lucky?

I can't tell if this item is lucky or not, got one while out training WHM and decided to keep it on me, what the hell right. So The next mandy I kill I get another and a Pinch of Yhtunga Sulfer and I laugh to myslef as it drops the other cause its rare/ex. Next kill I kill a Crawler and he drops a Silk and a Smooth Stone... so he decided to nail me with a Poison Breath before he dies and I'm out of MP to Poisona myself and i tick down to 1HP and it wears... lucky? {Hmmm.}

This is a major misprint. Yuhtunga Mandys DO NOT drop these. (Another reason I will now check Somepage b4 Alla again) And I have all the Buds, no Effect I can notice. Bub.Pen. seems to have the best drop rate and you can also kill rabbits for the <Wild Rabbit's Tail>.

If it does bring good luck where do you keep it?
on your characters inventory like equipment etc...
or

well ive tried both since my post.
works the same either way i think
when i was lvling mnk i found that mobs dropped more ex items than normal which helps a lot with quests.
dont know how much it affects pt etc... as only used while solo
I think if your willing to give it a go it can work over time, if you dont believe it is working then just chuck it!!
it only takes one slot so worth giving it a chance in my opinion

There is no "Luck" in this game.
All drops are programmed to drop at a set rate percentage so luck is NOT involved, just mathematics.

in every final fantasy game luck is a real factor and certain items bring more luck.if your not a believer then dont carry 1, if you are 1 or 2 inventory slots taken up doesnt really matter much.1 thing i did notice was when i got the bud i went too the fortune tellers in jeuno and for the first time they told me Fortune: favourable, so i might just hang on too 1...just in case.

The 4-leaf mandragora bud is only used for the quest, or alternatively as a really terrible food. At one of the Fan Fest developer panels, someone asked about whether the 4-leaf bud actually increases "luck," and the developer answered (through the translator): "If you believe hard enough, your dream may come true."

While that statement (not verbatim) is open to interpretation, by his tone of voice I'd say he meant "If you think holding onto or eating the bud increases your drop rate, treasure pool claimage, or in any other way affects what are essentially random processes, then I'm not gonna burst your bubble." Exactly WHY he didn't give a straight answer is also up to interpretation.

How i read here in this Forum it say's we have to put this in the Inventory to get a lil bit more Luck on Droprate (5%).

If we Eat it it gives us VIT: -5 AGI: 3, what does make maybe sense, because the MOB is harder and the Drop is better, but i don't count on that.

I let my in Inventory and try to get the Wild Rabbit Tail too.

I wondering if its really helpfull or not.

Leveling COR and going after the three famous lucky items. I originally went to the Yuhtunga Jungle and was there for two days with no drop ><.

Now I am convinced that the Mandies in the Jungle DO NOT drop Four-Leafs. So I head off to kill Alraune. Went as PLD/THF and got this in about 12 kills.

Off to the Tree...

Got the Fruit Punches to drop 5 sec later.

Since i've had this in my inventory I am 1/1 on Spiny Spipi, 2/2 on Bomb King, 1/1 on Orcish Barricader.

Also have TH2...I think this is a TH+ item.

Thats just my 2 gil......

everyone that has had this and tried to "experiment" with it, are expecting too much from this. you are hoping for a better drop rate or something. it is true that it increase "in-game luck" (which is a real thing because they wouldnt be have luck-based skills for the Corsair) and i always keep my mandy bud in my invintory.

by the way...you dont eat it, that will give you "bad luck"

I dissagree. I was fighting Poisonhand in Davoi and I ate mine before I killed him with my 75WHM/37NIN and got the Jujitsu Gi. The only other time I've gotten that was when I had a THF with TH2, and I've fought that nm about 20 some times. I think it does help if eaten, but I believe it's still a gamble. Only way to really know is kill stuff without it and "map" out the drop rates and then kill stuff with it and do the same. Also kill stuff with it aftet you've eaten it. Oh and by the way, the food effects from this last about an hour Real Life Time. FYI.

I do not know whether having this item in your inventory affects your luck or not, there are examples of both. However if it did, that could explain why some people say that eating the bud would reduce their drops. Think about it- if it increases luck while you own it, and then you destroy it by consuming/using it, your luck would reverse- meaning that it would be reduced during the duration of the effect. This is what I believe.

I don't think it would. I believe that the TH skill adds luck points to your hidden stat when determining a drop. The bud should, if it does work as rumoured, add luck to everything, attack damage, drops, synths... anything that may add luck to its inbuilt equation. If you want to look at it in terms of TH1, TH2 etc, consider this a TH+1(ie 2 or 3)

There seems to be a debate about hidden luck affects. Previous FF games have a luck stat, which *subtly* affect a majority of elements in the game mechanics. It would make a lot of sense then that luck is certainly a hidden stat, and therefore would have hidden boosts. This is always going to be a point of speculation until someone from SE itself comes out and puts the rumour to rest, true or false.

I got a 4 leaf in West Sarutabaruta when NM hunting with my THF with TH1. Out of boredom I started killing Mandragora along with crawlers and so forth. I picked this up in almost no time, and hardly realized I got it. I read about the superstitions around it, so I gave it a try. The entire hour or so that it was in effect, I didn't get a single Silk Thread drop off of a crawler. Mind you, that was WITH TH1. I came back the next day with my RDM/WHM and got a full stack in about 45 minutes.

Just my 2 gil, I don't think it helps your drops in cases like silk threads. NMs may be a different story, that's all up for speculation.

Now all I need is a FF Lottery!!! Now THERES a good fun idea!!!! 1000 gil a week, 6 numbers....... you know the rest. lol.

was experimenting with 4-leaf and silk thread the other day, and i think on a particular day silk threads actually dont drop that much. i'm still new and that time i didnt know anything about the moon and the days and how they affect things. so i'm guessing on a certain day the threads dont drop, because i (thf32/rng) did not get a single drop after killing like 20 over crawlers in Saruta, and when the next day came, the drops were back to normal.

Doubt it. Whether anyone believes me or not, when I first started fighting Mandragoras (not the Tiny ones, the full-grown, 4-leaf bud-dropping ones), I actually got a 4-leaf before I got a 2-leaf.

Still, having a 2-leaf in your inventory at least prevents you from finding another, so you can stop going 'Ah, man...' everytime you get a bud, but it doesn't have a 4 next to it.

Bull****, you have to use the item to get the effect. Think about, if you only needed it in your inventory, everyone could hold it indefinitely. Think of it as a food that gives TH1 for a short time. Here's my story: I'm trying to get an Eshimo marble for tele quest. I'm in the jungle as 50+ rdm/15 thf and a 4 leaf bud in my inventory. Days of camping near Gemini Falls and only a few stacks of lizzy tails/eggs to show for it. I decide to try using the 4 leaf as someone had suggested here on Alla. The second lizzy I kill I get the drop. Yeah, this doesn't truly prove anything, but no one will convince me otherwise.

Well my first lucky charm, a wild rabbits tail, dropped for me when i was leveling bst around Buburimu Peninsula. Then I go back there again, and guess what, I get a 4 leaf mandy bud. And coincidence or not, my luck has doubled. Just today I finished up mining and ended up with 3 platinums. Normally I never find those, or if I'm super lucky, I get one. Could be the lucky charms or maybe not. I'd rather eat the cereal if not. :P

I also want to brag about getting my Limit Break 1. I had 3 friends help me get it the other day and the Ninja had a 4 leaf bud. Well we first went to get the papyrus. Dropped on first mob. Then we went to get exoray mold; dropped on 2nd exoray. Then we went to get the item from bombs in Garliage Citadel, dropped on 2nd one. They were in utter shock on how fast we got them lol.

Maybe a few people think that it has a hidden effect based of the name. But look at the description, "said to bring good luck." That's why most people think it give TH, not because of the damn 4 in the name. And on top of that, it doesn't say, "brings good luck." so whether it does or not is entirely up for debate. If you want to eat it or store it in your inventory, how's that gonna harm anyone else.

{I'm sorry} I fail to agree.

Me and my friend where out camping the standard NMs in sandy area. (Wallbreecher Barricader JEJ Spook). We gave up and went to bed after 3 claims on Spook no drop, no claims on JEJ (Like we ever would even see the lil SOB), 5 on Wallbreecher and Barricader. no drops).

Next day we did the same. I told him about the rumor of this bud. We made a joke about it and I used it and we went farming. Here are our results.

Wallbreecher. 1 claim one drop.
Barricader. 1 claim one drop.
JEJ. 1 claim one piece of hare meat ><
Spook. 0 claims.

I told him about Crypt Ghost and goblin Cruel too.

Crypt ghost. 1 claim one drop.
Goblin Cruel. Bud wore off. 1 claim no drop.

Luck? I think not.

Moonphase affects drop rates. It might not of been the 4-leaf bud that increased the drops. Pure luck is still possible though not plausable.
I'm fairly convinced now...

I traded in my four-leaf bud for the Mandragora-Mad quest some time ago, and since then, my item drops have...well, dropped considerably.

I still am not completely sold, but I'm certainly gonna try and get one before hunting for a Carby's Ruby.

And NO, do not eat this. Just have one in your inventory (I think it works well if it's in your Mog Safe as well).

I have TH2 already, and eating this didn't seem to do anything. Beware if you eat one, as it takes at least 1 hour to wear (didn't time it). I got a pt invite right after and had to suffer having no acc food for a long while (if it helped with drops, it would have been worth it, but if anything I'd say drops were worse).

I got two within 30 minutes of killing mandies around the Buburimu Penninsula OP (a good place to farm since they drop cotton here).

Just so you know for next time, there's a taru just outside the bard bar door in lower jeuno(forgot exact name) that'll remove your food effects.

Being near an OP, I chose to OP home and OP directly to our camp. So this was sadly not an option. I could also bring antacid if I really wanted, but I was curious as to whether the bud would improve drops for our pt.

So, if this thing is lucky, do I need to have it on me when I go a-hunting, or can I leave it in my Mog Safe? 'cause my pack space is kinda full as it is.

