*shrug* when I started wood working I had 1 stack of hatchets ... I am now lvl 48.3 wood working (about 3 months due to lack of being able to get on) and I have about half that stack still. I would go logging for between 2-8 hours at a time, and not even break one but after 8 hours i would break one once in a while.
please ignore this message completly, I was attempting to figure out the syntax for quotes and didn't want to do it on a page that is used and viewed often.
I really need to look into learning some basic html.
Thats an awesome bit of informatin there, Caleryn. And I personnally appreciate every question people ask no matter how dumb it might seem. All that "couple of clicks and they'l have the answeres they need" is crap! It's hard to research stuff for the first time! Anyhows, my question is: Does field gear improve the type of logs you farm? Personally, I don't think it's worth the cost of gear if I don't end up chopping ash, elm, or better instead of arrowwood. And as far as breaking hatchets I wore my WAR gear, exchanging and kept up to level, up to WAR19 and almost never broke an axe. I got my subjob, switch to THF (THF/WAR) and went out to same logging spot and was breaking the hatchets left and right. But still not enough to sweat it. What I want is to farm the ash and elm and better logs. Will field gear get me the better logs?
I think SE may have been playing around with how often hatches break in the update. I can usually make a stack last for a couple hours of steady logging. My last two stacks have only lasted about an hour. It's still not as bad as pickaxes, but really annoying.
I used to buy my hatchets from the shop in south sandy until I took a stroll through Carpenter's Landing one day. With level 4 fame in Sandy I got hatchets for 465 from Taumila's Sundries. From the shop in Carpenter's Landing they're only 312 each! That's a pretty good discount if you buy them by the stack. Cheaper than you can craft them too. I put a list of the stuff that he sells in case you were all wondering. To find him head through the wooden door in the lower level of north sandy by all of the guild shops, and run to the dock (head through the tunnel and then tke a left to the water) I don't know what fame he uses to calculate prices, but no matter where it comes from it's still a great deal. Sandy is in 2nd, so this may not be the complete list.
With a full set of level one field gear in less than 5 mins at Ghelsba Outpost i was full of logs with no break-age at all.. but i didn't buy any wind crystals so i couldn't stack them (>.<) so i'm omw to Sandy to buy some and sell these logs ^.^
Theres a link to the left that says "Guilds" and underneath that "Guild Recipie List..." go there and check out the woodworking. Also, go above to the tradeskill forums and check out Sticky: FAQ: Tradeskill Guides, Links and Useful Posts™. great post on various crafts
Maybe if we stop replying to these, they will ACTUALLY DO THEIR OWN RESEARCH :o Or maybe they will just spam their question, which is more likely, even though all the information they are looking for is like 3 mouse clicks away.
lol, this is so true it made me laugh... yea i counted the clicks it took to get to Woodworking Craft List and i got it in 2 clicks, but thats besides the point...
I usually go logging without any field equipment on and I get pretty good results like an elm log here and there and sometimes 2 or 3 elm logs in a row. Of the two times I purchased field equipment and used it while logging, I...
1) Chopped crappy logs. 2) Broke my hatchets like they were toothpicks.
Anyone know why this is happening?
Btw, elm goes for 4k in Titan. :-D just something I thought maybe all of you should know.
Just a quick tip i've found keep my hatchet breaks to a minimum. After you use a hatchet and get a log...ever notice it seperates 1 hatchet from the stack? Auto-sort your inventory to keep the stack together and i've found you don't break NEAR as many as if you just run around logging like a madman.
Does anyone know any other spots to log besides Ghelsba Outpost(my main spot)or East/West Ronfaure? I mean I'm not complaining, Ghelsba's great, I make like 20k a day there just off of Elm logs and making Arrow lumber. But it can get a bit boring and crowded at times. Just wanna know if theres anywhere else to go. BTW hatchets in Sandy are cheaper acording to your fame, I can get mine for about 470 each from Tamila's Sundries.
LOL are you serious? Because 20k a day is nothing.. I never tried logging before, but after reading that I don't think i ever want to (unless i start woodworking).
Jugner Forest is an excellent location for logging. If you check the tradeskill forums on this site, you can find links to maps of logging point locations.
if u want to go logging again, recycle ur maple lumber with 2 bronze ingots (fire crystal) maybe some image support for first smithers and presto 1 hatchet for about 300-400 gil :D
Well i started in san d..lots of points in romfarue..so i decide to give it a try. saw it was 6500 stack, so i big 5k and to my delights, it said i got it... only stupid me bid for ONE and not a STACK.... D'oh.
Same thing happened to me with fire crystals once... Going for 1600 and I bid 1200, accidentally buying one. I check the price history though, and the one *right before mine* sold for 1600 even! Same seller too!
