy sapplings and the harvest rate on them is fairly low, and you have to be an addict. Alot of time and effort to make the ore. So the Ore goes up, because again the people who bought the sapplings need money. THEN, people buying the ore to make the staffs, well they also don't want to go broke, so the elem staffs go up, and the people who orrigionaly jacked up the price of the cuttings, they take that money and buy the ore that other people make, and shell out a +1 elem staff that was going for 1 mil is not going for 1.8 mil and rising. I am a lvl 55 smn and I am 7/8 elem staffs and I have paid 1.1 mil for those, and the last one (Fire staff) has been going up from 150k to 300k in the past 3 weeks >< Damn good strategy for farmers, they jack up the Base price to raise the +1 price, and make there money that way. And in the process, blm's and smn's who buy the full set get shafted. But then again, I've heard that Midgardsormr has the worst econemy in all servers... Whatever, everytyhing is going up, I'll just have to live with it I guess ><

i just read this and agree, your 99% right about the path from cutting to staff it's cutting> sapling> ore> pearl> staff. goldsmith 87 is the cap for pearls. Not sure what prices are your server, but right now it's like this on Phenix: cuttings 120k stack, saplings 200k stack, elemental ore 250k/ea, elemental pearl 250k/ea NQstaff 100-200k, HQstaff 1M .

I garden all the time and I can tell you that there is no special strategy with this. You plant cuttings and that's it. Just check them everyday. If you dont check them they will die. Anything you garden is this way (unless you plant a crystal, it will change the outcome). And about pots... the best is Arcane (good luck aquiring this pot). Next best is Porcelain pots and Bronze pots, the most affordable next to Arcane. Ceramic is the cheapest and slowest. It doesnt matter what you put in them, you will get random results of the combination. Some pots yeild more than others, and some are faster growing than others. Depends on what you want to grow. But cuttings... just plant them and check them. That be it for them.

Well, first off I hate to bust your bubble on this but trying to find out much infromation on this subject is next to impossible. Sometime ago I tried to research what I could on it and had minimal success with that. About as much success as I had actually growing it. I did manage to pay for my investment with a little extra return but mostly the POS on here come up with crap saying that they don't want to upset others by giving out the secret which is the purpose of a forum (to perfect a process). Mostly I have come to the conclusion that they are either full of it, full of them themselves or morons for being paranoid of what others think of giving out secrets.

It's too bad I can't enjoy farming this anymore...before I used to make about 70k gil in about 2 or 3 hours farming these at Zitah, but now there is always a party of 6 Chinese gil farmers, mostly Dragoons who I suspect work for IGE, a gil selling website. They sell gil and other virtual currency for money ;_; It's hard to compete against 6 for the pulls. Also, I can't farm Astral Rings anymore either, 5 thiefs and a whm party are there 24 hours per day, 7 days per week....you can see it at my AH, 9 out of 10 Astral rings are sold by 1 character.
RE: Gil Farmers
# Nov 21 2004 at 8:51 PM Rating: Default
they are gil SELLERS not FARMERS. if you kill a monster and sell it's item for gil, you're a gil farmer. and dont assume they work for IGE. there's a ton of gil selling sites. IGE is just the most well known. and gil selling is wrong. like profiling.
RE: Gil Farmers
# Dec 26 2004 at 8:50 PM Rating: Default
I assumed they were Chinese Gil farmers because IGE is the only Chinese based gil selling website I know of...all of these players are Chinese, do you know of any Japanese guy with a character named Xiuxao? I didnt think so...and no they don't speak english. So dont assume I didnt know what I was talking about ;) And yes I know it's better said they are gil sellers than gil farmers, but everyone knows em as gil farmers...And you said it yourself, when you kill a monster to sell for gil youre a gil farmer...well what the hell do you think they are doing? except after they kill the mob and sell the item for gil,they sell the gil to others :P Either way you know what I meant...
Oh and I bet you didn't know that IGE owns some of those other gil selling websites @_@. They pretty much monopolize the gil selling, they are sellers on more than 10 RPG games.

You don't understand, IGE has people working for them to get gil to sell to others, and those people are usually from China. IGE doesnt buy gil...they sell it. They used to buy gil from anyone to sell for almost twice the price, but now that they grew, they only sell by large amounts.
RE: Gil Farmers
# Jan 28 2006 at 1:27 PM Rating: Decent
Actually, IGE is possibly one of the few sites that explicitly DOESN'T buy gil from Chinese farmers. Blame your fellow American players for IGE.

about how often will this drop with Treasure Hunter 2?
RE: ???
# Oct 28 2004 at 9:35 PM Rating: Decent
If you have Treasure Hunter 2, try it out. The obvious answer to your question is: The more you kill, the better chance of more drops. I was in the Marshland as 30/15 WAR/THF, killed about 10+ Goobbues, and only received 1 Tree cutting.

RE: ???
# Feb 09 2005 at 11:06 PM Rating: Decent
2 Lvls from Treasure Hunter2. I got my first tree cutting, farming with a blm friend of mine. Got it on the first kill. I suspect the higher the lvl the better the drop sometimes with the fact that my lvl 60 DRG friend kills elementals and gets 4 drops alone, but i get 1 cluster with TH1. But i've noticed when i have a pt that i get more clusters, but usually like 2 or 3.

TH2 only affects items drops which are Rare or Ex or Rare/Ex. Only TH1 helps regular item drop rates.
RE: ?
# May 19 2005 at 10:56 AM Rating: Decent
I thought that rare/exclusive items were unaffected with TH. Does not TH and TH2 stack for better drop rates? Are you sure about your info? Normally I try not to bother answering questions from months ago, cause chances are the page was updated or user got there question answers by other means.

Yes, don't /panic! (unless you are a Taru, then by all means, /panic!)

The moogle may tell you that your plants "aren't doing very well" but as long as you keep checking them at least once a day you can still get a good harvest, even without feeding them!

Depends on your elemental ore yield. If you can get 1-2 ores from 10 pots, then thats 300-400k right there. But dont forget if you bought the tree saplings, it cost you 10k each, so you're down 100k. If you bought tree cutting, then you're down 50k, and then need another month until you can actually yield ores. If you buy tree cuttings (50K) and make gold beastcoins, 4 gold beastcoins x 10 pots = 40 gold beast coins = ... 360k. That is also a 310k profit.

Somehow everyone thinks that there is only one profitable recipe, but indeed there are many ways to make money from gardening. So by all means, grow gold beastcoins and fill the void in the market! You'll be rich for doing so.
