Hey everyone, When I leveled off this for cooking way back when, I had a helluva a time finding millioncorn for cheap (i.e. from NPC or growing it yourself). Ok guys heres the money rundown... (Prices From Sylph and Windurst Waters)
Crystal - ~85g Corn - ~50g Worm - ~8g Water - ~12g Sum of the Cost - ~155g per synth
Now for the Payout (per synth) - 25 to 30g a piece x 12 = 300 to 360g
So off of one synth Your Profit is 145g to 205g. This is when you buy all of your Items from the AH or Shops in Windy... There is a major profit here. :) Hope it helps

You can start synthing these (with advanced imaginery) at 19-20 skill. Be prepared to have a lot of breaks if you do it on any other day but water, until about 24.
These have been selling slow in windy, or I'm just being impatient. Likely option number two. :)

after you get dont creating your selbina butter (cap lvl 20) this is the stuff to craft!
Earth crystals:500-1000 (dependent on server) Millacorn: not sure on price but between 30-80 each Litte Worm: Merchant~4g a peice Distilled watter: less then 12gil
your probably paying about 2k ish for a full 12 synths but you get a stack per synth.
Each stack sells for 400-800 depending on server, and if you add that up you get
1 stack of each material= 144 insect balls (12 stacks)
400-800x12= 4800-9600 - 2k (from creation)
Grand total = Profit of 2800-7600 gil, i think its one of the best profitable skill ups for cooking.
Just think youl be so consumed with the money your making, the 9 lvls will fly by. HAVE FUN, i make around 20k per day on insect paste per DAY!!

Crafting insect paste for cooking skillups til 29 - Great idea.
Selling your insect paste at AH for 400-800 (1k currently for me) - Foolish.
Go catch yourself some moat carp with the bait and sell a stack of that for 10k-13k. Sells WAY faster than the bait alone could ever, and for TONS more.
Since this new update to the fishing system these things have gone up to 1.4k a stack in jeuno and they sell extremely fast. This has givin me a reason to continue with my cooking and in about 3 hours i made around 40k selling these :)
I used Paste to get from 20->29 ... bout to make pineaple juice for 30.
Everything can be bought right in windurst waters except for the crystals.
Millioncorn can be bought form teh guild (though they run out alot) distilled water from the tavern, adn littel worms from the general store by the teleporter.
SO with advanced image support and the closeness of amterials waters is a pretty good spot to make it ~
Oh ~ and just head over to woods and load your bazaar. price around 20~25 and you will turn a profit and sell out fast

I'm lvl 20 and I can't get the insect paste to work for nething! I've gone thru 2 stacks of crstals already even with advanced synth. support. Is there nething I can do to make this easier, or should I just lvl on something else?
I finally made it to Kazham, and I discovered they also sell these there. Can't remember the name of the NPC offhand, but it was at the grocery store I think.

It is very possible to fail cooking at level 100 just luck of chance :-) luckly i have good luck level 30 skill 0 failed once i was full on skill for this craft.
Right now im doing this at 19 with Adv. Image Support. Ive failed alot, but, I get a good .2 when I do manage to do it. So im happy with it, and theres not a half bad return on it. Good Luck everyone!
Getting to 10 or so will require a lot of money, just because there are no profitable synths.
You _might_ profit if you buy items in stacks and sell the results individually, but I doubt it, and it'd take a _long_ time.
OTOH, if you are a mage, you can make OJ and use it to farm faster, earning you money.
In my server, Selbina Butter goes for about 700 on Bastok right now, so I suppose I could synth that for profit. Butter is a L20 item, and it's what you do after you are done with OJ.
Once you max out on Butter or Apple Juice, _then_ you can start making Insect Balls.
i was in sandy cooking these with 30 cooking, and every once in awhile i would fail, not a whole lot but every once in awhile, since i am over the cap, shouldnt i not fail??
Sadly, no. Even if you're above the skill cap (referred to as the trivial synth level by many crafters, heh) you can still fail synthesis. Presumably even if you had your cooking skill at 100 you could still fail on these, although the odds would be vanishingly small.
people in my ls use this as a money maker with fishers as there main target sometimes they get big orders that pay them over 5k... plus if your in sandy all these items can be bought in sandy and you be paying about 2k
i see you guys have done some talk about it but i got a few question that im asking and im asking somene that does it
when making this bait do you synth stacks of 10-12 and what is the lvl you can start making it at.
im only a lvl 3 cook so i got some ways to go but im working on it i also fish so i see it as a pure profit i can sell them and use them let me know whats up

