Mission Orders

Ulmia is determined to know the truth, and is ready to revisit Bahamut to learn it. Enlist the aid of Tenzen and Justinius to help you find Ulmia before something terrible occurs.

Walkthrough

Check on another Dilapidated Gate at (F-7) Misareaux Coast for another cutscene and you will be able to access to Riverne Site B01 this time from the Spatial Displacement. B01 has a level cap of LV50 this time so make sure you have the right equipment prepared at Safehold first. The navigation pattern for B01 is more or less the same as A01 in Chapter 2, where you'll need 1 Giant Scales from the Pyrodrake wyverns to pass through the Unstable portal. The final spatial displacement at (E-8) will bring you to the BC holding area of Monarch Linn.

BC fight of LV50 against the great dragon of Ouryu. This dragon has the ability to fly, which makes all close range attacks useless.

After the fight, return to the safehold. Go to the top floor and talk to Justinus at (J-6) for a cutscene. This mission is done procede to the next.

Ouryu's Tactics

Mob TP Moves

TP moves on the ground:

  • Absolute Terror: Terrorizes whoever has hate for roughly 30 seconds. Players who are terrorized are frozen in place and cannot do anything.
  • Geotic Breath: Frontal earth-based cone attack. Tank can take roughly 700 damage if standing directly in front of Ouryu. Damage is less if standing slightly off to the sides (on Ouryu's feet).
  • Spike Flail: Devastating AoE attack used if someone behind Ouryu takes hate. Utsusemi shadows will absorb this attack.
  • Horrid Roar: Dispels up to 10 buffs on a single target, including food effects.
  • Typhoon Wing: Frontal AoE attack that does 100-180 damage, as well as blind.

TP moves in the air:

  • Bai Wing: AoE earth damage that does up to 385 dmg unresisted. Also causes the effect of slow.
  • Ochre Blast: AoE earth damage that does around 400 damage.

Other Ouryu attacks and abilities

  • Evasion and spell resistance boost while airborne: Ouryu gains evasion boost which cannot be dispelled, as well as an increased resistance to sleep and other spells.
  • Touchdown: AoE damage of roughly 140 dmg per player when Ouryu lands without the party using a mistmelt.
  • Alternates between walking and flying every 2 minutes.
  • Usually uses invincible when around 70 percent health.
  • Uses a powerful stoneskin at the start of the fight, and he recasts later on.
  • Casts Slowga
  • Casts Stoneaga II
  • Ouryu's attacks on the ground are physical.
  • Ouryu's airborne attacks are elemental and will ignore utsusemi, invincible and other forms of physical damage reduction. His unresisted attacks while flying do 280 dmg.

Other Ouryu Notes

  • When Ouryu takes off, the wyrm can be brought back to earth using a Mistmelt. These items are obtained through the quest Fly High. They can also be bought from the auction house.
    • Don't use mistmelts on Ouryu if he's asleep in the air, as the mistmelt won't work until the wyrm wakes up.
  • Ouryu is resistant all forms of stun.
  • Ouryu can be slept with sleep and repose.
  • Blind, Paralyze and Silence all stick on Ouryu, but resistance builds after a few casts.
  • Slow does not stick on Ouryu.
  • Ouryu will return to his starting position and regen to full if the party is KO'd.

BCNM Strategy for Standard Party Setup

This setup assumes you have a tank, a healer, a support job and three magic or physical damage dealers.

What to bring to the fight

  • Plan on bringing eight mistmelts per fight; that's enough mistmelts to ensure victory despite most of the worst situations, assuming the party remains focussed and doesn't panic.
  • Tanks and melee DDs should bring hi-potions.
  • Paladin tanks (recommended for this fight) should also bring Yagudo drinks and hi-ethers.
  • Mages should also bring ethers and yagudo drinks. A Vile elixir is also helpful.
  • Other regen drinks are also recommended.
  • All party members should also bring reraise.
  • Someone in the party must have dispel or an alternative form of dispel.
  • Someone in the party must have Sleep II.
  • barstonra and repose are extremely helpful.

Battle Plan

  1. Split up mistmelts among tank and melee DDs and establish a mistmelt order.
  2. Enter BCNM, buff up and rest.
  3. Begin the fight by running in and sleeping Ouryu. The tank and melee DDs should get in position by standing on Ouryu's front feet. Tank provokes/flashes to grab hate. Mages stand off to the side of Ouryu, BUT NOT BEHIND OURYU, to avoid frontal AoE attacks and spike flail.
  4. Once Ouryu is sleeping, immediately cast dispel on Ouryu to remove his stoneskin.
  5. Tank and melee engage the moment Ouryu's stoneskin is gone. Mages should cast barstonra on melees and paralyze and silence on Ouryu.
  6. Ouryu will take off 2 minutes after being hit with the first sleep. Tank and melees should stay in place and immediately use a mistmelt to bring Ouryu down.
  7. Ouryu lands, fighting continues. Watch for Ouryu to recast dispel after landing. Dispel must always be removed immediately.
  8. Continue this cycle until Ouryu uses invincible.
  9. When Ouryu uses invincible, ALL MELEES DISENGAGE. Mage immediately sleeps Ouryu. Take this opportunity to cure melees and rest mp.
  10. Ouryu will most likely fly the moment he wakes up. Immediately bring him down with a mistmelt. Resume fighting, as his invincible has worn off. Watch for stoneskin recast.
  11. Continue until Ouryu's health is around 55 percent. At that point, everyone should unleash two-hour abilities (except ninjas). Be ready to use a mistmelt to bring Ouryu down quickly if needed, and watch out for stoneskin recast. The blast of 2-hrs is usually enough to bring Ouryu to 30 percent, when he gives up.

