Description

These mines, nestled in the Northeastern corner of North Gustaberg, are still in relatively good shape -- much of the machinery even still functions. Yet the tunnels and shafts have become infested with beastmen and monsters. The Mines themselves are divided up into three "floors", each progressively more difficult than the last. On the top floor is an unusual shrine with a Burning Circle that seems to lead somewhere else.

Either use the lift or go up by the mythril refinery.

i was wondering how to use the machine.
you pull the lever and it says the machine still works but i am unsure of it's purpose i'm pretty sure you need mine gravel, which i have, but have not been able to place in the machine. is this quest related or what?
RE: refiner
# Feb 19 2004 at 9:35 PM Rating: Decent
Click once on the door of the refinery machine and "trade" it up to 8 mine gravels, then pull lever. You must then go down a level to the other part of the machinery to get the mythril sand.

Burning Circle

You have to enter from the west side. If you notice the burned off porrtion of the map, you can't enter from the north. Enter from the west.

Once you complete the boss fight, you are transported to north of the burned off portion. There is a boat to Bastok located on the river. Use this to quickly get back to town.

Nevermind, I found out.
this site had me confused because they never listed the Palborough mines Dragon fight, but if for your 6th mission you help Bastok 2nd then you fight the Pal mines dragon. Apparently he uses petrify.
Also, I heard that you can buy Orbs in Jueno for 40, 50 and 60 beastman seals, different amounts give different orbs, each orb, when used at a burning circle takes you to a different boss. Or so I've heard.

I hope this helps others who were as confused as I was

I have to mention that my party of 7 was looking for Fetich parts for mission 3 and were doing well. Then everyone but me and another dropped dead. I looked and there were at least 13 greater and veteran quadavs around us. I thought that they all spawned on us, but apparhently someone opened a door and they flooded out... My friend took screenshots before he died, and they are actually kinda funny in that "Oh dear god we're gonna die" kinda way.

Yesterday we had a 10 character alliance. We were on the third floor and approached Zi'ghi Boneeater. He con'ed "Impossible to estimate the strength of this monster." So, of course, we attatcked him. We defeated him, losing only one member, when suddenly at least 20+ Quadav's (Onyx, Veteran, and Greater) appeared and annihilated our entire party. Anyone know anything about this "event?"

Quadav cannot see through walls, but they can certainly see through gates.

They're also intelligent enough to know the layout of their own lair and that they cannot get to you through the closed gate just west of where you undoubtably met Zi'ghi.

So instead, they run through the tunnels to where they can get at you, and bring along every friend they find along the way.

Hence; when on the third level of Palborough, stay away from closed gates.

Anyone know what level range a group should be before visiting the dragon in palborough? I've heard low to mid 20's, but I've also heard there's a level cap, so I don't want to overshoot

The level limit on the Battlefield is 25. Anyone over this level will have their level temporarily reduced to 25.

As far as I know, they're not. Someone probably got confused with the Zeruhm Mines, which connect with Bastok Mines. The second exit from Zeruhm (which leads to a tunnel that I believe goes under the sea to the old home of the Galka) doesn't help matters much, either.
RE: linked?
# Nov 11 2003 at 5:40 PM Rating: Default
They are actually linked. There is a cart/boat on an upper level of Pal. mines which takes you on a one-way trip back to the Z. mines. It's on the floor that the elevator takes you to.

A Boss Encounter is a rather unique thing; unlike merely killing a Notorious Monster that happens to spawn, Boss Encounters involve deliberately initiating a sequence of events that lead to the encounter, no chance involved. If the Boss Encounter is a part of the game's Mission structure, it will also involve a cutscene.

While I despise spoiling too much, I will say that the Burning Circle deals with it, and the levels that participate in it are typically the low 20s at least. (Burning Circles only allow one party of 6 in at a time)

I have gotten the quest pieces from first floor Quardav things. I think you could get decent exp at about level 6 to start if you were very careful and stayed near the exit.

I was wondering if there is a boss battle in this area, and if so how can you trigger it? I've been itching to see a boss battle for awhile now. If there is not one here, could someone point me to the first of them that can be fought?

Ah, the Palborough Mines. A great strike for Bastok when the veins of Mythril were first discovered, and then a horrid run of luck when the Quadav decided to take it over.

Nestled in the Northeastern corner of North Gustaberg, these mines are still in relatively good shape -- much of the machinery even still functions. Yet the tunnels and shafts have become infested with Beastmen and monsters.

The Mines themselves are divided up into three "floors", each progressively more difficult than the last. On the first, you can find easier Quadav, Rabbits, & Beetles to fight.

Some tougher Quadav and Funguars are added to the mix on the second level. The second level is also where the mighty Refiner is located, a piece of machinery that extends up from the first level. Some say that near its base a particularly nasty Quadav likes to hang out.

Finally, on the third floor, often reached by elevator from the first, there is a gridlike network of passageways that connects with a variety of tunnels, caverns, and even an underground river. The nastiest of the Quadav and even some rare undergound Scorpions reside here, along with their notorious leaders. Also, deep within this level, is an unusual Shrine whose Burning Circle seems to lead somewhere else.

(A clarification about maps: both Rex (Port) and Karine (Market) will sell you guides to Palborough.)

Monsters: Pit Hare, Quadav: Young, Amber, Amethyst, Onyx, Greater, Veteran, Brass, Copper, Old. Copper Beetle, Cave Funguar*, Mine Scorpion, Scimitar Scorpion, Zi'ghi Boneeater, 2 other NMs*

Fetich Pieces
# Nov 06 2003 at 9:57 AM Rating: Default
I can confirm that one does not need to defeat the tougher Quadevs to earn pieces, however they are a rare drop, so it may take a while. I went in solo with a level 9 monk and got two of the four pieces in under two hours, so I think it is the luck of the draw.

So just be patient and make up some good turtle fighting jokes to occupy your thoughts, because you may be in for a wait.

Maybe the drop rate is higher on tougher Quadevs, though I am not about to test this theory myself....

Anyone know?
RE: Fetich Pieces
# Nov 12 2003 at 8:47 PM Rating: Decent
i was on the floor the elevator takes you , and i was getting fetich pieces left and right , i think they do drop more commonly from the harder ones , cause even at level 20 warrior/10 monk they can beat me down cause they agro.

but i would bet its safe to say i was getting a fetich piece every other Quadev or so.

took me a whole of about 15 to 30 minutes to get all four of the pieces.
