SummaryGauntlets wrought by Borghertz, the legendary craftsman, lie hidden somewhere in Vana'diel. WalkthroughYou must have completed The Crimson Trial - RDM AF1 and activated Enveloped in Darkness - RDM AF2 before you can get this quest. To start this quest, head to the armor shop in Upper Jeuno and speak with Guslam the galka. He tells you about a pair of old gauntlets, crafted by the legendary Borghertz, that might have been seen in the Eldieme Necropolis. Head to Eldieme Necropolis and get an Eldieme Coffer Key. The keys are dropped by Haunts, Spriggan BLMs, Spriggan RNGs, Spriggan THFs, Spriggan WARs, Tomb Mages and Tomb Warriors. Next, find a treasure coffer. Coffers spawn in the main, ground-floor chambers at G-6, G-7, F-8 and E-8. If you drop down from the main ground floor at G-8, you can access coffer spawn points at M-11 and M-10. On that same map, coffers also spawn at L-12 and L-9. A coffer can also appear on that map at E-6, which is accessible from a part of Batallia Downs only reachable through Beaucedine Glacier. Trade your key to the coffer to receive the key item Some Old Gauntlets. You do not need to be a red mage when you open this coffer. Go back to talk to Guslam. He will say the gauntlets are work of Borghertz, but he cannot repair them. You then have to go speak to Yin Pocanakhu in the Tenshodo shop in Lower Jeuno. She talks about a toolbox that won't open. Pay her 1000 gil, and she tells you the toolbox is on a crate outside of the Duty-Free shop in Port Jeuno. Find the toolbox and examine the ??? for a cutscene, in which the spirit of Borghertz appears and asks for Shadow Flames from Castle Zvahl Baileys. Go to Castle Zvahl Baileys and examine the torch at (F-8). A notorious monster bomb by name of Dark Spark will appear. Kill Dark Spark and examine the torch a second time to get the Shadow Flames. Return to Port Jeuno and re-examine the ??? at the toolbox for a cutscene and your Warlock's Gloves. Quest SeriesThis quest is part of the Red Mage artifact armor series. Sorry no "boghertz's warring hands" is for the warriers af hands quest..
Thier are many and I "many" quest that use this same saying but with a differnet calling in the middle as of example "boghertz's _________ hands"

I did PLD gloves before, and I did SAM gloves.
but NOW trying to do rdm gloves he keeps telling me I did a great job finding the gloves... wont give me the quest... i zoned n came back still nothing.
do i gotta wait till jp midnight?

ok I went to start he quest this morning (just finishing the boots). When I talk to Guslum but he talks of finding the gloves. This is the first time I've talked to him since finishing DRK AF. Am I going to have to wait till JP midnight or just zone back in to get this quest?

How do you activate this quest again for the NQ gloves after upgrading to AF+1?
You only have to have talked to Curilla to start the boots, you don't actually have to get them. Which is good, because i think the boots are as worthless as the sword you get for AF1.

Ok just helped a LS member get this and here are the locations of spawn points of coffers 4 on main floor G-6, G-7, e-8, f-8 on second floor there are 5 more and to get to them u have to drop through various hole or tele to vazhl here they are (1)drop through hole at G-8 and they located at M-10, M-11.(2)Drop down hole in area g-9 this drops you into area L-12 wheere the coffer should be very close in that area. (3) to get this one drop through hole in area G-6 wich puts you right in reaching distance of coffer at area L-9. final coffer is located at upper Necropolis through the Glacier and it is in area E-6 (watch out for Nm spawn here) this run takes patience and at least one other person to open doors for you, also make sure you sneak your self and buddy and have invisible for being around the bombs by the door levers. this was a very frustrating thing to find and took like 4-6 hours to actually get completed after this is all done you are ready to go kill Dark Spark for flame it is a lvl 55-55 NM and you should bring help to kill it at least one other person if you are lvl 55 more people if lower id suggest. hope this helps alil cause trust me i know how frustrating this can be also this is a great site for chest and coffer locations for future refemce http://www.speakeasy.org/~sticks/ffxi/treasure/title.html

This quest is cake with a little help.
Party setup was 75BLM, 72RDM, 49THF (me for TH2).
Killed about 4 skeletons and got the key, I aggro'd one more and got a second key. 15min.
BLM used Escape, we re-entered and found the coffer in the first spawn we checked (in the far north room). 5min.
Warped to Jeuno, RDM switched to his 65WHM, I switched to my 53RDM and Tele-Vahzl. Ran to Castle Zvahl Bailey's, buffed up, killed 2 demons near the Torch, and spawned Dark Spark. 5min battle, all of us using Staffs to melee lol. 20min. All of this with 1 minute to spare before emergency maintenence. :) 45min total.
All in all with a little help from higher levels and TH2, not a bad quest.

i went after my coffer key this morning. 7 of us went and we split 3 and 4. i got very lucky as the first tomb warrior we fought dropped the coffer key and i was the only one that needed it. easy lot and win.
i spent over 3 hours searching for the coffer chest and one of my linkshell members found it controlling the northern switch. the coffer chest popped at G-7 on map 1 and i was on my way. i no sooner got to the room where the bomb was to watch someone open my chest! there they were.. 5 steps in front of me and i lost. we went back at it and found the new spawn at F-8 on map 1. based on the site i visited and the locations.. this was very accurate. http://www.speakeasy.org/~sticks/ffxi/treasure/title.html

Yea, just a casual note that no one has seemed to post here. If this is your second AF-Hands quest, you don't need to pay the npc an additional 10k to find the box.

