Summary

An adventurer has been attacked while on an investigation to Xarcabard -- and the attacker is said to be none other than the Dark Knight, Zeid! Report to the President's Office for a briefing on the situation at hand.

Walkthrough

Accept the mission from a Bastok gate guard. Then go the president's office in the Metalworks. Talk to Iron Eater for a cutscene!

After the cutscene, head to the Throne Room in Castle Zvahl Keep for a BCNM fight against Zeid. Volker will join your party in battle after a brief cutscene when Zeid is at roughly 65 percent HP. You lose the fight if Volker dies in battle.

Battle notes about Zeid:

  • Zeid can use all great sword weaponskills up to ground strike, which he uses often. He also casts absorb spells.
  • Zeid uses an AoE weaponskill called Shockwave that can sleep everyone. Melees can avoid the effect by staying far enough away. Melee may want to use poison potions.
  • Zeid uses abyssal strike -- a ranged attack that causes stun -- and abyssal drain, which is comparable to the normal drain spell.
  • Zeid appears to have TP regain.
  • Zeid will spawn two mobs called Shadow of Rage, which are as strong as Zeid but have very low HP. They have the same attacks as Zeid. The shadow mobs can be killed with a single -ga spell, but Zeid can recall them later in the fight.

After the fight there is another cutscene. Then head back to Bastok and talk to Iron Eater at the president's office in the Metalworks to finish the mission.

Real intelligent considering you have to scroll DOWN to read the rest of the list. At least you didn't give out the details of any Cutscenes....

Did this last Tuesday with the following set-up:

65 DRK
65 RDM (me)
70 BLM
70 WHM
75 NIN
75 BRD

The fight was a lot easier than I expected. We had a great team, so perhaps that was the key to winning. I did the usual RDM thing with refresh/enfeeb/a little nuking from my /BLM sub. A soon as Volker jumped in, we waited through the cutscene and then proceeded to kick ***. I saw the shadows appear for a fraction of a second, lol, and then it was over...we had defeated them. Turns out we beat the record on Ragnarok server by finishing in 5 Minutes, 38 seconds (or something like that). :)

Did this with little difficulty with the following set-up:

PLD67
PLD65
RDM72 (/BLM -> Me ^^)
BLM75
BRD75
WHM65

67PLD Seriously tanked it no problem. Zeid's slow but hits really hard, and by the time Volker came out he was barely in yellow (800HP I think) and both the tanking PLD and the WHM still had close to full MP.

Zeid only did his sleep WS once, but all mages had poison pots on anyway. The shadows are nothing to worry about with a Tier 3 -Ga (Which has been said many times >.>)

The other party we did 9-1 with went in with this set-up:
BST71
RDM74 (/WHM)
RDM65 (/BLM)
SMN67
WHM72
PLD69

They've fought it twice now and lost both times. I honestly believe the key to this battle is a BLM to get rid of the shadows quickly. Add in a good tank and I think the rest is just icing on the cake.
We wiped him out on Cerberus~

For anybody interested in tanking this Boss. I did it as a 70PLD with no problems. Just make sure you have a balanced party and tank him like usual.

Have mage's use a -ga spell on the Shadows like the walkthru reccomends.

Party was;
Meridius - (PLD-70)
Banigaru - (BRD-75)
Thelan - (RNG-70)
Katta - (WHM-63)
Toxic - (BLM-75)
Raif - (DRG-64)

We set the Record time on 'Cerberus' Server with 4 minutes 55 seconds

Gonna go hang up my Bastokan Flag now, good luck everyone.
Zeid 2 - Our Party 1...but 1 that counts
# Jul 08 2005 at 2:34 AM Rating: Default
Ok, here's my 2 cents (better late then never I guess)

I just finished this fight, with a very odd setup. We had a 10 person alliance climb the castle to the throne room and from there we figured out which party combos to go with.

