Mission Orders

Visit the faraway nations of Bastok and Federation of Windurst and receive official recognition as an adventurer.

Walkthrough

The guard sends you to talk to Halver in Northern San d'Oria. He needs you to help out at Bastok and Federation of Windurst embassies. You can do this in any order.

Bastok

If you chose to start in Bastok, go speak with Pius in the office of the President. If you have done Federation of Windurst first, you will need to speak to the San d'Orian Consulate Savae E Paleade before going to see Pius.

You will be sent to Palborough Mines to get some Mythril Sand. First, check the Auction House to see if there are any Mine Gravel for sale. If so, buy it. If not, talk to Grohm in Metalworks and he will give you three Pickaxes. Just in case, you should buy some extras. They are sold by Boytz in Bastok Mines or at the Auction House.

Note: You must talk to Grohm to get a cut scene to be able to complete this mission.

In Palborough Mines at (F-7, first floor), you will find the Mythril Seam. Use the Pickaxe on the Mythril Seam until you get a Mine Gravel. (obviously you can skip this if you bought the gravel)

Once you get the gravel, find the Refiner on the third floor at (I-7). Trade the Mine Gravel to the Refiner and the machine will begin to work. Head to the machine on the second floor and pull the lever. You should receive an oz. of Mythril Sand. You can take a shortcut back to Bastok by jumping into the boat on the third floor.

Trade the Mythril Sand to Savae E Paleade.

Next, it's off to Federation of Windurst!

Next head to the ambassador in Federation of Windurst. He sends you to a tower in Windurst Walls to get a key. Zone into Heaven's Tower and speak to Kupipi to get the key and head off to Giddeus. At this point, you will need a full group. You can buy a map of Giddeus in Windurst Woods.

When you get to Giddeus you want to go to a burning circle located at G-12 in the southwest corner. Get ready for battle. Head into the circle and a dragon will appear. You need to defeat the dragon. After you do it, report back to the ambassador and then back to the guard and you gain rank 3 and 3,000 Gil.

Federation of Windurst

If Federation of Windurst is first, then you need to take a shield offering to Uu Zhoumo, the Yagudo NPC guarding the treasure room in the lowest part of Giddeus, then you have to fight Zhuu Buxu the Silent and retrieve 2 Parana Shields and trade them to the San d'Orian consulate. They tell you to go to Bastok next where you will get tossed around to different people until you are told to go into the mines. Go with a party to the 3rd floor and head towards the burnt spot on the map, and you will zone into the next part where you will find the burning circle. Then kill the Black Dragon and see the cutscene, head back to the San d'Orian consul in Federation of Windurst, they will complete you for their part and you just need to head on home to complete the mission.

Note that this mission is given in all three kingdoms, so you can group with anyone and still complete it.

Update Notes

As of February 14th, 2011, there is no longer a level cap restriction on the mission battlefield.

Im having problems with this. I went to Windy 1st with no problem. Went to Bastok, talked to consul, talked to Pieus, talked to Ghrom. Then went to Mines, got gravel, refined it and got onz of mythril sand. I Went as WHM/BLM with access to warp so I just warped back to Bastok (made it as my HP). That's th e only diffent thing I did from guide (instead of taking boat).

I went back and talked to Savae E Paleade, she just says good luck on mission. I tried trading her the sand and it does not do anything, just puts it back to my invetory. Talking to Pius tells me why am I just standing there and talk to Ghrom at eatery. I taled to Grohm and he keeps telling me good luck as I'm gonna need it.

What's missing?

you have to stalk them... meaning you have to run behind them for a certain amount of time without letting him see you until he decides you have stalked him enough to give you pickaxes :)

It looks like the problem is that you went to Windurst first. If you start out with the Windurst Parahna shields quest, you don't do the Mythril Sand quest for the Bastok part. Copy/pasted (and slightly paraphrased) from above: "If Windurst is first... you to go to Bastok next where you will get tossed around to different people until you are told to go into the mines. Go with a party to the 3rd floor and head towards the burnt spot on the map, and you will zone into the next part where you will find the burning circle. Then kill the Black Dragon and see the cut scene, head back to the San D'Orian counsul in Windurst (I think they mean Bastok here), they will complete you for their part and you just need to head on home to complete the mission."

Or, go to this link: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/San_d%27Oria_Mission_2-3 and scroll down to the 'Windurst to Bastok' walkthrough.

Edit: Oh, be sure to talk to the Sand d'Orian consul first. she'll tell you who to talk to next to get your in game instructions for the dragon fight.

You may more secure by a 3 members party. At least you need a BLM to sleep the Dragoon. I killed that yesterday with a 2 members party NIN/RDM and a BLM/WHM. The NIN got a lot of potion and the BLM 1x Super Ether and 3x High Ether. Also use of BLM Manafont and Elementel up. Successfull at the second try.
Essential to not heal the NIN and start Fire Blizzard and Thunder instead. Be fast!!
If you may wait too long the dragoon will stone / paralyse you. Use Barparalysega.

