Summary

You are being sent to Norg as an emissary of Bastok. Meet Sir Naji in front of the President's Office for a full briefing.

Walkthrough

For starters, from somewhere you will need to get an Adaman Ore. You only need one Adaman Ore for every 6 people.

Start by picking up the quest from any guard. You will be directed to Naji, the guard outside the President's Office, where you will be treated to a cut scene.

You will be sent to talk to Gilgamesh in Norg. If you have not entered Norg since defeating the Shadow Lord, you will be treated to a long cut scene, as well as another one when you talk to Gilgamesh. Make sure you talk to him until he tells you to retrieve a Frag Rock from Ifrit's Cauldron.

Take a chocobo to Yhoator Jungle, and take the I-5 entrance to Ifrit's Cauldron. The ??? is near to the entrance, but you still need to be careful. Bees do not agro, but bats and volcanic gasses both will. They both con DC at 63 generally, but the gasses can explode, doing over 1200 points of damage to everyone standing around. So have Barfira and Stoneskin up if these things agro, and have Stun ready. But generally try to avoid them.

From the entrance, head left at the first junction, then take the next right. At H-7, there will be a lava flow with a ??? in the middle of it. To trigger the NM, you'll need to trade an adaman ore to it. If there are any other mobs floating around (there weren't when we were there), you'll want to take care of them first. There is a volcanic gas on the other side of an impassable rock ridge, but it never linked while we were there.

There are actually two NM's: Magma (a bomb) and Salamander (a lizard). The bomb drops the Frag Rock whereas the Salamander does not. If you can figure out a way to kill the bomb without the lizard, that would be fine. As with all bombs, make sure you have Stoneskin and Barfira up and people ready with Stun. We killed it 4 times without having it explode once, so it's certainly doable. The Salamander will cast a Fireball, but it doesn't do huge amounts of damage.

Once the Magma is dead, it will drop 6 frag rocks. Each of these is Rare/Ex. Someone without a Frag Rock will have to trade the Adaman Ore, so if you are doing it multiple times, you may need to trade the 2nd or 3rd ore around some.

Once you've got your Frag Rock, return to Norg and trade your Frag Rock to Gilgamesh for a cut scene. Then return to Bastok and talk to Naji for a cut scene, Rank 7 and 40,000 gil.

I was able to solo both the Magma and Salamander as a 75PUP/WAR with the WHM Automaton, had to Role Reversal twice, and Deactivate/Activate once

I tried soloing this as BLM/RDM and failed. The major problem is it is immune to sleep (I was using Pluto and 310+ in dark skill and couldn't sleep it). Also, the attack speed is ridiculous even with shock spikes to keep it stunned; it was already getting 2 or 3 hits at me before it showed up on screen to target. Even with gravity, I can't imagine it's possible for a BLM to avoid its physical attacks enough. Definitely recommend having atleast 1 DD.
easy...

Just duo'ed this with a friend. He was 75RDM/37NIN, I was 75DRG/37SAM. He popped them and I immediately claimed the lizard while he kited the bomb and used DoT moves to get him down. Just atching what I was doing to avoid being pertifed by the lizard I easily got him down. My friend brought the bomb back to me and aparantly he's not to damaged by DoT my friend used every DoT he could and the thing was maybe 1% lower than full. I DD'ed him while friend just sat back and healed. We had him down in maybe 2-3 minutes. This is a very easy mission.

just got finished doing both 6-1 and this today, did them both in about 2 hours.
me (75pld/37war) and Niverine (friend) (74drk/37thf) just duoed this the Sphynxs and the bomb. Both were wayyyy easy with just us 2. I healed us both during the fights he just kept SA Spiral helling as much as he could. i threw in a swiftblade here and there to make darkness. Sneak Pull works like a charm i pulled the bomb without pulling the salamander AT ALL. total fight took about 5 or so minutes. Didn't use self destruct either. Hope some of that helped.

Did this last night as a 75 BST/WHM. Only used two courier carries and none of the surrounding pets. The last CC had about 10% HP left. On the first pet I used reward once. I didn't engage, but just sat back and watched.