Two quick funny stories from me, nothing to do with Hatchets. 1. bought 12 lightning crystals from a bazaar at 1200gil each. Only made that mistake 1 time. 2. Bought a Sheep Skin for 11,000gil at AH, meant to buy a stack of sheep leather. -Svt-Sylph-
5/17/05 Hatchets: I heard Hatchets last longer than Pickaxes, I'll test it out and add to this post.
5/17/05-Edited for spelling. Added Hatchet comment.
First of all, don't try to go logging without at least 5 hatchets. You are able to buy hatchets from Ostalie in San d'Oria. These are around 500 each, or a stack from AH at about 5k. Go to Ghelsba Outpost no sooner than lvl 7. run around pushing tab until you see a "Logging Point" in green. Go up to the purple arrow, and use your preset macro, see above post, or go to inventory and select hatchet, push enter, then enter again. This will start you logging. You will get one of 4 results. There are 6 kinds of log you will get at Ghelsba, without any enhancing equipment. Arrowwood, Maple, Ash, Willow, Holly, Elm. Using wind crystals you can synthesize Lumber. Lumber is stackable, logs are not. At beginning levels you can only make Arrowwood and Maple lumber. Everthing else you will have to store at single logs in your inventory. It is possible to synthesize Ash but until you hit level 5 more often than not you will fail. DO NOT TRY TO SYNTHESIZE WILLOW, HOLLY, OR ELM. These are strickly level 6 and up.
1. You failed to cut anything. Repeat on same tree until you get one of the next options.
2. You break your hatchet. Use another hatchet on tree until you get one of the next optoins.
3. You break your hatchet, but cut a ****** log. Use another hatchet on three until you get the next option.
4. You sucessfully cut a ******* log. This Logging Point is finished, you are unable to use it again, until next "spawn."
VERY IMPORTANT: You will be able to cut a piece of wood from every logging point. The only time a logging poing will go away is when you cut a log, without breaking your hatchet. Do no leave a logging point until you have done this.
The mobs in the first level of Ghelsba are lvl 6-8 mobs. So if you are trying to make money, and are level 10 or so, I suggest you leave most of your armor in your safe, so you have plenty of room for logs. In the beginning you will be running back to the AH a lot to sell the room eating logs. When you get to lvl 5 or 6 and can synthesize most of the lumber it becomes a lot more efficient. You will not make too much money, even when you synthesize into lumber. The wind crystals are not cheap, and often will only break even. The biggest money maker if the ELM LOG. Do not try to synthesize these or else you will lose them. On Leviathan, they sell for 2-2.5k each log. I average about 2 elm logs per hatchet. This more than pays for the stack of hatchets and wind crystals, and essentially pays for your craft leveling, and then some. There are other logging places i.e. Jugner Forest, Kazham (Yughotta Forest) not sure on spelling. These places will give you better logs, but require higher levels to keep from constant agro. Ghelsba can get sort of crowded from time to time. There are usually about 4 logging points, and sometimes you will be fighting higher level players for them. Just be Patient. There are plenty to go around. if you do not see any just keep running from one side to the other pushing tab until you find one. then push * and you will lock onto it. After this I suggest using macro, and cutting fast. The quicker you cut, the more you cut, the fast you make money. Good Luck.
There are 2 loggings points active in Ghelsba, and these CAN be the same tree. I once got 5 logging points in a row from the 2 trees in the back of the orc camp, with one tree having 3 logs.
I bought one in san doria im fairly new to the game, how do you use? i see target logging point up as a response but that doesnt tell me anything, how do you get this point?
Probably figured this out by now, but go into inventory, select Hatchet, USE item with Logging point selected. Press enter once to see purple arrow on logging point, press enter again to chop.
I bought a hatchet for 1000gil from the AH. Went to the logging point in Gheslba Outpost. Used the hatchet, and it broke after smacking it ONCE into the tree! I got a maple something log (one piece) and the hatchet was gone!
Now how can you make "good" use of logging if you spend more on tools that break than what you get out of it?
I hear you! This is what i suggest. Buy ONE piece of Field equipment that gives you +1 to Logging and +1 to Mining. I have Field gloves, bought it for 1300gils in Garuda. Then buy ONE stack of Hatchets.
I've had my Hatchets for a couple of months now, still have like 7 of them. It seems that with the field gear, you don't break them as often. I also noticed better logging results.
Best place for Logging I have seen so far is at the entrance of Ghelsba Outpost - San D'Oria. There's like 4 logging points at soon as you enter.
It all depends on your luck really, i had a friend with a full set of logging equip, and he still break his hatchet one first try sometimes, but he does log better lumber like mahogany and such
Thanks for the macros - I've been lazy about it, so I didn't think of one. Hey, since you seem to know a thing or two about macros...
If I wanted to target a particular opponent by name; say a Goblin Weaver even though he's sorrounded by bats, what would I use? The following examples didn't seem to work for me:
Target logging point, open items menu, with cursor on hatchet press 'enter' once to get option USE in upper right corner. Select USE and press enter again. Hatchet takes over from there.
