I think these cap at lvl 10 with the x3 copper and x1 zinc. I say this because when i got to lvl 9 i got a .2 skill up. Then i got .1, .2, .1, .2, .1, .1, .1 from making brass sheets which gave me lvl 10 goldsmithing. That only adds up to .9 and with the .2 one could have carried over.
The recipe of 1 lightning crystal, 1 brass ring caps higher than 13. My goldsmithing is 13 and I just got a skill up.

I've been desynthing brass rings for brass ingots, the cap is suppossed to be 13, but i was doing it at lvl 14 + advanced synthesis support, so i was lvl 17 and got .2 skill up off it. so the cap for desynthing brass rings must be at least lvl 18.
this is probably one of the best things to do, i am now level 14 goldsmith and im still grinding for skill on these...
dont forget to use these to make brass rings (2 ingots) and then grind them to make 1 or 2 ingots again... probably the most cost effetive thing to do until you hit the 18 exam tbh
Yeah, light crystal + brass mittens will not synth to ANYTHING..i just wasted about 3k cause i was going to skill up on these. please remove from synthing list.
No, your not crazy, your just stupid, when you HQ something, you usually get more than one item, or a better version of the item, and i am also assuming that you were desynthing brass rings and got 2 ingots, which may not be all that uncommon
how do i get lvls over 10 after synthing these? i heard u have to take a test. do u know if thats correct and if so where do i go to take the test? who do i talk to?
It seems that I can never make these, even with the aid of smithing image support. The crystal always breaks when i try to make one, yet I gain a few points in smithing.
I've made these for ever, I started at like skill 2-3 with no synth help, got my skill up to 9 MAX, i now can make a whole stack without failing once so im lost... is its Skill required actually lvl 10 or is that just the max i can get it too off of making Brass ignots (now almost 15k in jeuno on my server)
OK ^^ I can make these pretty easy and well no skill ups but a stackl goes for around 10,000 Gil. I mine all my ore and save myself a ton of Gil. I like this item. ^^
I've been making Brass Ingots for quite a while now (skill level 3), and they've been giving me skill ups fairly consistently (.1 every 2 or 3 tries) up until I hit skill level 9. My last 12 haven't upped my skill, so I'm guessing 9 is the cap for these. I'll keep testing to make sure that's correct.
I am now a lvl10 GS, I had been making brass ingots since I was lvl7 GS, till this day even on fire days I STILL fail! and the NPC from the guild only told me this recipe at lvl9 GS so this is not a lvl2 GS item!

I could make this combination with level 0 goldsmithing and it gave me a +0.1 increase.
I failed on first attempt, so it might be difficult, but made it and without synthesis support.
Edit - recently there were changes to the allakhazam website, and base skills were no longer posted on this item. For this reason my post may befuddle some of you but I assure you, back then it made sense! Just smile and nod, and revel in the present. Good times!!
I don't know why, I got lvl4 in gold smithing but I keep breaking/fail to make them, I can only make them 1 out of 4-5 try and lost zinc every time >.<
I've made three ingots so far (I'm a thief, I get LOTS of beastcoins) and so far there's been no change in my smithing skill, nor any "gains .0" or anything that would signify any change. Any idea how much activity it takes to start earning skill levels? And, yes, I'm a member of the guild. Thanks.
Sorry to break that news to you. I have been leveling Goldsmith a lot and I am only at lvl 14 (about to hit 15). It is VERY EXPENSIVE and unless you know where to find resources and what items are cost effective to grind, you will be in for a long haul. After you reach the first test, I don't think you earn skill by crafting ingots. Talk to the NPC at the guild shops and they give you items you can craft at your lvl. Depending on who you talk to, the NPC will give you ideas that may give you xp for crafting the item. Hope this helps and good luck to ya...=)
*****Correction***** Let me clarify by saying that the ingots I am referring to are brass. Once you hit the lvl after amateur (think its initiate) you can start crafting silver ingots which will grant you xp for that lvl only. If you thought the cost of zinc and brass ingots were high, wait til you get to the silvers =/ Once you pass that, you got mythril and darksteel to look forward to. Hope you are not attached to your gil.
If I'm not mistaken, brass beastcoins dont drop. Even if you were doing fire crystal + 4 copper beastcoins, it should take you up to ~3 goldsmithing. I've been doing the 3 copper ore + 1 zinc ore method (since I have no clue where to get brass nuggets), and it continued to give me skill past 6 goldsmithing (yes, brass and copper ingots are goldsmithing, not blacksmithing!).
p.s. Membership in the guild only provides 2 things: temporary skill support and skill advancement tests. You can get up to 10 in any skill without ever joining a guild. However, to break that 10 skill cap, you will need to take an advancement quest from the guildmaster.
