Mission Orders

Royaulais Destin himself has summoned you for a vital mission. Seek audience with His Majesty in Chateau d'Oraguille immediately.

Walkthrough

Note: You must wait to start this mission until AFTER you have seen the long cut scene following the completion of Mission 8-1. This is done by turning the key item into Halver, waiting until midnight JST, then zoning into Northern San d'Oria. Once you have seen this cut scene, you should be able to get this mission from the gate guard. Also, since this mission is not a BC, anyone can come along and help you. They don't have to be on this mission, or even from San d'Oria.

After getting the mission from the gate guard go talk to the King then go to the Knights' Quarters (upon entering the castle turn left and go through he door) and talk to Rahal. Rahal should give you a key item: the Crystal Dowser. You now need to go to Temple of Uggalepih, off of Yhoator Jungle. You will only need Invisible for the entire zone, although if you are 70+, you will not get aggro through most of the area (check the mobs frequently to know when you need to Invis).

The first part requires you to get a Prelate Key (Rare/Ex and one use only) which are dropped by Tonberry Stabbers. This key allows you to enter the door for part 2. To get the key you go left upon zoning into the Temple and go through the granite door. Go north, then east, then north, following the corridor until your reach the stairs and zone out to Yhoator Jungle. From here on go straight then make a right turn followed by another right and go straight until you zone again. You're now back into the Temple with a staircase leading down and right, camp here and look for Tonberry Stabbers. The key is not a rare drop, but certainly doesn't drop on every kill, either, so bringing a thief is recommended. Once you get the key, cast Escape to get back to the front door (it's quicker). Alternatively, you can just backtrack and return to the main entrance.

The second part requires you to backtrack to the entrance. Once you enter the Temple through the main entrance at (J-11) of Yhoator Jungle, take the path leading right and keep going right until you zone out to another section of Yhoator. Turn left, keep going and you'll zone into the Temple. If you run into a wooden gate, you know you're heading the right way. Continue south (around a couple of circular rooms that look like splits in the road, but aren't in reality) until you come to a T-intersection at (H-10). Turn left and you will meet the Temple Guardian. It is a doll mob, so Barfira and/or Stun are recommended, as it will Meltdown and do a lot of damage, but other than that it's very easy. Once it is dead, the door will open leading to a room with four sets of staircases. Also in this room is the Manipulator, that aggros only to magic. He circles the perimeter of the room, which is also inhabited by a lot of Tonberries. If you have brought the recommended party you should be able to take out the Manipulator easily, but he's still tough, especially with links. There is, however, no real reason to kill the Manipulator for this quest unless you just feel like it.

There is a door right above where you first enter this room so run up the staircase directly above you, not the one on the other side. Trade the Prelate Key to enter (Note: it is a one-time-use key); the door can be re-opened from the inside. Once in, keep going and when you reach a fork in the road turn left. You should now see four doors. This is where the boss fight is.

Clear the hallway of all Tonberries and Magic Jars. Doors 1 (farthest down), 2, and 4 (closest to you) is where you need to go into and click on the ??? to receive three fragments of a broken key. In room #1, there are two ???. The first ??? will mention something about the Crystal Dowser, but will not give you a key item. There is another ??? in the same room (all the correct ??? are on bookcases) that will give you a key item. Once you have all three key items, DO NOT click on door number 3 until you are ready to fight the NM's.

When you have the fragments and are ready, touch door 3. Nio-Hum and Nio-A will pop. After killing them, click on door #3 to get a cut scene, but no key item. You will get a message saying "Your Investigation is Over." This is your cue to return to Chateau d'Oraguille. Go to the Audience chamber and the king will grant you your reward (Rank 9 and 80,000 gil).

We tried this tonight with 12 people 60-65. We had some more people who were supposed to come, but everyone was impatient. Getting there was simple enough. Have everyone bring prism powders. Luckily someone already had a key. We cleared out the hallway, the stairs and the rooms aroung the spot. Everyone was rested up and ready. We made a plan and started the fight. I (PLD 60) took one while everyone else whaled on the other, which was tanked by a WAR 65. The one I had hit me for about 150 per hit. Everyone else got hit harder. These things have painful AoE attacks that do 3-400 each. It took a while, but the first one went down, but we had lost a WHM (started with 3), and the WAR tank, and most of our 2-hours. Things went downhill from there and we all died. The second one had about 3/4 HP left. So, listen to the guide when it says recommended party of 14-15 ~65. We're going to try again tomorrow with a full alliance. Stay tuned.

Does everyone in the PT need a Prelate Key? Or only 1 is needed for the whole alliance?

Only one prelate key is needed, but the key disappears after you open the door so you'll need to get a prelate key every time you go if you are doing this multiple times or if you wipe out at the end. :)
completing the quest

Everyone who wants to complete the mission must click the ???'s in the three rooms and receive the key fragments, not just the person who triggers the NM. Fortunately, you can still grab the key items for a short time after the NMs have been defeated and get the cutscene, if anyone in your party forgot to do so. This will not spawn the NMs again. Make sure you are getting "fragment of a key" key item from the ???'s, one room has two ??? in it, so it can be confusing.

Make sure to clear out the hallway with the doors and all the rooms of monsters before triggering the NMs. The Hover Tanks in the area aggro magic and will wipe out your spell casters if they aren't dealt with beforehand.

I dunno why they left this part out of my post but the recommended party is:

Part 1 (Key) 4 x Lv. 62
Part 2 (NM fight) 14-15 x Lv. 64~

I think anonymous meant the mission does not 'require' level 65, refering to the quest description min level.

there is a Japanese Rank linkshell that just raises people's rank for money. I know a level 52 who is rank 10 because of them.
18 level 65+ can kill the NMs.

Min level is often the level that would work best and have a good chance of surviving the quest/mission. If you had the fame you could get 90% of quests at level one.

You guys wont believe what happend to me while doing this mission. We had 11 people all 64+, a couple 75 whm all the rest in the 60s. First off there is a way to get through the gate without a prelate key. Watchout for manipulator though he's pretty tough and he aggros to magic. Just voke a mob from behind the door and the door will swing open. So thats what my party did, but someone had to log off and on real quick to reset his comp. While he's resting/logging off a Tonberry logs off, next thing i know we have Iron maiden on us 3 or 4 tonberry's, AND manipulator on us. So i say do not fight here because manipulator and iron maiden aggro to magic. so we escape two people died so we have to go raise them. Now second time we get in there. Our 74 bst tries to train all the tonberries out of the way, but apparantley they didn't like him very much and they came back for us!!! So we have essentially 5 tough tonberries on us without our 74 bst because he's zoning iron maiden. We kill them (2 or 3 people die) then raise all the people and right as we raise the last person Manipulator aggros!!! So we have to fight him luckily he didn't do meltdown and we beat him. <whew> needless to say we were all pretty pissed lol, but now we can laugh about it. Anyway onto the fight you do have to clear the room before you fight these guys, maybe even twice. There are two dolls and you cannot, i repeat cannot sleep them. So what we did was focus on the left one and let our 71 pld try to tank both (man he tanked like a pro). with 11 people it was pretty messy I suggest you have atleast 12 60s with a couple of 70+.