under game guilds, theres a fishing thing that tells the caps for each fish use it. its very usefull however i can give u my advice in fishing 1-3 port windy/selbina/mhaura - little wormies - bamboo
4-10 windy woods/walls/waters/north and port sandy/ronfaure areas (area H10 in woods windy is where i get moat carp and its close to the AH) - insect balls (or little wormies at lower lv.s)-use bamboo untill u can buy the mith or comp rod.(i used the mith rod just b/c u can get more moat carp with it) *other areas besides the ones listed at this lv. will suck down your bait and rods fast with less gil turn out however there may be other places im not the best fisher in the world, no where near the best
**i would say buy one of the two rods that wont break in windy woods be4 the gear in order to save gil in the long run
10-19 east ronfaure - fly lure - mith or comp. rod *here you are looking for the cheval salmon, it dosen't sell as good as the moat carp but the main point is to get the skill to move on if u don'thave one of the 2 rods listed here and all the fishing gear stick with moat carp untill you do

20-29 bastok market/wadi/davoi/east sarutabaruta /ghelsha outpostjugner forest/la theine plateau/ marshlands/zehrun mines(almost anyplace that has giant catfish with out as many lower lv. fish lke cray fish or copper frog) - frog lure - comp. rod (mith rod will break to fast in most areas at this point) *from here your on your own i hope this has helped any fishers get to a higher lv.
**don't fish a fish up to its cap fish it about 3 lv.s until its cap to gain lv.s faster
****if u have a lot of x-tra gil when u start fishing (50k) i would start off buying all the gear and the mith rod and go right into fishing up moat carp // if u have lots more gil to start with and about 20 weeks to spend fishing (at about 4 hr.'s a day / 100k gil)go right to the boat and just ride the boat and fish all day from here. you can make lv. 100 by staying on the boat but it costs a lot of gil to do since the sea monsters will eat your rods and bait and leave you high and dry

Lvl 29 is really wrong. I starting tring this at lvl 28 and no skill ups what so ever. I belive this cooking skill would be more like lvl 22 or 23 maybe, this obvisouly capped at lvl 28. Try this recipe at lvl 22 and you should be good.
It's confirmed that the level CAP is 29. It may not seem like you get much level when you get close to the cap mark, you'll break a lot of crystals when you are near you cap mark, making it seem like you're not gaining level. But at some point after many breaks and non leveled synths, you'll get a 0.1 at some point.
Also you can start to synth this around level 20, but its safer around 23-4 less breaks.
I got to 29 making these, and kept trying for the next 2 stacks without skillup. So it is right that 29 is the cap.
That is totally wrong!!!! I have level 18 fishing skill and all I fish is carp!! Granted at the lower levels I also caught Cray fish and Carp with little worms but now i just use Insect Paste and all i catch is moat carp in the rivers, and all my experence to level 18 has been carp. Capped at level 11 is a rumor you have never proven yourself. Yes its slower leveling but you will gain skill.If you haven't done it then you shouldn't comment on it. :)
no its not totally wrong. with insect paste you also catch gold carp, tri colored carp, dark bass etc . . . you dont gain anymore lvls after 11 from moat carp EVEN IF YOU CATCH THEM. you gained lvls off of gold, tri, etc depending on where you are fishing. the other fish are capped higher which is why EVEN IF YOU DONT REEL THEM IN you still lvl.
it should be yield 12. each time you get 12 balls of insect paste if successful. yield 1 items does not have a "yield 1" description, so it's a typo on this page.
where it says yield 1, is that those items only make 1 bal of paste coz everytime i see someone synth it, it makes 12, do u do that just by increaseing al the ingredients to 12 of each
I'm sure you need more level than the beginning to start making this Bait. I tried it a long itme ago (Oct.29) and I haven't been able to a make it. It said I'm don't have enough skill to synth it.
From what I've heard, this is the best bait for fishing up Moat Carp. I watched a Japanese guy make these and fish for a LONG time at Windhurst Woods. He told me his fishing skill is 58.
Hint: Go see how much 12 MoatCarps sell for at your local AH... :D :D :D ^^
I do doubt that they fished only carps to get to 58. However.. Almost every place you find moat carps you find Gold Carps as well. They can get skill into the 58 range.
I'm not sure how high you can go with moat carps, every where that I have read says 11, however I've been fishing in Windurst Walls and I'm using a composite rod with insect balls as bait, the only fish I've ever caught was moat carp or "fish too small to catch with this rod", yet my skill is now at 11.4... either there's something else there I'm not catching that's raising my skill, or moat carps go beyond 11... Its really slow gains though.
I have 50 skill in fishing. Moat carp do cap off at 11, but if your moat carping you will still run into tricolored(27 cap) and gold carp(56 cap). So most likely you will skill up off them. If you want to test if moat carp are capped off at 11, goto rabao. Rabao has 2 fish, moat carp and sandfish.
