Mission Orders

Visit the faraway nations of Bastok and Federation of Windurst and receive official recognition as an adventurer.

Walkthrough

The guard sends you to talk to Halver in Northern San d'Oria. He needs you to help out at Bastok and Federation of Windurst embassies. You can do this in any order.

Bastok

If you chose to start in Bastok, go speak with Pius in the office of the President. If you have done Federation of Windurst first, you will need to speak to the San d'Orian Consulate Savae E Paleade before going to see Pius.

You will be sent to Palborough Mines to get some Mythril Sand. First, check the Auction House to see if there are any Mine Gravel for sale. If so, buy it. If not, talk to Grohm in Metalworks and he will give you three Pickaxes. Just in case, you should buy some extras. They are sold by Boytz in Bastok Mines or at the Auction House.

Note: You must talk to Grohm to get a cut scene to be able to complete this mission.

In Palborough Mines at (F-7, first floor), you will find the Mythril Seam. Use the Pickaxe on the Mythril Seam until you get a Mine Gravel. (obviously you can skip this if you bought the gravel)

Once you get the gravel, find the Refiner on the third floor at (I-7). Trade the Mine Gravel to the Refiner and the machine will begin to work. Head to the machine on the second floor and pull the lever. You should receive an oz. of Mythril Sand. You can take a shortcut back to Bastok by jumping into the boat on the third floor.

Trade the Mythril Sand to Savae E Paleade.

Next, it's off to Federation of Windurst!

Next head to the ambassador in Federation of Windurst. He sends you to a tower in Windurst Walls to get a key. Zone into Heaven's Tower and speak to Kupipi to get the key and head off to Giddeus. At this point, you will need a full group. You can buy a map of Giddeus in Windurst Woods.

When you get to Giddeus you want to go to a burning circle located at G-12 in the southwest corner. Get ready for battle. Head into the circle and a dragon will appear. You need to defeat the dragon. After you do it, report back to the ambassador and then back to the guard and you gain rank 3 and 3,000 Gil.

Federation of Windurst

If Federation of Windurst is first, then you need to take a shield offering to Uu Zhoumo, the Yagudo NPC guarding the treasure room in the lowest part of Giddeus, then you have to fight Zhuu Buxu the Silent and retrieve 2 Parana Shields and trade them to the San d'Orian consulate. They tell you to go to Bastok next where you will get tossed around to different people until you are told to go into the mines. Go with a party to the 3rd floor and head towards the burnt spot on the map, and you will zone into the next part where you will find the burning circle. Then kill the Black Dragon and see the cutscene, head back to the San d'Orian consul in Federation of Windurst, they will complete you for their part and you just need to head on home to complete the mission.

Note that this mission is given in all three kingdoms, so you can group with anyone and still complete it.

Update Notes

As of February 14th, 2011, there is no longer a level cap restriction on the mission battlefield.

Hehe, it seems we dont need a key like the windhurst dragon. I went to the circle and examined it and it asked if I wanted to enter. You can just go to the burning circle now Nagashu.

After talking to your local office, someone will tell you to go to the tree and get the shield. Once you enter the tree, go through the doors and someone there will give it to you.

25 monk/dragoon , 25 warrior/samurai, and 25 thief/??? (leveled down affect) almost won this fight. as in we killed the dragon, but lost to the eye and even than it was at 1/10th hp, so dont fret too much over this its not that bad :p
warrior started, thief sneak attack/perfect dodge, wait a few and accuracy + ancient circle + 100 fists = dead dragon. his area attack did hurt and he does have a few mean moves.

First to help people who can't get the mission.. your rank is a bit too low.. do the save the children mission again to get more rank.. or trade some crystals with the TK guy.. either way.. you gotta be at 2.7 or something like that to get the mission..

The dragon is lvl 23 and the searcher is 25 but he's a tit.. the dragon is pretty tough..

Me and a party of 5 total set the new record on Quaz.. 2minutes 11 seconds to clear the dragon and searcher..

it levels you down to 25.. so don't go getting a bunch of 30's to help out. :)

I was 22 mnk, with 23 rdm, 27 thief, 25 war, and 30 war helping out.

The quest is not hard.. but it takes forever and a day... all for a 2 minute fight with a dragon... man it was a HUGE pain.. especially cause I didn't feel like buying maps to low level dungeons for places out of my main playing region.
RE: blah.

Just a little bit of advice. Speaking from experience: When you go to the Palborough mines, bring a dozen pickaxes with you!! I broke 7 in a row trying to get the pre-refined mithral sand and had to run back to Bastok to get some more. That was a pain!

Also if you have some left over and are able to defeat the Scorpion in the mines, right behind him there is an area that can be mined. I found Mithral ore and Iron Ore there. But beware the Scorpion respawns in like 10 minutes.

Who gives the Giddeus Key and where is this npc (in heaven's tower)?

The npc is "Kupipi". Once you enter the tower, walk north and at the other end of the room is 2 doors with banners on both sides.

You go into this room to speak with Kupipi to get the key.

Yep, same problem here. I don't play enough to get into a LS with anyone & anyone I sorta know lvls 10 times faster, so then they outta me range to group.

