Mission Orders

The Minister of the Orastery is conducting an experiment in the eastern magic tower of the Horutoto Ruins, located in East Sarutabaruta. Inquire at the Orastery first, then go assist him.

Walkthrough

Talk to one of the gate guards and he sends you to the Orastery in Port Windurst. Talk to Hakkuru-Rinkuru on the stage to trigger a cutscene. After that, head to East Sarutabaruta and go to the (J-7) entrance to the Inner Horutoto Ruins.

Speak to Sama Gohjima, who is standing outside, before entering.

You should be in the Lily Tower. Head down the stairs to the ruins and circle around the large room. You are looking for a "Cracked Wall" on the South wall. Follow along until you get to a gate at (I-9). Enter there for another cutscene. After this, you need to search through the six different spheres until you find the key item: Cracked Mana Orb. The key item will be at a random sphere. Take the key item back to Hakkuru-Rinkuru to complete this mission.

Orbs don't like me
# Aug 30 2009 at 12:08 AM Rating: Decent
Yes I can read :-) and I checked all of the other posts.

I got the mission, got the cut scene in the lab.

I opened two of the magical devices and saw working orbs. Now, I can't open any of the other 4 devices in the lab (and also can't open the two that I previously could open).

Any idea why I'm stuck and can't open the other devices?

- Trips

EDIT WITH SOLUTION:

OK it turns out I can't read... at least, not all of what the game showed me. Upon examining the second magical device it gave me the same message as after the first magical device, "this orb appears to be functioning" (paraphrasing since this was last night). THEN, it told me that I acquired the broken mana orb. I went back and checked the chat log... that's how it happened. Anyway, thought I would leave this up in case it helps anyone else.

We're all really making this a lot more complicated than it needs to be, especially for the first mission. For the last time, here's a full tutorial, sorry don't have the patience or skills to do a fancy map, i'll give you directions just use the in-game map you get from the Glyph Hanger quest. I did this mission easily at level 7 red mage. Though its reccommended to be level 8 or 9, 7 was just enough for me.

Talk to a guard and accept the mission. Go to the orastery. There are 2 tarutaru on a raised stage, talk to them. Go to EAST Sarutabaruta. Once you get there, look at the map. There are 3 towers, one on the far north end, one on the far south end, and one right in the middle. Go to the Middle one. inside the tower will be a set of descending stairs and an NPC, YOU MUST TALK TO THIS NPC, if you don't you cannot continue. Talk to her then head down the stairs. In the ruins, you will be in a hallway, follow this hallway east, then south, then west. When you reach the second room with 2 battue bats, you will turn south and enter a large, square room. From here, make your way around the room to the south end. At level 7, all the mobs in here are "easy prey" but they like to hang out in groups so be careful. When you reach the south side of the room, go to the southern wall. In the exact center of this wall you can select a "Cracked Wall" and open it. Can't open it you say? Did you talk to the NPC at the top of the stairs? If not, commence swearing then trek back and talk to her and redo everything. Anyway open the "Cracked Wall" and head into this new area. In here, the mobs will become "decent challenge" so have extra caution. Run forward to a fork and take the left path. In these halls will probably be a couple roaming Blade Bats so take them out one at a time, be careful not to attract both of them at once. At the end of the left fork is a room. I don't know if its the same all the time, but on my trip, this room had 1 Blade Bat, 1 Goblin Thug, and 1 Goblin Weaver. The thug was "easy prey" but the other two were decent challenges for me, tough to take on all at once. If you have patience, and I mean ALOT of patience, you can wait for them to wander apart and pull them one at a time with ranged attacks. Or, if you're careful, you can try the sneaky method. Wait for all 3 mobs to wander away from the door, which is to the right when you enter the room. Anyway, wait for them to wander away, then hug the right hand wall and enter the room. Just inside, turn south and move to the next wall then turn east, hugging the wall the whole time. You should be able to make it to the door and open it. Watch the long cutscene and talk to the minister. For the last part of this mission, head back out to the large square room. On your way in, you should've seen the Ancient Gizmos on the raised platforms on the east and west sides of this large room. At each of the corners of the room are tunnels leading to more Gizmos, 6 in all. You have to search each of these Gizmos until you find the broken Mana Orb, took me all 6, go figure. Once you find it, head all the way back to the orastery, turn in the orb and congratulate yourself on finishing the mission. Go to the guard and do the next mission now.

Sorry for the long post, but this is how to do it, no more questions.

I was trying for days to do this mission. It's very easy to get into thinking the cracked wall in the side rooms where the mana orbs are is where you are meant to go... I went in there and always got killed by the beetles down there. Well, they are NOT the cracked walls you want to be going through.