If at any point in the battle things begin to go south, sleep Ouryu and allow mages to rest. Remember that Ouryu usually takes flight after waking up from sleep (because 2 minutes have passed), so have someone ready to use a mistmelt. Ouryu can then be slept again upon landing. This can give your party valuable time to rest mp or unweaken members who had been KO'd. This is where bringing extra mistmelts can be extremely beneficial.

Can anyone tell me how to turn hippogryph tailfeathers into Mismelts? Or, if that's not how you get Mismelts, how you do?

Thanks :)

Edit: I found it and thought I'd post for anyone else who's having trouble. Talk to Ferchinne at (F-9) in Tavnazian Safehold and trade him 2 hippogryph tailfeathers; he'll give you a Mismelt. Also, the Mismelt is Ex, not Rare/Ex.

After hearing so many horror stories about this COP Mission, i was pretty sure were gonna lose.

Anyways, our LS decided to try this fight, to see what we are up against(we're thinking its a suicide mission). The party setup is:
smn >> neomorpheus
smn >> aeyon
smn >> elanassa
rng >> digerati
rng >> catz
blm >> eriond

You will notice one thing, yes we don't have a tank. This is our first try, and we didn't have any mistmelt to force ouryu to go down to the ground once he takes flight.

All 3 smn start with 2hr, Garuda's Aerial Blast owned Ouryu. The blm didn't get a chance to cast freeze on him since the fight went so smoothly.

We will try again today, for the another LS member that needs it ^^.

I just did this fight yesterday night. Our party was: Pld, Nin, Rng, Whm, Rdm, Blm (me).

We did a few "dry runs" to get a feeling for this fight. So far, we always have done "dry runs" to learn more about the fight before using our good meds/food/drinks.

Some things we learned:

You only need one Drake Scale to get to the BC. If you think you need 2, you are going through the wrong Spacial Distortion. The Distortions are located at: M9 (stable), G8 (unstable), F6 (stable), and E7 (stable). The BC is on the south end of the small island located at E8. The island at E7 has 4 Spacial Distortions, you want to use the one on the south center of the island.

The Roc's that you find along the way don't aggro. The Hippo's, of course, have true sight and will aggro.. but they are fairly blind. The Drakes will aggro on sight. The Clusters will aggro magic (and sight, I believe)

Ouryu does a LOT more damage when he is in the air than when he is on the ground.

So, trying to keep him on the ground is a big plus. This means everyone should have a Mistmelt. The thing to note though, if you have a Whm in your party, put the Whm last in your Mistmelt order. The Whm will, most likely, be too busy curing to run up and throw the Mistmelt.

When Ouryu lands, he will cause damage to anyone near him with his Touchdown move.

Our Rdm was able to land Gravity, Paralyze, Blind, Silence and Sleep 2 (and Sleep) on Ouryu. Bind does stick, but not for very long. You can not sleep him when he is flying. Sleep 2 lasted for over 50 seconds.

Shadowbind is a good way to keep him in place (if you have a Rng)

My Our general strategy was to run in and fight him. When he took off, we used our Mistmelt to bring him back down. We did this until our Whm was running low on MP. At this point, our Rdm cast Sleep 2 on him. We then rested until we were almost full. Ouryu was around 50% health. After some more fighting, I cast Freeze; which was followed by the Rng's EES. Ouryu gave up after that.

Freeze did 774 hp worth of damage on Ouryu. EES did about 484 damage on Ouryu. And Bliz2 did about 250-280 damage.

Ouryu has a terror attack that will freeze your Paladin. It cannot be erased, so deal with it if it happens.

To counter the various Wing attacks, try using Baraera. You can use Barstonra if you really want to but your mages should be able to keep Ouryu silenced (RDM is great at this). Baraera cuts the damage from Bai Wing/Typhoon Wing/etc Wing.

Go farm your Hippogryph Tailfeathers for mistmelts. The most recent patch upped the drop rate. My team pulled in 10 tailfeathers / 5 mistmelts in under two hours.