Our first two attempts ended in total wipeouts because of one thing, we didn't take out the shadows fast enough. But both the Third and Forth attempts were a success, the winning parties were:
65PLD(me), 75BLM, 63RDM, 62WHM, 73WAR and 71DRG
and
75PLD, 73WAR, 75RDM, 75BLM, 63RDM, 69DRK

the second setup was the expected winner, since they had the bigger tank and overall stronger party, however my party with me tanking at 65 worked very well too. On my first attempt I was using my standard Sword/Shield Combo (Gluttony Sword and Royal Guards Shield) and I was getting hit extreamly hard, average of 150+ near 300 on critical hits. Then after we wiped, the other party got ready to go, I said to the other pld, try using your Earth Staff, so he did, when they won, and my party stepped upto the plate, I switch to my Earth Staff as well. And it really did cut the damage down, averaging ~100/hit, 200 on criticals. But the real key to winning this fight is taking out the Shadows ASAP. The blm just let em have it with Firaga III and dropped them pretty quick. I had to cover him after the second set of shadows but by then Zeid was almost ready to drop anyway. We won this fight without using any 2hrs, and very little food.

Oh, and one very helpful hint, that I didn't see mentioned here, Zeid CAN be silenced very easily, our lvl 62RDM landed silence everytime.
I missed out ; ;

We won on our second attempt. The first attempt had 75 DRK (killed in first 2 seconds of battle), 71 THF, 70 BLM, 66 RDM, 64 NIN, and 63 I forget. We came close to winning, even with just 5 of us.

On our second attempt the party changed to 75 DRK, 74 RDM, 71 THF, 70 BLM, 66 RDM, and 64 NIN. While it took 7 minutes something, it felt a lot quicker. Once the shadows spawned, it was over. The BLM this time did Firga III and everything took 680 or so dmg.

IBHalliwell - Rank 10!!! WOOT!!

After reading all the info here we went ahead and did 9-1 and 9-2 tonight.

We had probably the worst setup for this ever: 71 blm, 74 blm, 73 rdm, 70 nin, 71 pld, 75 sam. I honestly didn't know if we could beat it but hey we were there and it was worth a shot. We set the record on Gilgamesh >< 6 mins and some odd seconds. It wasn't near as tough as I had thought it would be, none of us had to 2hr. He didn't do his sleep bit, Volker didn't get hit and only 2 shadows had time to spawn lol.

I'm still kind of amazed we beat it let alone set a record o.O

Just did this last night with:

73 PLD/WAR
74 THF/NIN
74 BLM/WHM
73 RDM/BLM
73 WHM/SMN
73 BRD/WHM

We were worried we'd be short on damage and have some trouble with the battle, but honestly... this was way easier than any of us imagined it would be. It was a bit deflating actually.

On the way to the BC nothing aggrod. There were a couple of EP mobs but everything else was TW.

At the BC we buffed up and entered. The PLD and THF slept TP (which was probably not necessary). The PLD and THF were hasted and the BRD put the appropriate buffs on everyone. Opening up with a skillchain was just silly. He went into his cut scene in about 1-2 minutes. We drank poison pots too but I don't even remember him using that weapon skill.

I (the WHM) still had over 900 mp after the cut scene was over so I didn't even have to med. I just redid Aerial Armor for the PLD and we didn't even wait the full 1 minute or however long you get until Volker rushes in.

Zeid did basically open with a weapon skill, but the Aerial Armor negated it. He spawned shadows twice for us but our BLM overkilled them in one shot with his highest ~aga spell. When Zeid used blood weapon our PLD just kited him around a bit (he is *very* slow... gravity made him stupid slow). Then we just... killed him. Very easy.

Our PLD even got skillchained by the shadows once but that was during the kiting of Zeid so he didn't get light skillchained but our BLM had the shadows dead 3 seconds later. Our PLD never dropped below 800hps.

I would guess that a good party of 67-68s could pull this off. It would be difficult, and 2hr worthy, but this was just a joke at 73 and 74. A good party of 67s with a high level tank or a high level BLM would have *no* problem, assuming you are all decent players and know how to play your jobs well.

Honestly, I was a bit disappointed in how easy this fight was. If you don't want to be disappointed try it at level 70 or less lol. Good luck getting rank 10!
hmm

I did the battle three times as a LVL62 Bard, and my Carnage Elegy was only resisted once out of five casts. I did also did Magic Finale whenever Zeid did an ABS-X spell. No resists there either. I did cast Foe Requiem once or twice and I remember it being resisted once.

I'm not sure what level Zeid is supposed to be but if a LVL62 was able to land debuffs then he couldn't be much higher than 70. The alliance that completed this mission was made up of mostly 70+ players, and the battles were quick and easy.

