Well seeing as how DESYNTH (Using a Lightning Crystal to obtain an item) is a 50/50 chance, you most likely didnt pay attention to day/time/ect.
Next time try it on Darksday and maybe under a full/new moon?

Desynth isn't limited to lightning crystals.
I had been looking for the merchant who sells this but couldn't find out which region he imported from. After a little more searching I finally found out:
