Summary

A strange voice from within Carbuncle's Ruby is asking you to gather the seven colors of light...

Walkthrough

Go out and fight leeches, they will drop a Carbuncle's Ruby, which is a very rare drop. Once you have the stone item, go to Windurst Walls and click on the door in the House of the Hero to talk to Ajido-Marujido. You will be told to experience all 7 weather elements. To do this, visit various zones until you have seen each type of weather pattern in the world (you will be shown a cutscene of the stone changing color). NOTE: You cannot acquire weather effects in towns or dungeons, nor can you obtain them from a Scholar casting the weather effect on you.

  • Red - heat - Valkurm, Rolanberry, Altepa, Yhoator Jungle, Meriphatud Mountains.
  • Orange - clear skies - most places
  • Yellow - sand - Valkurm, Tahrongi, Konschtat.
  • Green - wind - Tahrongi, Mhaura, La Theine.
  • Indigo - ice - Xarcabard, Beaucedine etc.
  • Blue - rain - La Theine, Pashhow, Rolanberry, Buburimu, Yhoator Jungle, boat rides
  • Violet - thunder - Konschtat, Jugner, boat rides

You will know you got the pattern by zoning and seeing a cut scene. If you don't get a cut scene, you didn't get the pattern. You don't have to be near the weather, just in the same zone as it.

Once you have all 7 patterns, go to La Thiene Plateau and find the stone circle at G-6. Trade the stone to ??? and you will get flagged to be able to change jobs to Summoner.

I had heard that the Fire weather condition was tough to get and that if you have a hard time getting to the Altepa deserts that Valkurm is the place to get it. So I entered Valkurm and thought about just leaving my PS2 on and go do something else, but I knew that would't work because I had to enter the area that the weather condition was in, not just simply be in it.

Then, my McGyver kicked in. I found that at the entrance to La Theine Plateau in Valkurm if I tape/rubberband/tie the joysticks on my controller so that they're both facing inward toward each other that my character would go in a circle that allowed her to go in and out of Valkurm dunes forever! Sure enough, I came back three hours later and there my character was running in a circle. I looked up in the chat log and I saw the message that let me know that Fire had been activated. Hurray! I don't know if this would be concidered cheating, but she basically was doing the same thing that she would have been doing had I been there so who cares?

I imagine that if you can keep two keys down on your keyboard for PC it would get the same effect. I'm not sure where else this works, but it doesn't work in all places. I had trouble getting lightning so I tried it at the Pashow Marshland/Konschtat Highlands entrance and it didn't work. But I find that this is a nifty trick to make this tedious quest a little bit less time consuming. The choice is yours and yours alone, good luck!
??? Not taking ruby

After getting the ruby I went to Windy Walls to get the mission. Yea, I went around to the areas and got all 7 elements, at lvl 30. When I try trading the ruby to ??? it doesnt accept it, and when I talk to it, it says something like "Your Carbuncle's Ruby shines brightly, but something is still missing." This is very frustrating to me, and if anyone can help me out I would appreciate it.

I was wondering, as I'm shooting for Summoner once I hit 30 (Lev 25 Whm/20Blm right now) I've heard you need high fame in all nations for this. Is that true? And By all nations, are we just talking about the 4 major ones? Windurst, SandOria, Bastok and Jeuno?

Won't be long til my whm is a 30, so I want to get all the facts straight and hopefully get the ruby as I go along.

I believe you only need high fame to fight the avatars in uncapped battles. These reward you with items aswell as avatars pacts, and you need to do this to gain Fenrir and Diabolos.

If you don't get them this way, you will have to do the solo lv.20 capped avatars to get them, since you only start with Carby. I do not think these do not require high fame.

ya, this quest has got to be the most annoying quest ever. only took me about 5 min to get a ruby in quifim, and all the colors were ez to get..........except fire. i sat in quifim for 20+hrs, DO NOT WAIT IN QUIFIM FOR FIRE! it's a horrible idea lmao. i'd reccomend going to altepa on firesday. ya, i'm now a lv 20 smn, doing the avatar fights, look under there if you want to learn a lil about them ^^

Meant to post this comment under the actual Ruby discussion, but forgot which window I was in…

Anyways, I've gotten 6/7 of the colours.
I parked at the zone between Junger and Battalia.
-Netted the rain and thunder from Junger, and sand from Battalia. After that, I headed to La Theine.
-Got clear skys.
Went to the zone between Valkurm and La Theine.
- Juggled between the two. Got the wind I needed.

Fire is the kicker. I'll probably try Yhoator Jungle instead of the dunes.

Hi,
Really stuck guys, how do you get ice for this?
I cant seem to find how to get to Beaucedine.
I went to where I thought the entrance was from Batallia Downs but couldnt find it.(using map from this site)
There was an entrance to a dungeon a little further down, do I have to go through there (north? ) to get there or am I just lost?

You cannot get there from Batilla Downs. You can only come into Batilla Downs from there. You will notice there is a huge cliff there that you cannot get up. The way to do this is to go to Sandoria and in East Ronfaure you will see a zone in the top right hand corner which is Rangeaumont Pass. (You can find the map on here) you have to go through there to get to the snow area. BE WARNED.. you have to go through a door in Rangeaumont Pass and you cannot come back through it once you go in, so be sure to bring a scroll of instant warp, a black mage that can warp you or you will have to Ghetto Warp. Good luck with this.

Actually, if you head west you can loop back around and be on the 'good' side of the door. I discovered this by accident as I had been told there was no way back - I wonder if SE added that at some point. o.O

Still, you're better off with a method of Warp other than death. :P

I don't know if this will help you but we always get the rubies from Buburimu Pennisula on the South beach. Sometimes we get it quik other times it takes about 3 hours. I got it today on second kill without thief.

The simple way to get the summoners queast done
# May 23 2006 at 6:08 PM Rating: Decent
Pretty much, its a simple quest requiring no skill at all, if you are a low level get a high level to help u get carbuncles ruby, it seems to have a higher drop rate on Acropihies in Qufim. Shouldn't take no more than 20 kills or less. After that, get a teleport holla to latheine plateau and get all the basics, 5/7 like wind, sand, rain, thunder in jugner, and ummm... i think its clear. Teh get a 50 + whm to bring u to xarcabard. Then bring u to altepa where u wait for firesday. :D gl