If you're STILL having troubles, I have just one thing to say: GET GLASSES. It's all written here, someone's even posted a map, exact directions on where to go and who to talk to...
And if you don't want to be flamed to a crisp for asking for more help, hopefully you'll have a friend you can ask for help.
Wheres the cutscene..

Hello, I can't find the cutscene.. I've done all the initial requirements. However i can't find the minister anywhere.

No naughty ideas now. :P

Did this mission the third day I was playing. Relatively easy, just follow the forementioned from above and things should go smoothly. I tried my best to dodge the gobs, but if you MUST fight them, take them to the side so as not to link the others. That can kill you easily.
A potion or two and a group wouldn't really be needed.

Just completed this mission solo as a lvl 10 whm mithran. It was no problem at all. I just made sure that I rested frequently, and didnt pick fights I didnt need to. Blad and Battue bats dont aggro here, so no need to go after them. just make sure that you dont link gobs if you are going to attack them. At lvl 10, it was easy.

The Horutoto Ruins Experiment - This quest is pretty far out in East Saruta, it’s nice to have some friends on this one. It’s doable alone if you’re level 10, bring a potion or two.

Before you do this mission I would recommend doing the “Glyph Hanger” quest to get a map of the Horutoto Ruins.

Start by getting the quest from the guards at any gate, you have to go to Port Windurst anyway so you could just go to the gate there. The guard will tell you to go to talk to the Minister of the Orastery in Port Windurst (E-7).

Inside the Orastery there are two Tarutarus on the stage, talk to the one on the left. He will tell you to head to the Horutoto Ruins Inner in East Sarutabaruta. (Lower right corner of J-7)

When you get to Lily Tower, talk to the guard standing inside at the top of the stairs. She will tell you the Minister went ahead by himself and that you can go down there. You have to fight your way to the back of the main chamber. When you get to the main chamber, take a right, then a left, then another left. You are looking for a Crack in the wall that is directly opposite the entrance that you came in. (H-9)

Open the Crack in the wall and head down the tunnel, take a left at the fork and fight the Gobs and Bats all the way to the Magic door. Select the door and watch the cut scene.

When the cut scene is finished go back the way you came, to the Crack in the wall and into the main chamber. Fight your way to each pedestal to check each mana orb until you find the one that is broken. Fight your way back outside and head to Windurst. Go back the Orastery in Port Windurst and talk to the same Taru on the stage that you talked to before. He'll take the broken orb from you. This mission is now complete. The next time you visit the guard at the gate, you will receive rank 1.2

You take it to the Orastery in Port Windurst; did you even pay attention to any of the dialogue?
More than one tower?!
# Jan 12 2005 at 2:38 PM Rating: Decent
LOL! I wish I had read this thread before I attempted it. I set out of Port Windurst into West Sarutabaruta to "farm" for stuff with my newly leveled 7 blm. I was taking on goblins left and right with no problems and I figured, heck why not try the mission now. I spot a "tower" in the distance and head straight for it. I have the map but it didn't dawn on me that I might be in the wrong place. I'm running through looking for the cracked wall and lo and behold I run into a mass of cardians. I was able to survive my first fight with two of them but I ran into another set around the corner and got my *** handed to me on a silver platter.

Now I know - and knowing's half the battle :P

Edited to add: I just wanted to do a shout out to my friend who backed me up with his PLD to help me finish this quest and level up to a lvl 8 BLM. Thanks Dardalion on the Bahamut server!

I spent a good 2-3 hours trying this mission. First I forgot to go to the Orastery, then I didn't talk to the guard. After doing that, I went through the cracked wall in H-9, went to I-9 like the book said to find nothing. This website said go find some gate. Well I found a mohogany door, nothing else. Went into a room full of gobs (I was lvl.25) went through another cracked door, got aggroed, died, ended up back in Jeuno. I've been everywhere beyond the cracked wall, clicked on every orb thing in the main room, went through the second cracked wall in the main room. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I don't see where I am going wrong.
I've put up my mission quest for now. ***** it. I'm going to Kazham...(which is why I was in Windurst, for the key)
I'll go back sometime and ask for help. How sad asking for help, but alas, I am not wasting any more time wandering around those forsaken ruins.
Also btw, I know I am in the right tower because the guard said the orastery minister or whatever was down there.

Oh what a waste of time. >_< I could have got rank 2 in Bastok in less time...
Complaint over.

If you can see my problem, feel free. (I did do the Orastery scene, talked to the guard, just can't find the minister prick)

I was lvl 11 when I did it, fought some easy preys for 12-15xp. Talk to a gate guard, go to the orastery in port windurst, talk to the two tarus on the stage. Now head to the ruins in J-7, talk to the gard before going down. Go down until you enter a big room.