I was wonder around in windy then I hear a shout from a blm lvl 75 for help on 2.3 rank. I think he change nation. I tell him why don't u solo it? He say there is no way you can solo or duo rank 2.3 I was like what the hell!!! I did rank 2.3 over 50+ times and a lvl 75 say that. Did he ever play this game at all? Or did he buy his account from Ebay?

I tell to my friend blm lvl 50. She say she will join to show him how we the bomb duo this 2.3 Got in BCNM lvl cap 25 nake to show off like in your face.
Me nake mnk/war 25 my friend nake blm/whm 25. Blm ES + sleep the dragon. I give the eye some beating mean while dragon wake. Blm don't feel like sleeping it. She run around circle the BCNM with the dragon. She say take your time :) When I finish the eye then provoke the dragon and pop mnk 2hrs. I murder the dragon and we win.

The blm 75 watch the whole thing and didn't say a thing. I guess me and my friend show him.

Rank 2.3 is easy why ppl saying it is hard? I solo it as mnk/nin, bst/nin, blm/nin, nin/war, rdm/nin using x-potion or hi-potion and win just fine.

We did this mission last night easily with three capped at 25. We went with four, but the fourth couldn't get into battle. The blm sleeped the dragon and someone immediately voked it and woke it up. We killed the eye anyway and took no damage from the wide awake dragon. The dragon itself was easy as we just plugged away at it. This was a lot easier than I had thought it would be!

THE DRAGON IS SOLOABLE. I solo'd it as Drg/Whm without alot of difficulty. As of right now I'm a 51DRG/WHM, but anyone with drg/whm to 25 or drg/war(just buy 3 extra hi-potions) that want to spend alittle more money can solo him. I sold any really good 25 gear, so just basic AH lvl 25 gear will do (I think most of it was 20 though Platoon Lance included). It took me four Hi-potion (700gill apiece), and one boiled crab for Def(which I dont remember the cost, I have them for soloing anyway), and I took a yagudo drink but never used it. This is how the battle went, before entering Burning Circle I cast all buffs rested then entered, ate the boiled crab used Anceint Circle Attacked the dragon used jump then 2houred "Spirit Surge" used my reset jump to low his def (that what jump does after a dragoon 2hours for thoughs who arent familiar) then because my wvyvern was gone while I surged I couldnt use healing breath and because of the dragons strong special attacks I dont think it would be a good idea to get your hp that low to use healing breath. Just use a macro'd Hi-potion everytime your hp goes yellow ( that was 4 for me), and continue to attack, then my 2houred wore off so recalled my wyvern (which timer you should have let reset before entering battle), hit the dragon a couple of more times then it died, switched target to the seeker(he was retarded easy) and attacked, used jump when it reset healing breath 3 times when my hp got to 33%, then he died. The End
Note- Acc. not a issue I'm elvaan and the only Acc. gear I had was +2Dex ring which is like what 1 Acc, and I didnt miss one time the whole battle.

I believe the max number is 6 that can enter and no it shouldn't be a conflict you should be able to enter any of them once you've done the quest.Edited, May 21st 2007 8:36pm by Bavien

Duo'd at 21
# May 06 2007 at 1:07 AM Rating: Decent
Last week the Windurst Dragon part of this was duo'd by myself (Ahimsaka) and a friend on Ramuh. We hit Lvl 21 and were looking for a pty for a long, long time (a couple weeks in fact -_-). After the 150th, "Yeah, let's do it in a minute. /wait 60 No thanks, let's do it tomorrow!" Welkin (21 blm/whm) and I (21 mnk/war) decided it was time to go to bed, but we might as well go out in style and fight this dragon as hard as we could.

Entering the arena with pretty standard gear (Rep knucks, Battle gloves, Light Solea, Power Gi, etc), I used a mithkabob, boosted up and we got to work. Welkin kept the dragon slept and I punched Searcher right in the face until he died. I'd packed 6 Hi-Potions for this part because Welkin was going to let me solo the thing so he could conserve mana for the dragon. Not too hard there, I used a couple potions and Welkin hit me with a couple heals between sleeps, and it went down with me in the yellow. The boosted first attack round helped a lot. Welkin kept the dragon asleep a bit longer (with one fail that came so close to killing us that I probably pooped a little bit) while I healed up. Welkin kept getting drawn toward the dragon, but it didn't matter because it was asleep.