I just beat this BC first try, with a little lucky and some nice strategy it wasn't too bad. The set up was PLD, RNG, RNG, SMN, WMM, RDM. A really good trick is to have the SMN save their 2 hr for when he goes in the air the first time then hit it and Garuda should have hate and everyone else run away and let garuda tank it. Let garuda at it till she dies, in the mean time using more Astral flows and it saves the PT from taking alot of DMG. After this it was around 60-70%. Pld tanked it till it went in the air again and then he hit invincible. We all gathered, I did benediction and went back to work. 2 hr brought it down lower and RDM finished with Chainspell Aero II for about 200 each. There were some close calls, times when the PLD had 1 HP lol. But he spammed Hi pots, had about 13. Partially my fault, I was used to 40 caps and forgot about Cure IV ;; That would have helped alot. so good luck!!!

During one my attempts to take Ouryu, he used one attack, Geotic Breath, that virtually one shotted the tank (800 damage to a Hume PLD using food, buffs, etc.). I've been told it's a directional attack, that decreases in damage the further you are from Ouryu. Also, some say that if you are not standing directly in front of Ouryu's mouth, then the attack may not be as deadly. Luckily, I only saw this one time, so it seems to be a rare attack, but if he does it, you'll probably have to high tail it out of the BC.

Another way to do this is with one BLM and a SMN, the SMN after putting up blinkga on the PT and stoneskinga keeps garuda out (make sure ya do blinkga last so garuda has blink as well) at the start of the fight have RDM sleep him and dispell him and everyone hangs back, tank gets vokes off and the blm start to freeze it. Right before the freeze goes off the smn Astral Flows and use's gardua to tank (and that works VERY well) garuda wont need to be sent away and can tank him for all 3 fireing's of astral flow you will have that much time to fire it off easy. While the smn is astral flowing the BLM is still either getting MP for the next freeze or castting again (just cast right when you have the MP). The RDM will keep him Dispell'd and the whm scilenced since with garuda tanking there wont be much healing needed, this gets him down to 55% HP left very fast and can be done when hes air born easy, Astral Flow will reach him if he's in the air, and of course so will freeze. and as all other strats, if/when he land's sleep him to buy sometime. Whne we fought him he land'd just after the 3rd and final Astral Flow, bringing 2-3 smn's total and a BLM would blow him to bit's.

Our PT setup we had was war/nin, whm/blm, smn/whm, blm/whm, rdm/whm, sam/whm

Ouryu's moves are very predictable. Knowing this, it is very easy to cheese this BCNM with 2 BLMs, 1 RDM and mistmelts. If you don't have any mistmelts, farm some, they are key to winning this BC.

Step-by-step directions for 100% WIN with Ouryu

1) Have PLD or NIN tank Provoke. Ouryu will always instantly cast Stoneskin, so have your RDM dispel that. RDM casts Sleep II

2) BLMs both begin casting Freeze at the same time. Once they land, Ouryu will wake up, start flying, and use Invincible.

3) Designated Mistmelt holder uses a Mistmelt to bring Ouryu back down to the ground. RDM sleeps Ouryu again.

4) BLMs Aspir Ouryu (yes he is Aspirable), use Hi Ethers, do whatever it takes to get 307 MP again.

5) BLMs repeat casting Freeze on Ouryu. He will ALWAYS fly when he wakes up and gets hit by 2 Freezes, so Mistmelt holder bring him down again.

6) RDM sleeps Ouryu again, BLMs Manafont and Freeze him again for the win. If he's not dead by this time have everyone else unleash their strongest moves, because Ouryu's not going to be happy.

-He will fly when he loses 15% HP and land when he loses 30% HP. He seems to alternate flying and landing at 15% HP invertals.

-While in the air he will do all sorts of fun moves on your PT. Try Ocher Blast, which is guaranteed to put your entire PT into red. or Bai Wing which does 400 damage as well as blind. During my run, these two moves were never a problem, as Ouryu was grounded most of the time.

-He hit me, a BLM, for 225 damage + 30 Enstone effect. Ouch.

- I'm told he can use Spike Flail, so take care to stay in front of him and SA+TA off of his rear leg.

- He is susceptible to every debuff in the book except Slow and Rasp.

The strategy we ended up using was near the same. Sleep him on the ground and kite him (with a ninja) in the air. When we finally gave up on trying to be all sneaky and such we beat him pretty easy this way.

If you really want an easy job in defeating this guy, you could always do what i did.

I got a random japanese party thatw as doing /sh for the mission. I joined and we eventually got to the bc.

Our setup was 3 blms, 2 rngs and a brd. No tank at all.

What we did was ran in, slept him, and then debuffed him. Then we did freeze x3, and barrage x2. Then he went into the air for around one second and came back down, not even hitting anyone. He was then re-slept and we rested a little and did freeze x3 again. Rngs were just on standby.

After he was freezed again, he was at 40% hp. He went into the air and one blm kited him, he kileld the blm and then went back to the ground. we slept him and rested mp for one more freeze. One more was enought to finish him off.

One casulty, no tank, and a new record of 6 minutes and 13 seconds.