I dunno if this thing really is lucky or not, but with all these testimonies, I sure as heck won't be dropping it!

i don't think it's superstition at all. there has been "luck" items since forever. i carry this and a lucky egg (and i should grab a wild rabbit's tail) everywhere i go. in every party about 80% of the Kindred Seals drop to me. given.. i suck at lots, but when it comes down to waiting for items to drop from Treasure, i usually get the good shyt :) (i DID lot highest on Assault Jerkin awhile back, but in THAT case, i think was just coincidence)

BUT.. it DID take a couple of weeks of it sitting in my gobbie bag to kick in.

just sharing the good news.

and "don't knock it till you've tried it".

Possibly a condition?

I just got this night before last. And not long after I got it, about 4 crawlers in a row dropped silk thread.

So I got to thinking. There probably is something to this thing. :)

But, I think maybe it has a condition. Maybe it's only effective during daylight. Also I saw that my drops were less than stellar on darksday. If anyone wants to test this, that'd be sweet.
Luck??

I've been bitten by superstition.. It does seem that rare/uncommon items drop more for me now that I have this in my inventory...
The best example: Carbuncle's Ruby...

I was with my LS in Korroloka Tunnel heading in to kill the leeches for NIN quest... there were 5 of us and 2 of them still needed the ruby for SMN..

I saw 2 Thread Leeches jumping around and pointed at them.. Said, "Let's try!"... killed one... got the Ruby!! ok... let's kill the other one.. got another Ruby!!!

Awesome luck! We also had 2 THFs subs in our group with TH1...

So I don't know if this thing actually helps but it's worth keeping!

EDIT: I also recently got 2 Scorpion Stingers in a row at Maze of Shakrami.. (was working on DRG quest LOL)

I got this drop when I was blm and trying to farm cotton. I was about to drop it when I saw the information that said: "said to bring good luck". 2 things crossed my mind... "Superstitions are for losers, and 2 thats gotta mean something in FFXI" lol

the drop rate on monsters does seem to increase though, ive tested it with yag necklaces... too bad there is no solid proof though.

But I must say BLM was my first job, so I had this thing since level 14 lol, and I have never taken it out of my item bag since ^ ^

i think u must use the 4leaf! I was 0/14 on NM ashmaker gothblut, with 4leaf and 3leaf in my inventory (the bud in inventory never gave me a better droprate; and, the yagudos in giddeus always drop much necklaces). Then i used the 4leaf when i was rdm46/blm21, i caught the NM and got the priests robe. Also i got chest key from the first cursemaker i killed.
I dont think, that there changes anything, when u have it in the inv, because u cant equip the mandybud.

Its very rare, but u should use it. And i think it isnt soooo hard to get a 4leaf again. Try it with a job, that is 6 leveles higher, or so, than the mobs.

I got this around 2wks ago and it doesnt seem to have done much?
I helped LS guy with subjob items, and before when I camped emperor I was generally getting worm every 8-10 kills max, and it took 50+ kills to get it...
Then I must've killed around 70 ghouls to get magicked skull and no drop at all before he had to go ; ;

Then I do G1 and was there for 90, probably more kills across 6 NIGHTS!!! >< before I finally got a drop.
I killed a sapling in latheine and got first ever drop of herb seeds and vegetable seeds =P ...dont know if this is a particularly rare drop but I aint had either of them before, and got both at once lol
It is food though, so I was thinking...maybe you have to use it to gain the luck?
I dont want to go wasting it on the crappy food stats it gives, but it is beginning to bug me?
Next time I kill Jaggedyeared Jack or if I ever get near Stroper Chyme again (lol =P) i'll scoff it and see if I get drop! ;)

when i first got the 4 leaf i thought i was lucky, a few sec. later i got the 2 leaf. and i do have to say that it did help the drop rate. i'm still a newbie, so what can i say?

I've drop the 4leaf
Then the same day I've drop the monster signa

I decide to keep it in my inventory to keep testing: (bst/war never being thf) :p

- a lot of necklaces drop, more than without
- no drop from Torrent again 0/4 (except deodorize) (¬_¬')...
- neither from Lizzy (but only 0/2)

I guess if 4leaf gives luck, it a +1% drop rate and not a kidda hidden TH1 or TH2 :p

got my 4leaf from mandy near spiny spispi in E sartabarta lol. Seems to help drop rate, both rare and common, but no proof to back that up.

The one thing i can prove is that this bud effects my mining results, in a horrible way.

I have all the workers gear. On average, a 2 hour romp in gusgen nets 4 darksteels, 2 golds, and about 2 ingots worth of iron and silver apiece.

Both times i have brought this bud with me (by accident) i spent over 3 hours, got 0 darksteels, 0 gold, 1 silver or iron. Moon was full or near full on both trips. What i get is pebbles and zinc, thousands of them. My conclusion is that this bud promotes common items, and absolutely kills the rare drop rate.

Sure wish SE would offer some more information so i wouldn't waste money and time on crap like this >.< Thank god for allakhazam!

im going to try to get the 4 leaf and see what happens....
