Description

Numerous paths and tunnels snake through Yhoator Jungle, a tropical forest which covers most of the Elshimo Uplands. Towering above the northern horizon of Yhoator Jungle is Mt. Yuhtunga, where daring adventurers can find entrances to Ifrit's Cauldron. To the south lays the remnants of the Temple of Uggalepih, and on the eastern edge of the jungle are caves leading to the deadly Den of Rancor.

Unlike Yuhtunga Jungle, tonberries roam freely throughout Yhoator Jungle. The tonberry race is based in the Temple of Uggalepih, with others occupying the Den of Rancor. Adventurers must be careful not to get on the bad side of these small, awkward creatures.

Points of Interest

  • Zone into Ifrit's Cauldron at G-6 and I-5.
  • Zone into Den of Rancor through the cave at J-7.
  • The Teleport-Yhoat crystal is in the clearing at F-9.
  • The outpost for this zone is at I-8.
  • The ??? at I-7 is used in the quest True Will - NIN AF3.

Maps

The Map of the Elshimo regions, which includes Yhoator Jungle, can be purchased for 3,000 gil from Promurouve in Lower Jeuno or Rusese in Upper Jeuno.

You didn't say what server you were on. I hope you come back and read this. :) These are the NPCs where you can get maps of the local Elshimo Island regions containing Zones:
* Kazham
* Yhoator Jungle
* Yuhtunga Jungle

Promurouve Lower Jeuno H-7 Map Dealer
Rusese Upper Jeuno H-6 Map Dealer

Purchase: 3,000 gil

:::EDITING:::

Samurai flag guest though... (I'm glad I came back and read more.)
You'll have to go to Norg for that. You won't be able to get the map to Norg until you start doing some Zilart missions.

Waterfall?
# Jan 13 2006 at 2:21 PM Rating: Decent
Im a fisherman searching for Elshimo Frogs. Clanwind has a place called (Area = Yhoator Jungle (Waterfall)) where only Elshimo Frogs can be caught. This would be a prime spot for me, but the only waterfall I can find is the one near the Temple. Ive already caught a lot of rusty gear and some newts at this waterfall. Does anyone know where the waterall they are talking about is, or is it wrong information?? Clanwind is usually reliable, here is the site: http://www.clanwind.com/ffxi/fishing/default.asp?AREA=102 please help me out

I dont recall any other waterfalls in Yhoator Jungle so I think this is the one they mean.
Using a Halcyon Rod and a Fly Lure, I've caught a couple of frogs at this location. The frogs do seem to be a bit rare compared to the newts and items however, the catch rate was better here than in Yuhtunga Jungle from my experience.

Woo hoo, I just beat this pain in the butt NM. It's name is Edacious Opo-Opo, spawned by trading a Pamamas and a Wild Pamamas to the ??? at K-10. I had to trade I think the Pamamas first, then the Wild Pamamas, but it did spawn. This guy attacks FAST, slow is a must, and he also hit me pretty hard. I was 61 DRG/ 28 WHM, so kinda gimped sub. Halfway through, he ate fruit that healed his HP, and I had to let wyvern tank for a bit. In the end, I had no MP, 67 HP, and no wyvern, but the guy was dead. No drop, but I'm gonna try again. If I can dig up the pic, I'll post it.

I just got out of the Jungle and i had no trouble at all. I did get killed by agro, but not of the gob kind, but of his pet BEE! found out later that the bees agro to MAGIC! and got me while i was trying to save my tanks @$$. But its all good, died twice in that sucky party, but after that i had awsome partys and got 27-29 in one night and 30-31 with ease, i even got to pull mandy's at 31! Being RDM, that's rare. I dont know what's so bad about the jungle, you guys just need to be more carefull maybe, and take the time to use the 360 degree camera they give u.

Just a note, bees don't aggro to magic. there's a chance you aggroed the gob or attacked a wasp, becuse they only link to their owners and other wasps. Also, the reason people don't like the jungles is because of pts like that first one you mentioned. ^^

lol, I had a nice party there too. Got three levels in it 25-28. And ill say one of the best partie combo ever is now
Theif/Ninja
Ninja/War
War/monk
War/Ranger
Blm/Whm
Whm/Blm
This may seem like it works but it will. There was really no main tank. We just balanced this perfect. I was the War/Monk with a polearm (cuase im levling it for dragoon) and the other war had a great sword. This was the best party ever.

Alright, on Tuesday, 10/12/2004, 11:00am pacific time zone, not a single soul on Cerberus Server was in the jungle leveling along the very crowded strip where everyone levels from 27-32. I was shocked. Hell had frozen over. Being a NIN, I dismounted my chocobo, and mijin gakure'd back to Kazham, and flew back to Jeuno. I don't think I'll get an invite today.
Owned this place

Ok so I was with my static 2 out of the 4 members were missing so we asked one of the rng's in our static if he wanted to come lvl his nin sub with us he comes along. Well since our blm was also gone(nothing new he's been gone every other one cause of his parents and we just started last week) so we get a sam also. Anyway we're getting chain 3-4's every hit and were killing gobs by lvl 29 by the bakers dozen. I got d/ced right when my pt got a Chain 5 that gave 300 exp though >< kinda sad about that. But anyway from lvl 29-31 we friggen owned this place. but I'm glad now we get to go to Altepa.

I can honestly say that i hate the jungles! I went there to level my RDM and i did that, but what i didn't think about was how i was going to get back to Kazaam!! My party disbanded and i was stuck in the middle of the jungle with no map and no sense of direction. People all told me different ways to go but you know what? The darn place all looks alike!!! You swear you just went through this tunnel not even a minute ago! I ended up being stuck in that darn jungle for two weeks because no one would give me a tele or a warp! I ended up invising and going on my very scared merry way and somehow wondered over to Norg, where i jumped for glee when i found their residential area and i could change to my Blm and warp my booty home! What is sad now is i have to go back to finish up, but at the same time the good thing is i will be with my wife who is a whm. So we may get lost together but we will be able to fend off some of the mobs and invis through others. My recommendation is if you intend on going into that jungle, prepare not to come out. Load up on everything you could possibly need to survive out there for a few weeks. (spells, potions, food, drinks, etc) Its always better to be over prepared than underprepared!!

Good luck to all unwary travelers to the jungle and may the goddess guide you to safety as she did me.

Alternatively, if you don't mind spending the 750 CP, you can purchase a Scroll of Instant Warp, which does help, especially if you're not able to run out, Warp yourself, or have someone Teleport/Warp you.

The scroll of Instant Warp is a good idea.

Here's a better one (IMHO):

Search all of the various FFXI sites (besides this one) that have a lot of maps. I've run into several Yuhtunga/Yhoator maps on JP sites that include where ALL of the tunnels go to.

It is so much easier navigating around there with one of those maps than the in game map (which doesn't show the tunnels).

There are a few 'dead ends', but with the map it's actually pretty easy to get back from Yhoat to Kazham (with sneak/invis) at just about any level.

Some more little tips to partying in here:

1. If someone zones a Goblin Smithy through your party and it isn't destroyed before the party either dies or zones, that goblin WILL return the way it came, and that means aggro for you if it hasn't already got some other unlucky people. If your near an interesection, I recommend quietly switching sides so the Goblin can return without hassle to your group.

2. Goblins here are nasty. Don't think that just because your party is chaining Mandragora after Mandragora you're ready to start hammering away at the Goblin menace. Goblin Smithys hit 2-3 times harder than Mandys, and are just as rapid as Mandys attacks, and have the usual devastating AoE attacks that can level injured Mages. Mandragoras can clock you up some really nice exp if you're willing to find a good area that spawns Mandys close by. They don't aggro, they don't link, and they're easy fights. Why bother risking your lives to prove you have chest hair? If people in your party don't want to fight Goblins, respect that or part from them.

3. Getting back from here need not be as costly as you might think. As a Lv 30 WAR/SAM, I constantly run back to Kazham with little problem. I make sure to use Defensive Enhancements like Defender and Third Eye, then run non-stop as quickly as I can. Avoid aggro as long as you can, but I almost guarantee you'll get some clingers. If you're like me, you'll take two hits maximum and be so swift that you'll bring one, two at most, Gobbies back to the zone. Of course, I don't recommend doing this all the time, Warping is much better. If you do zone Gobs, be sure to give clear warning! On he Lakshmi server there are usually a few High-level players to dispatch aggroed Gobs.

After a really good run of Mandragoras, you'll find this jungle isn't as bad as it appears. In fact, you may even come to enjoy it for partying.

52mnk/war on gilgamesh server. I recently spent some time lvling my sub at Yuhtunga and Yhoator, and having taken 3 jobs there now, I'd like to offer some advice.

1. One of my pet peeves is blind invites: If someone pops a blind invite at you, chances are they have no respect for other players in the game, and thus will be the type to zone a gob right through 5 pt's. >.< I generally turn them down, though occasionally I get one from someone I know, and can't refuse :p

2. A post made earlier mentioned,

"If your leader decides he/she knows this wonderful camp out in the middle of nowhere... disband immediately."

I'd like to point out that there are several entrances to the jungle, and if you truly MUST stay near the zone, keep in mind that there are4 or 5 different places to do so. Having said that, There are three tunnels I can think of offhand that do not spawn gobs, in yhoator, and are WELL WORTH the travel there. If one can get there, one can get back.

3. Bring a warp scroll, if you're not a BLM or have /blm. You might not want to spend the CP, or are saving for somethng, but you have to stop and consider: What's more important, CP or XP?

4. Zoning out to Yuhtunga, and then to Kazham, on FOOT, is cake. Always remember to head NW, at every possibility, and all you'll need is Invis. Tonko, Invis, and prism powders are great; at 33WAR/NIN it took two castings of tonko to get back, and I stopped on the way to help kill a gob.

5. Please, everyone, if you suck at pulling, tell someone. Don't be a proud *ss and think that because you are THF or NIN, you are automatically the best puller in the game; Chances are if you're that cocky, you're really NOT that good, and someone else should pull. We had a RNG/NIN who raved about his pulling skills, until his first pull, when he mis targetted a gob smithy and manage to pull him and three of his friends right into and through the middle of us and two other pt's. I'm thinkin he should go PLD, so he doesn't have to pull.

6. The most important rule is this: this is a game. Nothing more. If someone from a different pt is pulling mobs through your party, and aggro'ing gobs, don't start a /shout war. Its annoying, and really clutters up the battle chat. Some of us like to leave the filter off just in case someone truly DOES need help :/