Yes, this isn't a tunnel, but a room. Turn right, then left. Do not exit the room until you see a wall with a strangely colored patch of bricks in the middle. That's the "Cracked wall" Click the thing, open the door (it's a door), head inside, turn left. Now you will find a grey door (I think it's called Hidden Door) and you must click it to trigger a cutscene. Go back to the big room, try each orbs in there and use the four dead-ends to reach the other four orbs. One of them will be cracked, it's random. You're mostly done, just have to go back to the orastery in port windurst.

I died too when I first tried this.

Tried again today, getting Rank 5 on my mule =)
My problem was I was using the cracked wall where the orbs are >_< though it's sad I never say this particular one ; ;
Thanks for the directions though, the "Do not exit the room until you see a wall with a strangely colored patch of bricks in the middle" really is what helped me find it. Thanks

Did this last night with a level 6 white mage and a level 6 black mage. It can get a bit hairy sometimes if you have to fight a weaver and a thug at the same time. We never ran into the problem of having to fight 2 weavers at the same time. If you are having problems and are right around 5-7 just get another person to come tag a long...it shouldn't take too much more than that. As noted above it's the tower on the east wall approximately in the middle of the map in East Serutaberuta. Hope this helps!
If Your Having Problems
# Apr 01 2004 at 7:16 PM Rating: Excellent
If your having some problems doing this quest and around lvl 5-7, ill save you some time then reading this entire threadh. When the quest giver tells you to go to the eastren tower, they mean the middle eastren, not south eastren tower. I went to the south eastren tower, and found tons of even/decent con gobolins, and I figured I was in the wrong spot. I had very little trouble once I found the right tower. All the bats were easy con at lvl 7, and gobolins were mostly easy. I did run into a somewhat hard spot where a thug and weaver were both decent and linked, but nothing that was impossible. Ive noticed the beginning missions for windhurst to be considerably harder then bastok ones, so dont be discougraged if your having troubles.

I did this mission solo at level 9 thief. Not very challenging for me actually. The mission was easy but i found a hole in the wall and went down it into a cave area where many tougher enemies were and there i died. So basically, if you see this area you are sidetracked off the mission and you should turn back.

Hey All,

Did the mission as lvl 5 whm taru , was scary as hell :) however very fun .

Just a note to do this as 5 whm solo

~ single kill ALWAYS
~ leave the bats alone
~ watch out for trains and repops
~ even though it is possible to skip some of the goblins i reccomend you take the time to kill them all along the way, the exp is decent and you will get far less adds. strat I used was open with banish , dia , bash em a bit then banish again. might have to throw a cure or two on urself if the gobbies are using skills ( that bomb one is mean as a taru )

take care ,

This is a repost to bring it back up top. To everyone that is having problems -- READ BEFORE YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH. *EVERY* NPC in the game that gives you a quest will *ALWAYS* point you in the proper direction. If you can not read and understand what is written in front of you, that is your fault and your fault alone.

"You start the mission from either of the guards at any of the gates (usually it's the guard in the center of each group). You are told to go to talk to the Minister of the Orastery (*NOT* the Opistery) in Port Windurst (E-7).

You'll know you have the right ministry when you open the door and see groups of Tarutarus casting magic, and two guardsmen on a stage-like elevation. Talk to the one on the left. He will refer you to head to the Horutoto Ruins Inner in *EAST* Sarutabaruta. (It may help if you have the map for the ruins. Refer to the Glyph Hanger quest to get it). The ruins you want will be in the bottom corner of J-7. You will know if you're in the correct place when you start seeing Giant Bees and Mandragoras (and maybe Spiny Spipi ^^).

When you get to the ruins, *TALK* the guard standing before the entrance. This is one of the major things everyone forgets to do and are confused as to why the door won't open. She will tell you the Minister went ahead by himself and for you to just go down there. Once inside head down the two flights of stairs until you're inside the main area of the ruins (it's straightforward with only one way to go). Since I don't see a map of the ruins on the site let me make one that should help.

E is the entrance into main part of the ruins.
X are the pedestals on which the mana orbs are placed. You will need to literally check each one to see which has the broken orb.
S is the two entrances to the lower depths of Horutoto Ruins Inner. If you click on these and see dirt instead of a brick path, you're in the wrong place unless you're looking for a quick death.
C is the cracked entrance. Click on this to open the pathway to...
M is your destination. This is where the Minister is.

Double clicking on the black door at M will go to a cutscene. After it's over, head back to the cracked door (C) to be back into the main area. Start checking each mana orb until you get the one that is broke. Find your way outside and head back to Windurst. Head on over to Port Windurst and talk to same Tarutaru on the stage. He'll tell you his opinion of the minister and take the broken orb from you. This mission is now complete :)