As others have mentioned, i've sure it's just as easy as low as level 69 using the surrounding bees and bats.

I soloed this quest a few days ago as a lvl 75 MNK/NIN. This was an incredibly easy fight. I used the sneak pull trick to get the bomb alone and used Hundred Fists (I wanted to kill it quickly to try and avoid the self destruct) spamming Asuran Fists everytime i hit 100% tp. I didn't have time to hit the third asuran fists since the bomb dropped after about 45 seconds.
Easy as BST69!

Soloed as BST69/WHM34, Sneak on, while trading, Stoneskin, Blink, Barfira and reraise. Pop Courier Carrie, rest up mp, and get that Call Beast Timer down. Now, trade the Adaman Ore. Run away as fast as you can, immediately. If you do it quick enough the Magma wont hit you until you are far and the Salamander will never join the fight. I guess my Salamander stayed there and depopped, but I never went back to check. When you are out of the Salamander's area, send CC at the Magma and get away, to rest back mp and heal yourself.

Keep sending pet after pet at the Magma and it will die, eventually. use Bees and Bats and another CC, if needed. Took me 5 pets.

In the end, it's a pretty easy fight.

Just soloed this as 68 Bst/Rdm (also soloed 6-1 two weeks ago when 67)

I first killed the volcano gas on spot. And then called up CC, casted blink, stonskin, and rested up. Sneak poped magama and RAN, by the time I got first hit, I was out of lizard's aggro range. There were 3 bees on the way out and they are sufficient to finish magama. Stoneskin and blink help alot when pet swip.

It is easier to solo than 6-1 for a bst, since those bees are at lvl close to magama. Magama does seif-distruct tho, in my case, it blows itself at around 10%.

12 people whose average level is at least 60 is recommended for this quest.

What game are you playing? Jesus Christ, can you say overkill?

And self destruct isn't 1000 needles, your going to take a lot more damage than 1200 from a bomb in Ifrits.

Who writes this crap?

I was a little nervous to try this with only four people, but after soundly beating the NMs for San d'Oria 6-2, I figured this couldn't possibly be that bad. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that I had to sub NIN so my Sneak wouldn't fall when I popped the NMs. The party setup was like this:

75SAM/37WAR
75BLM/37RDM
75BLM/21NIN (yeah...gimped...that's me)
61WHM/30BLM

Sneak-pop worked extremely well, and the SAM proceeded to tank using a combination of Seigan/Third Eye, barely taking any hits. When he did take hits, he was taking pretty hefty damage (about 120-130) but he was able to hold hate just through sheer damage and the occasional Provoke.

The other BLM and I did a little bit of light nuking, but nothing impressive. At the end of the fight, we weren't really hurting...still had about 50% MP and the SAM only dropped into yellow HP once. All in all, very easy, and I get to see a shiny new "7" by my name now.

Things to note:

-You don't need a "real" tank for this. I'm of the opinion that any 75 DD could tank this thing easily. A 75RDM/NIN could probably solo it and make it look bad in the process.

-Although the bomb never tried to Self-Destruct, we did try to Stun it. Even at 75BLM with capped Dark Magic, the bomb resisted the spell. It's very hard to Stun, if it's even possible at all.

-Our BLM/RDM was able to Dispel the bomb's Berserk effect, but it was almost better to leave it on, since our SAM hit for nearly twice as much. Of course, the bomb hit for about 200, so it's a double-edged sword.

Not sure if anyone is following my posts, but i'm soloing these missions as a 75 pld with no nin sub. I loaded up just like i did for my Maat fight (carbonara, 6 hi-potions, yag drink, au-lait). Extremely dicey fight. I sneak pop and proceed to fight the bomb. I end the fight with 0 mp and 50 hp. Hands still shaking as i type this.

Just as a little note, this guy is a bomb, and it DOES self-destruct, dispite a 6 time run with no occurence.
My Buddy Choompo and I Duo'd this last night as RDM/BLM & SMN/WHM.
Had Ifrit tank. Had to recast Ifrit 3 times I think before the bomb blew him self up, I think the mob was at about 10% health b4 he exploded.

Glad I was far enough away! Rank 7 yay!

Duo'd this with BRD/NIN (me) and my wife, Chalumeau, WHM/SMN. Sneak popped and pulled the bomb to the other side of the pool of lava. This is a painfully easy fight. He went down very quickly and the lizard must've despawned. He never set up for Self-Destruct once though he Berserked over and over making him even easier to take down.
Pie.

Done this, easily... so easily.

DRK73/THF36
THF75/NIN37
NIN62/WAR31
RDM71/NIN37
WHM75/BLM37
WAR60/NIN30

RDM/NIN soloed the lizard while we beat up the bomb in less than a minute. Then we beat up the lizard. Over. We built TP on wasps first, though.
Doing things the easy way, w/o a bunch of 75's ^-^

Just confirming the easy way to do this.
Went with some friends from my LS

62PLD, 62MNK, 67RNG, 70SMN, 67WHM, 59BLM

We camped in the hall that leads to the lava flow where the ??? is.

RNG was /NIN. We all had Sneak up, RNG had Utsusemi up, then traded the Adaman. Both the bomb and lizard spawned, The lizard ignored the RNG, who ran back to us, and we killed the bomb.

I went 75RDM/DRK solo, had no problem!

Had to convert for MP.

When Stoneskin down I got hit for 110 damage, but my enhanced ice spikes took care of the good enough.

Did this mission last nite. Bought the ore and went to the spot. I used my 67bst/nin, silent oil, and a reraise gorget. put up utsei, called CC, sneak, and traded. The lizard didnt aggro and i set my pet to fight bomb. after 3 bees i got the drop & 42 xp. Any bst that want to solo this, it is pretty simple. Be sure you sub nin b/c i dont trust blink and if you get hit you lose sneak. after CC died, the bees were plenty to tank the bomb, let them do their job and sit back and watch.
Warning: if there are other ppl in that area please warn them that you are going to pop the nm's and they should move.I didnt think the lizard would aggro anyone since i popped them, but sadly i was wrong. There was a thf (Tinuvuel sp?) that was afk and when i popped the nms the lizard aggro'd him. Tin, sorry bout that.

Anyhow, good luck.

After shouting for days for this, and being a level 72 SMN, I figured I could solo this bomb only if the Lizzard does not aggro. So to Ifrit's Cauldron I went. Got there and buffed up with the following : Garuda(Blink), then kneeled to get MP to 100%; Titan(Stoneskin),then kneeled to get MP to 100%.

Then I summoned Ifrit (since bombs are weak to fire) and traded my Adaman Ore to the "???".

Popped the mobs and sure enough, bomb agros right away but since shadow took the hit, my sneak did not drop and the lizzard did not come down off the cliff...and i ran out of Lizzard range and ordered avatar to retreat just around to the mouth of the entrance of the flame spout.

THen, i used BP Flaming Crush and bombs life drops one third and I run....when avatar died, I summoned Ifrit again and he immediately heads back to bomb and I do second BP Flaming Crush (does over 2031 damage). Did the same again and killed bomb on third Flaming Crush BP and got Frag Rock.

It never touched me for damage a single time.

Good Luck SMNs on this if you solo it. And if your on Ifrit Server and need this mission and cannot get help, send me a tell and I will solo it for you free of charge. Total time the fight took: less than 3 minutes.

thanks

No one wanted to go fight this mission and i was antsy so i figured what the hell its only 110k for an ore -.- Got to ??? went to put up Utesemi and was /blm -.- So i said what the hell and tried it anyway. Called CC, 2 houred, used oil and popped NM;s. Got extremely lucky bomb missed me the first attack and got out of aggro range from Salamander. CC got down to 25% or so and a wasp and a bat mopped the rest of the bomb up. GO BST! /welcome Rank 7

Fight lasted about 45 seconds, I got hit perhaps twice the entire fight. Sneak pull worked very well, Slug Shot landed for about 1700.