With me at full life again, I decided to dust off the 'ol punching fist and teach this dragon what it's like to kill two level 21 morons. I told Welkin not to be scared, but it was to late. We were both fully prepared to die here, so I just used hundred fists and kept my hands at my potion macro. My eyes were closed for most of this part, but suffice to say that this dragon wailed on me pretty good, but I kept the potions coming and the vokes every 30 sec to prevent Welkin from dying (as a taru, he has very little HP. But a HUUUUUGE... uhh.. Mana pool. If you know what I mean). Welkin kept a good stream of magical powers helping me and hurting this monster, and he only drew hate a couple times between the vokes and the constant rain of knuckles. I was probably 38 or 39 hp from dying, when Welkin hit this beast with a Thunder that ended it's miserable life. As the cut scene started, I vomited out of shock, and even over the 200 or so miles that separates us we could hear each other screaming. After that, we strutted back to Windy with manly, Burt Reynolds confidence, and the next day we were killed by some bats in Qufim. So in the end, the story is kind of sad, but it teaches us a lesson; if you want to fight this dragon, bring some of those bats. They are pretty tough. OR bring two level 21 muscle freaks, and then stay at home because you know you can't handle this kind of hotness.

Anyway, the real point here is that this thing can be taken down without having to find a whole giant posse. With a good BLM, some Hi-Potions, and a fist that won't stop punching, you can kill anything. Especially this dragon and his annoying friend.

I went to Bastok first, bought the gravel, took it to the mines, got the sand and traded it to Savae the head of the counsol and finished up the Bastok part. I am now in windurst try to figure out what to do because the head of the sandy counsel,Mourices, says I have no business with him. I talked to everyone in the counsel and nothing has happened. No cut-scene, no talk about the quest, nothing. Has anyone else ever had this problem or heard of anyone else having this problem??? I contacted a GM and they said to ask around to see if any else has had this problem and to post in the Bug section on Playonline if I cant resolve this. Does anyone have an idea on what I should do or what I havent done?

The most annoying part of this mission was finding a PT to help with the fight in Giddeus! The portion of the mission in Bastok was so easy that it doesn't even bear mentioning, and after about 5 attempts (through kind LS members and random players encountered in Windhurst) to form a PT to kill the beasty, I decided to camp in Giddeus outside of Balgia's Dais and wait for a PT to come to me. This... didn't work, and I wouldn't recommend the strategy to anyone.

What did work was that I ran into a Mithra NIN/THF- Veyra- farming Yag necklaces for Norg fame in Giddeus. We started chatting to pass the time as she farmed and I upped my clothcraft skill0rz and she eventually sent me a tell letting me know that she'd be happy to help with the fight if I can find a PT. Shortly thereafter, a member of my LS asked me if I still needed help finding a PT and I jumped at the chance. With the three of us confirmed, Veyra ran back to Windhurst and changed jobs to a THF/WAR. Our party was as follows (I forget the levels that Rad and Veyra started with, but they were capped down to the 25 limit):

Beltenebros (me!): 25WAR/12MNK, pimped out gear save the Republic Subligar. Slanted to be more of a DD armed with a Neckchopper (as, ideally, all WARs should be in their 20s)
Radek (LS): 25BLM/12WHM
Veyra: 25THF/12WAR

We entered the Burning Circle and I buffed with Sole Sushi and Boost. Veyra popped a Mithkabob and Radek fired up Elemental seal. He ran ahead, slept the dragon, I ran in and 'voked the Searcher while Veyra SATA'd him but good. After a few shots from me and her, he dropped without much trouble. Radek re-slept the dragon to be safe, and we rested/boosted (not really needed) and then woke him up with a SATA. I 2-houred, beat him for around 125/hit and then 'voked and dropped Defender-which we discussed I would do, as I was the closest thing to a tank that we had- to coast through the rest of the fight while Radek cast Aero and Veyra SATA'd when able. 2-houring was probably unnecessary, as he only knocked me down to the yellow and Veyra took all of 45 damage but the fight, with the resting, lasted 5:24 seconds.

So, if you haven't read this elsewhere and you're a Lvl 25 job stuck on this mission- all you really need are three knowledgeable players (one of which being a BRD or BLM for sleep!) and you shouldn't even break a sweat on this one. Also, discussing your strategy BEFORE the fight is a given... but I should hope that you've picked up on that by now ^-^

Wow. Had bad luck with this.

First set up was 25MNK, 25BLM, 25WHM, 19PLD. The PLD couldn't enter the battlefield because he had his flagged in Bastok, and we forgot about that.

Dragon 2hred after we killed the eye. Kill the MNK, cursed the BLM. BLM dies, I die.

Just now... 25RDM, 25WHM, 25NIN, 25SMN. Died once because of everyone getting cursed. Did it again and won flawlessly.