So I wait, wait & wait some more for the 1% hope that some group will come in & have me tag along, to kill that goddamn dragon.

im doing the bastok dragon. the windurst part was easy, no problems there. But then when my friend and i get to bastok we got stuck; FOR HOURS WE LOOK FOR A PARTY! Ifrit's Bastok is a ghost town, there is nobody in it. This is the worst part of the game; getting into parties. There just aret enough people to beet this fool with. Oh well, maybe tomorow.
Clarification
# Dec 20 2003 at 3:12 AM Rating: Good
I did the first half of this quest a few hours ago, I hope this clears a few thing up.

The info above is correct up till the point where you need to mine.

Once your in the mines, you can go to the F-7 spot which is a dead end with a couple of Cave Funguars in it. They're relatively low level. You will find a mining spot that says "a mythril vein" where you will use your pick ax. You are not looking for ore here, rather you need to get "mine gravel". Take the mine gravel to I-8 where you will take the elevator to level 2. Once on level 2 find the refiner and trade the mine gravel to the "lid" and then pull the lever. Now all you have to do is fall down from level 2 to level 1. Once on level 1 pull the lever there. You will then recieve "mythril sand". You take the myril sand to the npc at the San D'Orian consulate that gave you the mythril sand part of the quest and he will then send you to Winhurst.

I hope that clears things up.

Other information that's missing
# Dec 17 2003 at 10:38 AM Rating: Default
Okay, here's the rest of it that it doesn't really explain well up there...

If you've started in Bastok, and you're now in Windurst, go to the consulate. It's located in the Windurst Woods, pretty much the same deal as what happened in Bastok. The guy @ the consulate will tell you to go get a Dark Key from the Tower in Windurst Walls. Zone into Windurst Walls, then go to the Heavenly Tower, and zone into there.

Once you zone in, on the left-hand side there are Clerical Chamber doors which you can open and walk through. When you enter, there'll be 3 Taru's sitting behind a counter. I talked to one named "Kopipi" I beleive. That one gave me the key and instructed me to go to Giddeus and slay the Dragon.

The rest of it, I'm sure you know how to do :)

Any questions, you can email me @ jacosparhawk@pol.com

Starting in Bastok
# Dec 16 2003 at 6:40 PM Rating: Default
Ok basically disregard everything that's said in the description of the quest other than that it starts in Bastok, pretty much.

If you chose to start in Bastok, go speak with the consulate guy. He'll basically give you the quest. If you're not from Bastok, however, you cannot meet with the President.

Your mission log tells you that you should go to Palborough mines to get Mythril Sands. This is true, but it doesn't explain very well how to do it. In Bastok (or from the Auction house) you can buy a Pickaxe. Buy at least a stack of them (12). Apparently a tsuruhashi is a pickaxe. There's nothing special about it, and you do not have to talk to Grohm to get one. Just go buy yourself a couple, and head to Palborough Mines.

Once your in the mines, you can go to the F-7 spot which is a dead end with a couple of Cave Funguars in it. They're relatively low level. You should be able to select a wooden frame that will allow you to mine for the ore. Basically Select the frame, then open your inventory and go down to your pick axe, click on the icon for it, and then select "Use" from the right hand menu. This will allow you to actually mine. Sometimes axes will break, othertimes you will get the ore that you're looking for.

Once you get the ore, you can head to the machine in the very middle of level 2, near the entrance to the stone Quadav's area. Select the "Lid" and trade it your ores. (Note: You can put in more than one at a time, and it doesn't matter). Then pull the lever just to the right of the lid if you're facing it. The machine will start to work and then you can go downstairs. When it says go downstairs, this is misleading, because you're thinking the lower level from where you entered. What they really mean, is basically drop down from the left side of the machine, over the cliff where the railing is missing. When you get to the bottom, pull the lever there, and out will pop all of your Mythril Sands. You should really only need the one.

Now, the quest says talk to an NPC named Pius who will instruct you further. I have yet to find this NPC, it doesn't appear to be anywhere in Bastok. Perhaps it's in San Doria.

Does anyone know where Pius the NPC is?

Thanks.
RE: Starting in Bastok
# Dec 17 2003 at 8:56 AM Rating: Default
Ok, here it is heh.

After you get the quest, and you head to bastok you go to the consulate. Savae E something is the chick's name if you are from San D. Once she gives you the quest, you go to one of the rooms in the presidents office as the other person said above there. Pius is behind a counter in there and he'll give you all this junk about the mines etc.

That allows you to speak to Grohm, another cut scene and he'll give you 3 pickaxes. You should still buy more and take them with you. They break really easily.

Once you've gone through the mining part of it as outlined above, you can go back to your consulate (Savae E something) and just trade them they Mythril Sands.

If you're like me and kinda missed the whole talking to Pius thing, just go speak to him, then Grohm, then just trade it to the Consulate person. Savae will just wish you good luck if you try and talk to her, but just trade her one of the mythril sands.

You really only need one mythril sand, and it's not a tradeable item. So you can't throw extras up on auction or anything.

Next, it's off to Windurst!
RE: Starting in Bastok
# Dec 17 2003 at 8:20 AM Rating: Default
Ok, here's a little bit more information that they give in the Windurstian Version of the quest:

Then head to the President's office (K-8) to talk to Pius and learn the importance of the of Mythril Sand to the beastmen. Lastly, meet up with Grohm in the Metalworks Craftsmen's Eatery where he will tell you the procedures and happenings in Palborough Mines.

So Pius is around there somewhere.