My first time in, an RDM75 did a full 50% of the damage to Zeid. Definitely the MVP of the fight. My second time, he was replaced with an RDM65, whose nukes almost never hit for more than 30 damage. What a difference 10 levels makes.

/sigh just did this last night, freat as it was to finesh all the bastok missions i'll miss the zany antics of the bastok government

well party set up was 71 pld/war, 68 drg/war(moi), 72 blm/whm, 70+blm/whm(forget what lvl exactly) 73 rdm/blm and 65 pld/war

we had allienced threw 9-1 and most of us went on to 9-2 in allience, split people up into groups for the BCNM, our party set up was abiiiiiit odd, but we beat the bcnm with no deaths, only once did people go into red for the fight, he hit the sleepaga aoe only once after volker joined(my poison potion just ran out as he used it, d'oh!)

Looking for a quick yes/no from someone that has actually completed this please. I got rank 10 as Bastok, then switched to Sandy. I'm currently Rank 9 in Sandy. My friend is getting ready for 9-2 for Bastok and I want to help.

So, anyone who has completed Rank 10 for Bastok, then switched to another country, then attempted to help with 9-2 for Bastok while their allegience is with another city, please respond with a simple yes/no if I can help.

Thank You

This was soo easy pt set up was 75rdm/nin(tank), 75rng, 75whm, 73thf(me), 71blm, and a 65brd. We owned him only one death and that was the rng this BC was {Too Weak!}

pt setup: 70war/nin(me), 73pld/war. 72rdm/whm, 70blm,whm, 70thf/nin, 75sam/???

the pld, blm, rdm, and sam along with a 65rng and 75whm attempted it before my pt went
they died the first time because they failed to take out the Shadows of Rage quickly and the pld died from a light skillchain as previoulsy posted.
they went in again a second time and succeeded

the whm, rdm, blm and pld were to help me and the thf go next but the whm logged :/ so the sam took his place

didnt think it was the best setup espeically with no two hours for the pld and blm and sam since they used them already, but after a long night, we decided to give it a go

go in, pld vokes, hit Zeid a bit, thf and sam perform a light skillchain, about 75% health left we get the cutscene
no worries yet

mages rest up during the brief 30 seconds or so before Volker engages Zeid
when Volker engages Zeid, i immediately provoke him, and i must say, /nin really comes in handy
as others had posted, Zeid goes all out in his initial attack, using ground strike and such
but of course, with utsusemi, my shadows absorb everything and the pld resumes tanking of Zeid after my shadows run out

eventually, Zeid spawns two Shadows of Rage. They have approximately have ~500hp, because the -aga III spell cast by the blm would do about 475 damage and they would have a slither of life left. as a precautionary measure, I went after the shadows to ensure they didnt get off any weaponskills. Then its jsut a cycle, of beating on Zeid, killing his Shadows, etc
He does use blood weapon and I was able to get hate from the pld at this time to negate the effects of it for awhile. Zeid eventually falls
and rank 10 is ours! :)

was quite amazed that we were able to do so well
never once was there any sign of trouble
i dont think one cure was even cast on Volker
also, once you beat it, you are just warped outside the BCNM in the throne room, and can go fight it again immediately given that there is someone in the pt who still needs to fight him

One word to desribe this battle:

CAKE

and it would have to be cake after the horror that is bastok 9-1. 69 PLD, 74 WHM, 67 RDM, 75 RNG, 67 BLM, 71 BLM (ME!!). Let's say he could have saved us a lot of time if he's just fall on his sword when he heard we were coming.
Killing the Shadows of Rage Quickly

The guides here are right on. I cannot begin to stress how important it is for the Shadows of Rage to be killed quickly. A BLM can kill them easily with a high level Lv3 -ga spell, but it's just as feasable to have a SAM pop Meditate for them, which is what my PT setup did. Our first time through we had two PTs go at the same time, both groups focused solely on Zeid. Invincible held off the Shadows (and their light skillchain), but as soon as it dropped they quickly ripped me and my PT members to shreds. Every time Zeid spawns Shadows, ALL PT MEMBERS - except the tank and one healer for the tank - should switch over, and begin killing these Shadows. After that it's pretty typical EXP fight, just keep laying down the damage until he goes down.
