I have a real hard time leveling my staff. No matter what I fight, nothing happens.
Yeah. Staff is one of the hardest weapons to skill up. It almost never happens, even against IT or whatever.
For example: I had been using Staff all my Blm life, and got virtally no where in skil ups, but then the first time I got my Blm high enough to use the Mandi Sickle, I FLEW up in levels. I went 0 to capped (I was 47) in one night.
Personally, I would go Holly/Willow Log + Wind Crystal to make the appropriate lumber. Holly caps earlier than Willow, and they are both logged from the Ghelpsa Outpost. I always do synth's that are 5-8 lvls higher than me for faster skill up. If your looking to take it safe than you can do 1-4 lvls above you. Also, anything with a cap of 6 higher than you, get paid support, its definitely worth it! RATE IT UP~ /logout
To raise weapon skills, equip the weapon and check the mobs. When you find some that are too weak to be worthwhile with high defense, you've found some great skillup mobs. Equip a low damage weapon and beef up on ACC if possible. STR and ATK only kill the mob faster, so you don't want to raise these stats with food or equipment.
You don't even need to GET exp to raise your weapon skill. As long as you are fighting that is higher than you weapon skill currently is, you will gain skill points. When you go to /c something, it will say its experience Lv to you, and its weapon skill to you. Anything that is more than Low DEF AND Low EVA will give you skill ups.

Yeah. The deal with levelling weapon skills is that you can just get to the point where you're so bad at it that it won't level against hard enemies. For instance. When I'm a lvl 33 blm with level 50 club skill and I'm meleeing Sand Beetles for the hell of it I never get a skill up even when I hit and do damage. If I did get a skill up it would probably be about .5 points though ^^. Were I to drop back to something like Leeches then I could probably level my club skill, because they're nearer the range of stuff I could consistantly hit. Basically your hit can't be luck to raise your skill, it has to be a skill hit.