Did it in 3:46, 39 secs off record with 4 people. Went in with monk, paladin(me) blm, and drg. It was too Easy. This being my something like nienth time beating this fight I know I could do it in under a minute with full party. Any way we went in I voked the eye, blm slept dragon. mnk 2hred and tore through eye in seconds than targeted dragon. I had to 2hr only because monk was cursed and in critical(I did this for hate). The dragon died moments later. Best of luck to everyone who does this mission^^;

I finished this mission yesterday; it took me several hours. All in all, though, it really isn't as hard as everyone made me think. I was able to easily solo the Mythril Sand bit of the quest; I didn't even aggro a single Quadav in Palborough Mines, although I suppose that's all right considering I am a BLM32/WHM16. Anyways, after Palborough I went to Windurst to begin the part with the Black Dragon in Giddeus. That was the only part I was actually worried about.

I didn't have time at the moment, so I logged off, but when I got back on later, I was determined to kill the dragon. So I got a friend to help me and we began recruiting any volunteers in Lower Jeuno and Port Jeuno. We eventually got a team of five and we set out to go kill it. It was me (a BLM/WHM), a SMN/WHM, a BLU/NIN, a WHM, and a WAR/NIN. We got through Giddeus fairly easily and made it to Balga's Dais. I began the quest... and we learned that the WAR/NIN would not be able to come with us, for reasons I'm not exactly sure of (I think he was doing the mission at the time, but he was doing the San d'Oria dragon or something.)

Anyways, it was just the four of us, all mages. I started by using Elemental Seal and casting Sleep on the dragon, and I managed to put it to sleep. Meanwhile, the SMN's Ifrit used Inferno and totally owned the crap out of Searcher, who almost immediately died. Then we all turned on the dragon, the only remotely difficult part of the battle. I went into all-out nuke mode, at the behest of my party members, and began alternating between Blizzard and Thunder (each did roughly 120 or so damage). The dragon kept kicking me for about 40 or 50 damage and at one point I was down to 2 HP, but by then the WHM had used Cure III so it was all good. I never got to see the dragon's curse WS or whatever, but it was all good, because it died in 6 minutes and 7 seconds (I believe).

I didn't really care about beating the record, I was just happy to finally get this done. Especially since we only had four mages to do it with. Thank you so much Crypt, Smoketrout, Mangodog, and Tigrao. =D

Ok I just got done doing this for 2 linkshell friends on Alexander; Bellah, and Xigbar; well we had maybe the worst setup anyone could think of; went in as 2 War/mnk @ 24, and 1 Mnk/Nin @ 25 (me), so we have no healers so we each had 2 hipotions and 1 xpotion, and also a tavnazian taco each, so owhat we did was; we zone in use tacos heal hp, i use utsusemi, then wait for recast; so they were in the cutscene and i was sitting there using boost waiting; we run in I 2 hr and start pounding on the eye, the xig and bell 2 hr and start pounding on the dragon, the eye dies before my 2 hr is up, and utsusemi still is up also; So i go over to the dragon and Bell dies (she didnt use the potion quick enough) and me and Xig are fighting the dragon, he gets to about 29 hp left and then the dragon dies, I was about half dead by then......So we beat this kill time was 5 minutes and 19 seconds, and DIDNT have sleep, and DIDNT have a healer, so it is possible ^^; good luck anyone / everyone doing this ^^
and Congrats to Xigbar and Bellah on Rank 3

Well I just did this quest a little while ago, I'm not going into detail about the parts before the dragon fight because Ala has described it pretty well, but I am going to try my best and tell you what happened inside of the burning circle. Here's a summary of this fight.

Pre-Fight

Our group consisted of three people, a White Mage, Monk and a Theif. The Monk and the Theif had done this mission before and knew what to expect. I beleive the Theif and Monk brought some Hi-Potions and eat enhancing foods. I, (who was the White Mage) brought four Hi-Ethers and two Yagudo Drinks. I also equiped a Talisman Obi(MP+12 Enmity-2). I used this enchantment before i entered the circle, along with a Yagudo Drink.

During Fight

After i entered the ring, i stayed back at the edge of the arena. First thing we did was Silence the Dragon's 'Eye' sidekick. After this the Monk and Theif went into the arena and engaged the 'Eye' first. About thirty seconds later and around half MP left I was 'drawn in' to the middle of the circle. I forget whether i was Petrified, Stunned or Asleep but i wasn't able to control my character. Around this time the 'Eye' was defeated. After this spell wore off I went back to healing, but this time I stayed closer to the battle by accident. I was not watching the Dragon's HP but i beleve it was around one third left when he used a skill that droped our HP to almost out and the Monk was cursed. I used Bendediction and shortly after the Monk used combo which dealt damage around 140. This finished the Dragon and the battle.

Well i truly hope this has been a decent account of what happened and may help some of you in the future. I would also like to thank Pwent and Murtagh who were the ones helping me out =D.