Well, I talked to Guslam, he gave me the quest and all was well. I walk into the Tenshodo and when I talk to Yin, she doesn't talk about anything AF3 related. She just talks about Aldo and Verena, or whatever that woman's name is. So yeah, that's the case.. the Mithra girl doesn't talk about the crate or the 1000 gil or anything. Do I go to the Necropolis, get my key, get my key item, THEN talk to her? {Help me out!} PM (private message) me on Allakhazam if you have an answer, because in the near future I'll probably forget to check back here.

Yes, you have to get the key and the key item and THEN talk Yin Pocanakhu, as it says in the guide on THIS page:

I completely detest this quest... 8 weeks trying to get the key... over 100 Skeletons killed, At least 20 haunts. It was torture... seeing as the fact I found the coffer over 30 times not even trying. When I get the key, I couldn't find a single coffer.. then as I gave up there it was in a room of death. Affter that, things went rather smoothly, Two great guys helped me with the Dark Spark Fight Shogen(68 Sam), and Demonzd(65 Nin) (I believe it was). Battle went quickly. Did this all in one day when my Linkshell finally decided to help.

I guess I'm lucky. Went in there with 3 helpers (75rdm, 69whm, 70whm, and myself 56rdm)... got to the room with the human remains... found coffer right away to the south... then got key on 2nd kill. XD

Ok... I have the worst luck with this key.. so far ive been in 5 coffer key pts and I still dont have it.. ive seen 4-5 keys drop, didnt get high lot on any of them.. *slaps his own face.*
edit: i made a pt for this thing got lucky and everyone else just wanted skill ups.. got my key in my 6th pt ^^

You must also have completed (or possibly just activated (- didnt check) the af2 quest for the boots!
I tried speaking to him before this and he just pointed me in the direction of the counter ><
(He is in the first shop on the right at the big opening btw - armor shop if I remember correctly?)
Anyways, after completing af2, I could get this quest!
I never tried going back to him after activating af2 quest, so you might just have to activate the quest??

Guslam is located in the "Durable Shields" shop of Upper Jeuno, (H-8)
Sorry if this has already been answered in the posts below but... If you already have this quest started, but for DRK, and you lvl another job, RDM, and you never finished the quest on DRK, then can you:
1.Even start the quest for RDM if the DRK quest is unfinished?
2. When you pop the coffer, you will still recieve the gloves, and then you go and get the flame, but when you put them in the box, will you get the DRK gloves or the RDM gloves?
3. Can you cancel the DRK quest?
Any info on this would be helpful.

is fame a factor if u get this quest or not. i dont need to worry about it for a few more lvl but i just want to know.
Dont worry - fame isnt a consideration for af armor quests, or rse etc.
You can still activate this quest even if you have NO fame lol

your right, fame is not a requirement for AF, but it IS for RSE, you need fame to gain the quest for Buffnix (i think its him) in Muckvixs junk shop

yes you have to re-kill Dark Spark for every AF. consider it a rite of passage. you dont have to be the designated job; you can kill him as any job that you want. just complete the quest with the Key Item as your designated job.

Man I am bummed.
I hit 50 earlier today, and once I left the party I was in, I started my AF1 up to the point where I needed to open the chest, which I havent found yet...grr, and I went to the NPC that starts the Glove quest. Problem is I still have the quest for the Bard glove quest active. I tohught this wouldn't be a problem if it detected which job I was, but apparently not.
It looks like I'm going to have to do a Coffer key/chest hunt in Castle ZB, fight dark sparks, get my bard gloves. Then TAke mey Eld.Coffer key and do it all again. O.o Has this ever happen to anyone else? ^^;

Yeah, I'm about to go fight him for the 3rd time. I've already done it for PLD and BLM, getting ready to go for RDM. It's getting to the point where the Dark Spark fight is fun and a little sad. The fights are usually over in about 20 seconds. XD
Bah this isnt fun at all. I just cant find any help for a Eldime Coffer Key hunt. ; ; Its gonna take forever just to get help and to get the key. I could prob find coffer fine on my own but i sure cant get key by myself ><
Well maybe ill find sum help from sum people on Lakshmi sometime

i have been seeking help for 3 weeks and havenot even gotten so much as an offer of help which wouldnt bug me if i didnt see people shout lvl 60+ im bored ><

If anyone is on gilgamesh server and wants to get a group together then lets activate all quests and get them done, I think all rdm AF can be done in a few days, I have a few high lvls that I can count on to help so hit up (Scripture)!
