I don't know if anyone really cares but the Philosophers Stone is based around something Alchemists tried to do years ago: turn lead into gold. Many of you might say, "How stupid," but its actually not so stupid. With modern technology making gold out of lead is a reality, only problem is its much more expensive to do then the gold is worth.

I Don't Know About Turning Lead Into Gold, But You Could Probably Turn Something Like Tungsten Into Gold By Beta Decay

Judging by the CaPiTaLiZaTiOn, this guy's pitching a movie or something.

Lol, making gold from lead is impossible. A basic knowledge of the elements would tell you that. Lead and Gold are both basic elements. In order to extract any element from a material, it would have to be part of a compound. Like getting hydrogen from H20.

You are probably thinking of diamonds. Diamonds ARE able to be created by people, and it is done quite often today. But just like pearls...a man made one is not as valuable.

When you get past grade 8 science, you realize that...

Gold has an atomic number of 79
Lead has an atomic number of 82

...that means that each Pb (Lead) atom has 82 electrons, and protons...
...and that Au (Gold) has 79 electrons and protons...

Now...with that knowledge, you will realize that if you remove three protons, and three elections, you have a new element, gold.

Hmm... just like I have a little more than basic knowledge of the elements and I can say you can turn Plutonium into Americium.

Would I be wrong? Perhaps it just takes a little more than basic knowledge to know...

No, i say you could turn lead into gold, but only if you were able to manipulate the atomic structure of the element.

No, medieval alchemists believed with the right formula they could turn lead to gold. Yes it is impossible, but they didnt know that then.

I heard this was crafted.

However, you can't be "a normal alchemist."

The recipe is dark crystal, a roomfull of prisoners, a couple giant canasters of pure red water, and there needs to be wierd glyphs all over the room you create it in.
